So happy for David Carr, was rooting for him the entire tournament. My friends told me he would lose to O tootle or mesenbrick but they got proved wrong
Carr called for stalling immediately after he escapes from the bottom. Carr called for stalling as he gets takedown. They really didn’t want him winning. Crazy.
Absolutely terrible by the referee. Called one stalling as Carr was let up out of bounds and they both waited for a whistle, and another as Carr got a takedown That dude shouldn't be allowed to ref elementary kids, let alone college 🤣
I am really glad David Carr won. I disagreed with the stalling calls; especially the one that came a fraction of a second before he got the takedown. Glad he won in spite of the refs.
D.C and Burroughs picked up on that. I posted earlier. The 2nd period stalling was not justified. The last 30 seconds you could say he stalled. That was not called there. I like both guys. Actually all 3 counting Keegan. The real winners are the fans that got to see these matches.
before the second stall call, there was FIVE seconds between the ref blowing the whistle to initiate wrestling, and David Carr taking a shot (and then scoring). insane
Another example where the refs are hyper focused on making sure they insert themselves into the finals match. Stalling is not called like that in a normal dual
Husband saying same things. Refs are trying to decide matches. It’s too much. But college stalling is a whole different game. You have to always be heading to the circle.
Wow, He had the hardest Road ever in a tournament! He beat Hamiti, Keegan, and beat a cocky Messenbrink!! Oh, and he beat all the commentators, including Burroughs and DC. They were just rooting against him, but I’m not surprised. Great job Carr!!
Cocky lmao😂 dudes just having fun he was literally down and was wagging his finger. He loves to wrestle win or lose. Just say you don’t like watching people have fun
David Carr beat a worthy opponent and the referee. NCAA needs to rein in the stall warnings and calls. I hate to see great matches decided by the official. That was a great match. Messinbrink brought it but Carr was a little better. Also, gotta know score, time, criteria at all times. Fun to watch.
@@Tlack333 yeah excerpt fox has no offense. Carr got called for stalling seconds. before he got a takedown. Mesenbrinks points came from passive things like escapes and the referee giving him free points.
Pretty sure those insane stalling calls were from the same Ref, which with video review, made the call that Braeden Davis wasn't taken down by Vinny Kilkeary. This guy is a joke and a PSU homer and shouldn't be allowed to ref in college anymore. He literally tried to steal that match from David Carr. He almost stalled David Carr out of the wrestling match.
Nope Angel reffed the next match with Carter and Rocco, Called Rocco for stalling twice in the first and zero calls on Carter in the 3rd. Which agaiin was very biased. @@ricki-bobby
@@WrestlerMichaelI was replying to the comment about the dual match between Davis and Kilkeary. That was Nick Grosso not Rivera but both guys are huge PSU homers
It’s Carrs fault he kept going backwards lol that’s not the refs fault that’s the rules so if you blame anyone blame Carr for making it close. Glad he won tho
@@someguynamedsteve3753the refs were inconsistent as hell. If they were the same every match, there would have been a lot more calls in other matches. It was 2 vs 1 and Carr won anyway.
@@someguynamedsteve3753he got called for stalling when trying to match return while messenbrink was running out of bounds. By definition messenbrink should have been called for stalling in those situations.
Luck. Yeah maybe a little bit but who got the first td in the first seconds of the match and rode for almost the whole first period. If Mitch wanted to win he should have escaped and got takedowns of his own in the first 20 seconds. Carr won get over it
If you've EVER wrestled before (or trained for it), you would know that's not how it works. If anything, the level of conditioning is one giant variable that determines who the better wrestler is. If your guy got tired, that's not "luck", that's on him. He should work harder next time.
First, Penn and Penn State are two different schools. Second, that's just objectively wrong-Penn State gets stall calls. Third, everyone stalls against Penn State because they're all a bunch of babies who are scared to wrestle anyone in a blue and whiet singlet
Mesinbrink got a great seed. Keegan really got screwed as the 1 seed with Carr in his half. Its hard to beat a wrestler 9f Carr's calibar so many times before Carr is going to win one of them. Congratulations to Carr he wrestled an amazing Tournament beating KO and Hamiti *Mesinbrink wrestled a great tourney too but Carr deserved the Natty
Not enough people are talking about the gauntlet Carr went through to get this one. Going through Keegan, Hamiti, and Mitchell is mind boggling. He definitely was on! Stoked for his success
@@luiscruz5556Jokes on you, he just humbled Mesenbrink a little and now it will make Mesenbrink work on the one major flaw in his wrestling. Getting out of the bottom position and never letting someone ride him out like that again. Tougher test would be Keegan O'Toole because O'toole can match his physical strength. Also, I will say one thing, Keegan was really tired at the end of that match with Carr and more tired than I've seen him before but he was up for most of that match too. If Keegan came back to beat the breaks of Carr I wouldn't be surprised. If Mesenbrink came back as fierce on bottom and getting out of ride-outs as he was on top I wouldn't be surprised. He should've looked to do the same to Carr what Carr did to him. Ride-out and make the riding time a non-factor. Now Mesenbrink will have even more motivation to kill Carr next time they meet. From what I've seen, Mesenbrink is an even better Freestyler than Folk.
@@zaynes5094 jokes on me? your post sounds like a whole lot of shoulda-coulda-woulda. the matches played out as they played out. you don't get a free ticket for gassing out. nor do you get a free ticket for "almost" winning a match that was close simply because of stall calls and escape points. carr shot more, carr hit more takedowns, and carr rode him out. those are the facts, like them or not. I have no doubt that mesenbrink has all the tools to be a champion next year, but right here and now, he did not get it done. David Carr did.
Please don’t let DC and Burroughs ref these brothers matches!! The whole time talking about how good messenbrink is, even after he lost! Can Carr get some love? 🤡
It's probably because Messenbrink is a red-shirt freshman and wrestled very well against someone of Carr's caliber. I saw it as them being really hyped about what's to come from him.
My friend always says minority wrestlers have to do twice as much. Never really paid attention. Carr gets 2 take down gets hit for stalling 4 times. Dating fix runs stalls whole match gets 1 stalling point. Then later hidlay does the same thing, and doesn't hit. Now I'm seeing what you're saying.
I don’t want to start a debate. Yes there is truth to what you have heard. Having had it done to me, and black athletes I’ve coached. How many times have you seen a black athlete celebrate a win and have their sportsmanship questioned. Here is one. How many times have you seen a successful black wrestler described at “he is so athletic” rather than a good smart wrestler.
Yes like Carter and Aaron and Gable. They know they have to dominate their opponents, cause if it's close there's a possibility some refs will sabotage their victory. Sad but true.
They were trying to rob him of this title. Other than the push out, which was a warning all those other stalls were based on the refs preferring messenbrinks style. Care did more than other matches that were stalled for the full first and second period. Carr out wrestled him, messenbrink should’ve been down 4 pts in this match, the frustration from the stall calls allowed messenbrink to score. I don’t care if messenbrink fake shots aren’t stalling.
Im not normally critical of JB but why was so biased agianst Carr. He outwrestled MM and the refs tried to give MM the match. Carr had to beat MM and the refs.
Mitch shouldn’t feel like he did that much in this match. He really only scored 5 points, 3 by escapes and 3 by one takedown. The other three points were given to him by the refs, only 1 of which was probably warranted. The other 2 were totally unnecessary. Carr deserved to win this match. He had 2 takedowns and over 2 minutes of riding time. That is dominance in my book.
David Carr won his 2nd NCAA title when he beat O'Toole in the semis. Didn't think anyone could ever beat O'Toole at 165. Messinbrink showed up for the finals but Carr kicked his ass since the stalling calls and two points against him were BS. But Messinbrink does have a good future in front of him. His biggest mistake this year was telling the press "nobody can keep up with me 7 minutes." Big mistake for the young freshman. He could have never beat O'Toole like Carr did. Carr won it all
Carr won, fairly and with heart. Messnebrink learned something and will be back. Stalling has been a problem for years in wrestling and nearly cost the sport the Olympic event. However, the NCAA stalling rules are strange. Since the takedown is now 3 points, why not add a point for pushouts. It would solve several problems. NCAA and US international wrestling is exciting again!
That last stall call didn’t even make sense what did they want Carr to turn him while they were both standing? He was actively trying to get him back to the mat
Terrible second stall call on Carr. Ref's had an off night all around. The timing on the challenges was irresponsible. I get it, you want to get it correct, but damn you kill momentum.
He definitely did. I was watching it live, and it wasn't until I heard DC bring up that possibility did it click. I'm yelling at my screen like why did he just stop wrestling with 23 seconds left?!?! He let Carr off the hook...then DC's comment brought it into perspective. Messenbrink clearly wasn't tired. Congratulations to Carr though. He wrestled a great tournament.
@@abespeaks6718oh ya 100% I was more mad about carr having 3 stalling calls than realize mesenbrink lost because he didn’t know the score. The oddest and also most heartbreaking way to lose a ncaa championship
Can't believe Mesenbtink didn't know the score lmao. He had Carr absolutely gassed at the end and could have stolen that from him just like Carr did to Keegan.
Officiating is horrible in this match, basically if a PSU wrestler is behind getting taken down it's just automatic stalling on the guy beating them. Then the commentary crew ignoring the champion to heap praise on the officiating aided runner up, really silly stuff. A one team sport isn't healthy for the sport, not sure why anyone covering college wrestling tries to make that a thing so hard.
@@parkerthompson3447 you don’t have to ride the outside to be a boring non aggressive wrestler. Look at Bartlett and Davis. I’ve seen enough to know which school gets calls. Go back and watch Hidlay/Nolf 2019 or Valencia/Hall 2017. All 3 td’s in this match were off Carr shots.
Did anyone else notice how much trouble Carr was having with his headgear? Kept adjusting it during the match and I seemed to even cause him to get called for stalling at one point. I cannot understand how you can make it to the ncaa championships and not have your headgear completely dialed
That second stalling in the 2nd period was bs. I am glad D.C was announcing. They called him for stalling as he was shooting. So was the one at the beginning of the 3rd. Carr was working to ride. For those saying only one because he stalled, what match were you watching. Carr got two takedowns, and controlled him on top. ( I am a fan of good wrestling and Penn State, but those hating on Carr are off base) Two points Mitch should not have gotten for stalling. Oddly enough that last 30 seconds Carr did not get hit for stalling. That is when he was defending the takedown, but stalling would have been warranted. Great match. The was experience over youth.
Wouldn’t doubt if Mesenbrink goes undefeated for the rest of his college career. So close to Cael’s career undefeated record. Ironically, if the ref hadn’t given Carr the stalling point, he would have been up by 1 on the scoreboard and Mesenbrink would have gone for the takedown in the end instead of being confused. Great job by Carr. Mesenbrink’s last great challenge.
You act like just because he goes for a takedown that means he would get it? I’m pretty sure he went for several takedowns and didn’t get them during the match. 🤡
He should have known he was down with riding time. No one to blame but himself. Refs tried their best to give him the match anyways, don't feel bad in the slightest
The stall calls were excessive early in match. All the comments about crazy stalling by car is ridiculous. He used the mat and moved. Mesenbrink pushed but car moved really well and never gave him a good opening for a shot. Car rode him really tough and the attempts were legit to not get stall calls. Great match and big mistake by Penn state in not sprinting in end, not realizing he was down. I have seen way more backing up and backing out not get stall calls. Personally, push out rule would take away more of the subjective and really help USA internationally for the transition.
Looks like the refs still haven't changed with their shall we say "selective" use of the stall call to keep the golden boys in matches. Normally, I would chalk it up to a "bad call", but I've been around too long and seen it happen too much.
I wrestled my senior year and that’s all and I’ve watched some ncaa wrestling with actual stalling. They seemed active the entire match, was he using the clock to his advantage yea but sheesh he wasn’t just standing around tired.
Are refs allowed to bet on matches???? Some really questionable stuff by the refs in this one. You could tell the ref wanted to hit Carr with the last stalling and go straight to the bank.
@joegreen9629 Well since the NCAA came out and said, that was a takedown in the Braeden Davis and Vinny Kilkeary won that match and Ref’s need to call it as such. I don’t think I’m the one that needs to learn the rules. And if it wasn’t home Refing how do you explain Ayala not getting any stalling calls in his finals match? Breakdown…Carr shot 3 times in the first and got 1 takedown. Mitchell only took 1 shot in the entire 1st period and that was with 1 second left in the 1st , plus he gave up a ton of ridding time. 2nd period Carr took 3 shots and got 1 takedown. Mitchell took 2 shots zero takedowns. Third period Mitchell took 4 shots with 1 takedown and Carr took 3 shots. Carr took more offensive attacks in the match than Mitchell. Someone for sure needs to learn the rules. And someone should for sure go back to high school.
So far, I am extremely disappointed at the refs in these finals. They suck. They twice favored a guy that lost. If wrestlers want to have a privilege in their matches, they have to wrestle for the conference that have that advantage.
rumors are o'toole wants to bump up to 174, but will wrestle wherever it helps missouri most. i also heard that levi haines wants to move up which would make messenbrink have to go to 157 (if haines wins the spot), so there's a good chance they aren't even in the same weight class and possibly 2 weight classes apart next year.
