Talked to him in Boise after the concert and told him that I thought he did this song the best of all the people they've had. More heart, more emotion, more genuine feelings. He kept his eyes closed almost all the way through the song. When I told him that, he put his head down, thumped his chest and thanked me. Told me it is one of his favorite songs both to sing and play. Great job.

I never bought a Journey album in the 80's so I never heard Mother Father or Still they ride until a month ago! I am 53! That is a lot of time to hear these songs LOL Anyway I listened to Deen sing these 2 songs over and over for 2 weeks LOL He does such a great job!

I’m a huge Deen fan…and yes his vocals are A MAZING. This is his weakest performance singing that I have seen…so that should tell you something. There are way better videos of him absolutely killing it with zero vocal fatigue or just a little under the weather. Seen at his best may even be better than Steve Perry..mainly for the warmth in his voice even in his higher range. Steve P hit ALL the notes but in his higher range often sounded a bit less musical.

This song is nothing but high vocal parts,but when he does the super high parts my ears & throat hurt at times.I love how he phrases the songs title words as "hey,motha,fatha,sista" section. As a drummer myself since the age of 7,it's not an easy task to both play drums + do vocals at the same time.Not many can do both together as well as Deen.

The lack of spotlight on Arnel at the end was really creative. The camera angles were perfect and it was almost as good as than being there. Almost... Nothing really beats being there.

Deen has a GREAT voice, and he could easily take over as Journey's lead vocalist. He probably likes the idea of just "sitting back and relaxing" while playing drums. To his credit though, Arnel has been Journey's lead vocalist longer than anyone else and Steve Perry is just an afterthought now. Of course, Neal has the final word on it all.

That's what I thought too. Seriously? Without Steve perry, Journey would have disappeared off the map after their fourth album. That's the whole reason Herbie Hancock brought him in the first place. The weird sort of fusion sound of their first few albums wasn't really cutting it. And I'm still mad at Neil for the way he cut Steve Perry out because he needed hip surgery. Neil runs that band like an iron fist. Just look at the current troubles they're having now.🤡 @@selenesimonson9930

Dean has the soul in his voice like Steve did. No disrespect to Arnel, but Dean as lead vocal would make the songs have that soul back in them.

They don`t need Arnel, the guy is bog average. If you want a Steve Perry sound a like, Deen is 9/10, Arnel is about 6/10.

He sounds great. I’m pretty sure the other keyboard player dude used to do it, but he was pitchy af. Parts of it were exceptional. Other parts, not so much.
