Mat is not coming back. I would have selfishly loved to see him for one more year but he doesn’t have anything left to prove it would just be extending his dominance. Hopefully they are getting into the kid stage and he is not going to sacrifice that to come back again. He probably could compromise and juggle both and still win but that’s not what he does. Mat has been an inspiration for me in life. I wouldn’t follow his programming if you paid me. His consistency of character, how he approaches challenges is so consistent and pure and his ability to rise above the best in the world with his approach is astounding. I hope you keep us in on your future endeavors, especially juggling kids.

I always smile when Mat's heritage (his parents are Canadian) comes through in his pronunciation of certain landmark words, or choices of idioms.

I had a 1998 Honda Passport with almost 300k miles. Sold it not that long ago and it's my understanding that the engine is still running like new. One of the best vehicles I've ever owned.

I’ve been waiting for the episode following the retirement announcement. I’m super bummed I’ll never see him at the games in person, but good for him for going out on top. Congrats! 🐐

Average NFL Referee Salary - $205K/year (for 16 games) MLB Ump Salary Range - $110K-432K/year NBA Referee - Average $3500/game (most senior refs bring down $500K/year) WNBA Referee - Can make up to $180K/year NHL Referee - $165,000 - $360,000/year Crossfit Judge - volunteer who gets their lunch taken care of All of these professional officials have spent hundred if not thousands of hours studying their game. They have mandatory continuing education hours every year and they have a mandatory number of years spent officiating at lower levels of the sport. And, they are officiating the the same game every time. (yes, I know there are minor rule changes each year in major sports) Even with all of this; years of experience with just that sport, countless hours of class work, hundreds of thousands of dollars in pay, they still make mistakes every single game. This is one of the largest issues with crossfit as a sport. Those officiating it are learning the game (the individual workout, because each workout has its own movements and nuance) they day before or the morning of the event. Each workout has its own set of rules and standards, each new workout is like a whole new game the judge needs to know. And, they are not paid (maybe at the games level, but regionals are working with volunteers. They don't even get their travel costs paid for). To get professional level referees that can (and should) be held to a professional standard requires money, education, and time. The way the situations talked about were handled by the CF Games was bullshit. They have someone out there who (based on the accounts) was making a mistake. The CF Games are the ones that put the judge out there, the mistakes made fall on them and they should have a way to own and resolve those mistakes. Having your judges back is great, but realizing how fallible they are is something that should be accounted for.

I love the fact that no-one knows Mat! He is not coming back, what else does he need to prove? He is the top GOAT in Crossfit and I dont think anyone will ever beat 5 years in a row, EVER!

Gotta hammer these questions that may or may not have been asked like Why was Dave annoyed Mat throttled back to win the games with Tia, that moment slipped away. Or the drama with Good Dudes coffee. Sevan you gotta risk being annoying to harp on the questions because when the guys get amped up they fall into the most interesting stuff. Just my thoughts, one of the best new podcast

Matt, when you have multiple kids, you'll rethink the idea that family doesn't require sacrifice. I love my girls and wouldn't trade anything for them, but sacrifice happens for them all the time.

Nike, Rogue, and CrossFit could offer Mat a big bonus to go for a 6th. He clearly loves money (he kinda talks about it a lot) so I think that's the only scenario where he would ever come back.
