The key concepts that form the postulates of socialist thought are completely different than those that make up progressive thought. This is why progressives and socialists don’t see eye to eye even though they may support similar policies. Progressivism is a form of reformism (they fundamentally like capitalism but think it needs to be fixed to be more fair) socialism is revolutionary ( socialists believe that capitalism should be abolished and replaced with a system that discourages class distinction) lumping them together is a sign that you can’t fundamentally distinguish between the two to begin with.
