In yugioh there are no cost like mana which is you can play whenever you like except normal summon and trap cards Yeah drawing cards and search effects are broken in yugioh coz they can set a board in a single turn most of a time a single card can build a end board with lots of negates

@@mazeradevere8352 There is a cost in yugioh though, I dunno why people keep saying this. There's no *universal* cost, sure, but e.g. it really hard to think of a special summon monster without some kind of specific summoning requirements. Of course some cards are costless and can be activated at any time, but there are many, many cards where this is not the case. Drawing and searching are strong in any game, not just yugioh.

As someone who plays magic and yugioh regularly it was a blast to see this video, also Sam is so clueless about mana 😂. Also as someone who actually regularly plays city of traitors it’s difficult to put into words how strong a land that taps for two is. Tempo is everything in magic, and card advantage is a lot less important. As an example, there’s a very popular magic card called “ad nauseum”, that can basically allow you to draw upwards of 15-20 cards instantly. It costs 5 mana. Being able to cast that card a turn earlier by having one more mana can very easily be the difference between your opponent having the “negate” or not. If you play many cards that allow you to get “fast mana”, like city of traitors, you can more consistently cast these massive payoffs as early into the game as possible. Cards like Thalia exist to slow down the “combo decks” and want to chip down life totals instead of building up to a combo.
@robertbauerle5592
@robertbauerle5592 Год назад
I want to go off on a bit of a side tangent here as well. Notice the “negate” he showed on screen when they were talking about song of creation. It costs 2 mana. Unlike in yugioh, using negates in magic costs tempo, or more than just one card out of your hand in resources (like the card called force of will, requiring the use of itself plus another card in your hand to be cast for 0 mana). In yugioh, if you think your opponent has it, you usually have to run your face into the card. Sometimes there are alternate lines to play around an ash or nibiru, but usually it boils down to do they have the answer? If no, you win. If yes, do you have the answer for their answer if yes, you win, if not, you lose. In magic, because the answers cost mana or cards, you can actually wait for more opportune moments to cast your “combo”. You can play some value pieces or just go to combat and attack until they’re forced to use the mana on removal and then you can combo MP2, etc. Yugioh feels like it’s missing that kind of magic. You can’t play a backrow deck and not set your hand in fear of heavy storm because you’ll lose to the combo deck playing through your measly one or two negates. Or they’ll have duster and win anyway. Or your playing master duel and get red rebooted and lose. I love yugioh, but I really think that the game needs to slow down so that tempo can become at least slightly relevant, or decks need to speed up to the point of tear or lab, where the controls decks need to be able to play on turn 0. However I think if that is the case, mulligans need to be introduced into the game. Right now the draw step might as well not matter, your opponent usually wins the game with their combo before you can draw the ash blossom as your 6th opening card. If you were allowed to mulligan at least once going second it would feel monumentally less backbreaking to see an opener with no hand traps or interaction of any kind.

@@robertbauerle5592 Also, the vast majority of spells in mtg that 'negate' don't stay on the field, attack and defend (they go to the graveyard immediately) and don't get the opportunity to 'negate' once per turn (for free). In mtg, you can completely exhaust the counter spells the opponent uses through threat density and attrition. Very, very few counter spells in mtg counter activated effects, so once in play/used, the opponent has to find another answer besides negating. There's no threat of omni-negates and mana requirements make it so there are *big* decisions that can leave you not being able to respond unlike in yugioh where everything is free and it doesn't matter. You can always respond with free things and the decisions that matter are *when* you do something and not *if* you can for the most part. A perfect example of a card that does this is *Gigadrowse* . With its *Replicate* ability making it a nightmare for decks that want to respond to everything at any time. The last card shown, Thalia is excellent in aggro decks that are just playing/creating multiple creatures a turn while slowing down combo, control, aggro-control, and any other decks that rely on non-creature cards and their ability to interact fast enough. It gets better when you can protect Thalia as well as attack and deploy.
@wickederebus
@wickederebus 9 месяцев назад
@robertbauerle5592 hear me out. Instead of slowing the game down, we just speed it up by designing cards to allow the turn 2 player to also play on turn 1. Labyrinth for example has its Furniture trio which set a trap from deck (at the cost of a secondary discard) or let you activate a trap the turn it was set. Then Lab also has Arias Butler now, and she also let's Labyrinth play on the opponent's first turn. Tearlaments had Havnis and TearKash to use during either main phase at quick effect speed. Vanquish Soul has HG Pluton to summon on the opponent's turn. . . Bystials can play on the opponent's turn if they commit a monster to the board. Yugioh is getting there, but slowly.
@robertbauerle5592
@robertbauerle5592 9 месяцев назад
@@wickederebus I never said the game should be slowed down to be fair. Tear is one of my favorite archtypes of all time and that deck is the fastest deck in the game's history, being able to nearly "full combo" on an opponent's turn 1. I also do like labrynth for the same reason, it being a control deck that has engine that can play faster than combo decks. Bystials I don't really count since you're not really playing engine, they're just hand traps with the upside of a body. That'd be like saying kaiju's are engine since they're part of an archtype. I don't have enough experience with VS to give a good take on that, since I mostly play master duel and they haven't been added yet. Fire kings can do similar things, tho they lack enough viable main deck engine to be able to consistently play like that (hoping for more support even tho we probly won't get it).

I like what you said about not expecting people to have all the context to judge a card. Like all the yugioh channels doing this are pulling out Dragoon then saying it's bad, when it's obviously not a bad card. It's just in the context of the meta, it doesn't see that much play right now...
@IamGrimalkin
@IamGrimalkin Год назад
I feel like these videos should show no mana cost, no non-generic summoning conditions. Something like force of will (I believe?) or Dinowrestler Pankrotops rather than Dragoon or this video. Also, the whole Dragoon=bad thing is a bit outdated with Branded in the meta anyway. Sure, it's still not that well-played now, but it will probably be mandatory in Branded when Mirrorjade is banned.

One thing I really dislike about Staple or Stinker is that they dont rate cards historically. The Clackbrigde Troll was a standard staple. Ofc its not good enough for other formats but it was played enough in a competitive format that it doesnt warrant the term "Stinker".
@xCorvus7x
@xCorvus7x Год назад
These terms are just ripe for misunderstanding, too. A card can be good generically but also only if you build a deck around it. It's perfectly plausible for such a specific deck to be among the better ones in a given format. A staple, however, is only a generically good card, not a card that is only good in the right deck. Stinkers, on the other hand, are not cards that can only be found in a few different decks (in which case they could still see much play if many people play those decks) but cards that aren't good for anything and see barely any play at all. Edit: it's a false dichotomy.

Song of creation my first thought is : what if you draw a land? Like, of course if everything works out the way you want you end up drawing a ton of cards, ramping and doing all sort of cool things. But you could also play this, discard your hand, draw a land next turn and now you have no turn. It puts you in a topdeck situation with about 30% chance to fail to do anything. And that's if the opponent doesn't have enchant removal cause then you just played 4mana one with nothing. (not exactly cause it lets you immediately ramp and if you play it later it still potentially does some stuff but it's close enough).
@Laezar1
@Laezar1 4 месяца назад
Also I think city of traitors being strong is clearer if you realize you can activate it before playing a land, so you get at least 4 mana out of it, which is 2 more than what you'd get from another land and that's the cost of playing a typical ramp card that fetches a land. Not that you'd want to do that with that card it'd be kinda weird but it shows that at baseline you at least get the value of the land you lose. So it's more like, if you can't do better than that with the mana what are you doing with your deck?
@Otzkar
@Otzkar Год назад
Can we talk about how the second card would also suck in yugioh? On the turn you activate it, it does nothing. Then after an entire turn it becomes an upstart goblin and goes +0. You would have to wait 2 entire turns and hope that this card stays faceup for it to gain any advantage
