Good to hear you guys talking about mental health problems, such as PTSD, in relation to defense service. The sad reality is that more armed-servicemen die from suicide after returning home, than the amount who die in conflict. This might be a great topic to delve into more deeply in a future podcast, and perhaps introduce a guest to your podcast, such as a psychological specialist in the area of trauma related mental illness. Also, just for interest sake, there is a great book called 'the Body Keeps the Score' by one of the leading experts in PTSD, Dr Bessel van der Kolk, that you guys might get a lot out of reading.

I feel you Mat, I often text my friends who are all over the world to check up on them .It is very one sided. I could let a year go by and they would never check in on me. You are definitely the type of friend I want. I am also with you on the surgery. I completely tore my Achilles climbing, I want it fixed. Its just a couple months of inconvenience to have my quality of life back, and Josh is ten years younger than me.

Not sure if all services are uniform but I (Air Force member) was deployed early 2020 and the team we had that forwarded to Al-Asad Air Base during the attack went to Germany to decompress for a week but the rest of us flew straight home and were with out families within 24hrs. Looking back, after being extended an extra 2 months I definitely wish we could've had more time in-between to decompress. Josh touched on it the 2nd episode I think but I do miss deployment sometimes and wish I was back there with my buds, deployed life has a certain bliss to it.

I'm a firefighter and one of the reasons I started CrossFit was because of my career. I've been training CrossFit for several years, I started around 2011, I went to CrossFit level one course and coached classes for a few years. Crossfit has this stigma in the fire service for causing injuries, and firefighters will bad mouth CrossFit. IMO most entry-level physical fitness tests are essentially CrossFit workouts, it's a series of functional firefighting events for time. Another thing I hear in the fire service is, you shouldn't work out to failure while on shift. I kinda agree with that, but if you never push yourself to extreme fatigue during a workout or training, how are you going to be able to do it when it counts? Another thing I have discovered is that you have to put your bunker gear on, full PPE on-air, and get acclimated to the gear. I don't care how good you are at working out you have to get used to carrying the extra gear around and get used to the heat of being in the gear (especially here in Texas). Just my 2 cents.... Really enjoying the podcast
