Considering how much I've studied the topic of polygamy, I have a very strong suspicion that this flaming sword event never happened. In fact, this narrative of an angel with a sword may have been hijacked from something Hyrum said before he was murdered. He referenced something about an angel with a sword in a discourse or conversation. Michelle Stone's "132 Problems" podcast #14 deals specifically with the topic of the flaming sword. The reason I haven't dove into the topic further is because I strongly believe monogamy is the way of heaven and I haven't felt the need to dive even deeper than I already have.

"The gospel" is true, but members rarely question whether the gospel doctrines in the church have been changed. In 2 Nephi 28, it prophesies of "false doctrine" from false servants. Those false doctrines are the changing or twisting of the gospel of Christ. IMO, this has been and is happening in the LDS church today.

@@ZionMedia_ The foundation, as has been repeated many times in various videos, is very simple. It's found in 2 Nephi 31/32 and in 3 Nephi. Faith, repentance, baptism of water and fire. That's the foundation we build upon. Now, what constitutes Christ's "doctrine" through the eternities could probably fill every library on this earth and many others. :)

Nope. He made it & was re-baptized.

@@ZionMedia_ According to wikipedia he came back to Missouri and got rebaptized but because of health reasons never made it out to Salt Lake and died in 1850.

I think Oliver was a little upset that Joseph was paying more attention to people like John Bennett, William Law, and his other scribes and just felt a little betrayed because he had spent so much time with him.

Also Oliver's brother-in law was Brigham's brother so there was maybe some kinship there that made him want to return.

It is true, I left the LDS religion so that I could keep my covenants to be obedient to the Lord. I didn't have a faith crisis, I had a church crisis. My baptismal covenants, as outlined in Mosiah 18, are with God, not a church, not with man, not with a religion. The church slowly and methodically changed (or even directly contradicted) many of the doctrines as taught in the BoM and by Joseph Smith.

@@KeithSeely Nope. The church is the vehicle that God uses to administer authoritative ordinances necessary for salvation. Individuals can accept the covenants that go along with these ordinances and keep them or decide not to.

There is a fine line between following God and following a prophet/man. A true servant of God doesn't demand adherence to his words, but allows God to demand only those which can be affirmed by the spirit of God. Many prophets seek to maintain power and influence by virtue of the priesthood which thing ought not to be done. They speak with their lips godly things, but they have in reality shut up the kingdom of heaven for their adherents by speaking from their own heart in lies and deceit. We must be affirming a sustained prophet's words with the scriptures, and anything that doesn't align must be disposed or corrected. We will be doomed if we take it all hook, line and sinker. Imagine having prophets and the priesthood, but God keeps telling you that you aren't hearing his voice and that you need to repent of your religious iniquities. How would that make you feel? Would you tell God his judgement is incorrect and plead innocent, or would you humbly submit to God's chastening and wrestle with him to figure out what needs to be sorted out and purified? This is a repentance that has yet to take place in the Lord's Holy Church today. The reformation cannot be passed, but must be enduring until Christianity reaches perfection through the sanctification of the spirit and the redemption of Zion is fulfilled.

Well he doesn’t go to church anymore. But he does believe in the restoration and Joseph and belives it will be restored to its fullness so he’s waiting till that happens and practicing alone. I can tell you his family does more scripture study and worship weekly than 90% of Saints….hes a very special guy.

Consider D&C 117:16 where it was actually the Kirkland era that pollutions entered into the house of the Lord. Has the Lord's due time actually occurred, or might that be yet in the future? Consider also D&C 124 from during the Nauvoo era on which the warning was given of their own works bringing curses upon the church and that all work done in scattered across the world in stakes not appointed by God were rejected. Has the church ever produced any revelation on any stake of Zion since Nauvoo? Has God ordained every stake of the COJCOLDS? I think we really need to consider that there may be temple ordinances done that fulfill this warning. Utah was touted as Zion, but in reality, could it be possible that hymn #30 "Come, Come Ye Saints fulfills the warning of 2 Nephi 28:21? There is so much to discuss and to think about. May God direct our hearts in being open and receiving his word in totality.

LOL... so many things I could say. I'll honestly pray for you. My relationship with God is between me and Him. The church thinks they must have an elevated position in that relationship, which they never should have had in the first place. I wish you well in your journey. BTW, I applaud this channel for being willing to ask questions. We don't have to agree, but at least concerns can be shared and voices heard. If we truly believe that the HG can witness the truth of ALL things, then we have no need to worry about how apostate the guests may be. :)

@@Kalenwilliams1393 You think Zion is building up a church. Yes, you keep doing your part, I'll do mine. Maybe, just maybe, we have very different roles at this time in the history of the world. FWIW, I invite people to take EVERYTHING I say to God and insistent that nobody listens to anything I say unless the Spirit touches their heart. That's very different than the false LDS teaching that the "prophet can never lead you astray." That's an anti-Christian teaching and the top leadership knows it. Go study JST Mark 9 if you want to know what Jesus taught.
