Context: Jordan Williams is the OSU wrestler (Orange) and Swiderski is the opponent. Jordan Williams was a bit of an underdog and at the final period he was up 7-2 and decided to coast and play it safe. He ended up being taken down making it 7-5 and he escapes making it 8-5. Well, he then began playing if super conservatively and was given 3 stall calls which gave Swiderski 2 points making it 8-7. Swiderski had Williams at the edge of the mat and the time expired so he was yelling at the ref and pissed he didn’t get the 4th stall call to at least tie the match.
The truth is Jordan Williams sustained a shoulder injury just as he went up 7 to 2 and instead of quitting he gutted out the victory the only way he could.
He went off the mat and his coach HELD HIM THERE from leaving. And then told him to go shake his hand. Which the kid did. These are wrestlers. Not juiced cage fighters.
Wrestled for years and was damn good. First thing I’m teaching my son whose about to start, never leave a match in the refs hands. Handle business and move on.
@@TheBullyDisciple Unfortunately, your living up to that handle. I'll take him over you any day. Wrestle correctly in the first two periods and things will go easier in the third.
Really though. Your opponent is not going to help you by taking a while shot. YOU must force the action. Granted, they can't turn around and run away from you, but don't realistically expect for them to actually be looking to score. That's wrestling today.
His coach told him to do that. Wow dude, that was a reaching comment after watching the video. That would be a true statement if he turned around himself and went back to shake the kids hand. But no his coach had to settle his crying arse down and make him go shake his hand. But nice try to typically run clean up
@flawlessfootstomper7004 you're reaching trying to pretend you've ever done anything beyond mediocre. The dude was in a competitive combat sport. Emotions have a tendency to run high. He was upset and still shook the hand of the dude who won.
The loser did a rat act and was told to go shake hands by the two coaches. But sure believe it was emotions that kept him from shaking hands. Sometimes people think they can't lose and when they do they become total losers, bona-fide jerks. Then the coach reminds them of their bound duty to shake hands.
It was a close match , Big 12 finals (national qualifying tournament) the guy in orange (Oklahoma State) was winning by 1 , he was hit with stalling 3 times ( after the 2nd stall call it's 1 point ) they went out of bounds with 1 second left and ( Iowa State , guy who lost ) was mad because he lost and he didn't get another stall call to tie the match to take it into overtime ( you get called for stalling backing straight out of bounds ) . But still came back to shake his opponents hand . They both made it to nationals but it was an important match for seeding at the national tournament
Must be a friend you keep saying prweee leagues. Lol fuccin don’t get down so far and people won’t coast. Tf lmao. You get down and they shut you down it’s actually smart. Lmao. It’s a sport and winning is Ty e emd game
So you're saying cardio is irrelevant and not important. Clown. Conditioning has and will win many matches . Winning the first and running out of bounds for the 2nd and 3rd is for bums. Stalling eventually awards points to the opponent for a reason
Jordan was up 7-2 then got injured. No doubt if not for the injury Jordan would've coasted to an easy win. I've noticed that some athletes will take any win especially if they're being dominated but Jordan was up so much that he could afford to stall. Swiderski was obviously out matched but I do give him credit for the half hearted handshake. I remember Roy Jones being cheated in the Olympics and the Korean fighter knew he had lost but honorably raised Roy's hand acknowledging the true winner. No that's a true athlete!
That stall call would have tied the match…..🤦🏽♂️also 3rd period in college usually is all stalling so I get your process but the reality is stalling calls can be biased that’s just the reality if this was freestyle those remaining seconds are points soooo 🤷🏽♂️time to change folkstyle up a lil more 😂😂😂Diggin the 3 point takedown tho lol
To be fair though three stalls is pretty gross and then the ending was just a continuation of what has already been pointed three times before. Pretty ridiculous but yes can’t leave it to judges
Kinda weird to think that Swiderski ended up with the 8 seed after this tournament and placing at nationals while Williams ended up the 20 seed and went 1-2.
Rules are only a “caveat “ when used by certain athletes. When others use the rules to their advantage, they are praised as “cerebral” or “intelligent “. #passive-aggressive
Thats the game tho/sport etc. Using the rules to your advantage is a strategy regardless of how you think. Harden getting 20 free throws in a game is strategy whether you think so or not. I dont agree with exploitation but gotta respect it @@RcInDaHiz
Bro they got 4th even with Bastida not placing, so I think you have to eat your words now. Show some respect to Brent Metcalf and Kevin Dresser next time
No, depending on the ref, thats another stall call there and a loss in the match. Tactics werent involved , just a scared lil boi , tired and running away
Did he think he got another stalling point or something..? I'm confused?? Cuz clearly he was losing!!! Don't rely on a call from the ref! Go and get a takedown!
I wouldn't call it that. That was another stall call and 2 points depending on the ref. Also, if he was wrestling a penn state guy, hed have been called for it
So let me get this straight, he dominated him early to a 7-2 and played safe , the rest of the match😂 . Look at the crowd of course they wanted the wrestler in black to win on getting 6 points on stalls lol. It wasn't like he was winning or actually earned his score. It was given to him and they think he should win? ???!
lol exactly! Not to mention seconds after scoring the 7th point the guy in black lands on his shoulder and the guy in orange was visibly hurt and even said multiple times " my collar bone"
If you don’t want to rely on the ref, don’t get down on points in the first place. You were beaten, now act like a man shake his hand and move on with your life.
No. He didn't act like a warning plus a point plus a point wasn't valid. Calling another on a hair trigger at the end is a bit too much ref deciding matches. If you have any sustained time stalling...OR that end was a blatant backout...there needs to be a willingness to call what you see, which is different. But the wrestling that worked toward that out of bounds area wasn't running out or backing out of bounds...and he stayed put in his position without backing away at the end. He stayed there for a few seconds. So there was no movement as opposed to backing out...AND wasn't stay still long enough for another call. It's ugly wrestling in the 3rd...TOTALLY agree on that...but it is a win.
@@blakejech6846 That's the thing with the 3 point takedown rule stall calls need to called fast there's zero reason to be backing out of bounds when you can put points on the board
So the comments are adamant that the blonde kid was a better wreslter even though he went down 7-2 early and was jawing at the end for a stall call to tie up. You mean to tell me that they have never drilled for this type of shit? You mean to tell me that he hasnt been told at every level to be proactive and take the decision out of the refs hands? Its admirable that he battled back, but that doesnt entitle you to winning.
This is why college and high school needs the push out rule. You step out of bounds, I get a point. It is much more effective to force players the engage, even when winning.
To be fair you never leave it in the hands of a judge ! I understand he took away his chance to win but Williams did enough to beat him . Even stalling or not , sometimes the best solution is to work harder
What's the big deal? Both guys did what they thought they needed to in order to win. The guys who lost fought hard, got passionate, and shook his opponents hand. Good moment showing sportsmanship.
how the mighty have fallen… pretty sure Swiderski beat Mendez at a Super Match… now he gets bounced out of NCAA’s and the other wins a national championship… something to be said for being humble, working hard, and controlling what you can control
@larenzowesley30 oh stop. B There are 1000s of rich black people. You are acting like it's 1905. None of you even know what hardship is these days. Everyone has it easier now. Ever race can be racist. Blacks are just as racist as whites these days. Acting like every black person has a foot on their neck when you can literally make shitty music and act like human shit yet still be rich and famous. Wonder who that applys to most these days?
I don't know that I saw a sore looser. If I understood the situation, the kid who lost the match understood very well the other guys' strategy, and the adrenaline was pumping hard as he tried not to lose. He's wasn't happy with the outcome but did show great effort and, more importantly, great sportsman ship. Both fighters deserve congratulations in every way for their calculated efforts....
The brother should’ve put it to him if he’d already dogged him 7-2. I remember in high school I had to wrestle a double jointed kid. I beat him like 17-8, but pinning him was impossible.😂. We all became good friends off the mat Paul and Danny Boy @ Durham High!
I think that's the reason he was stalling my dude. He was the underdog... his opponent may have underestimated him at the beginning, but he didn't have the stamina to keep it up. 2 stalling calls and a forgone 3rd stalling call means you didn't have it in you.
I was at this event. Williams was up 7-2 and somewhere between 2nd and 3rd he got injured. Leg I believe and was a major reason he was “coasting “. His mobility was shot compared to the beginning of the match where he gave Iowa St wrestler fits. If Swderski wrestled the 1st like he did there he would’ve majored Williams.
If swiderski had a psu singlet on , theyd have called it. Wasnt good mat awareness , he was just gassed and running away. Depending on the ref and the opponent, thats another stall call and a 1 point loss instead of a win.
Four stalls is absolutely absurd. I've seen some of these refs just throwing stall calls out like confetti it's kind of ridiculous but control yourself always it's better to be a good Sportsman then looking like a jackass. Let the coaches and parents do that for you. RLTW 3/75
So how did he lose the match? Was it his lack of discipline, his inability to make the proper adjustments, his coaches, low wrestling IQ or simply the other dud was better? Asking for a friend. Blessings
