Jon Caine once said that Steve Perry bleeds a little every time he sings. When you watch this video, you can see it. It's like he's reliving the event the song was written about. It must have been exhausting to put that much of yourself into every performance night after night. No wonder he was burned out. What an Amazing vocalist he is. This is a timeless singer. Our grandchildren and their children will keep listening to him because some wise dude will have heard Steve from his Dad or uncle and will show them. Some singers sing, others CONVEY and INTERPRET songs and Steve was a craftsman of singing, he never sang a verse the same, was constantly creating within the same notes. I have heard almost every version there is of this song and HE DOES IT TIME AND TIME AGAIN. Simply unbeatable. Every song is a freaking singing masterclass. Damn!
I am 49 years old, and i made and heard a lot good and bad Music , seen a lot off good and bad Musicians , i have seen the Great Bands in the 70 is , and someday i have heard Journey the first time , when i meet my Girlfriend for the very first Time , she had this Record and played it the whole Night thru , i tell you , everytime i hear this Wonderfull Song i start Crying .
Definitely love this version the best of all-as if the intervening years between Houston and here have given him the ability to evoke even more emotion. Layers of feeling that he unwraps like an onion-only it is life experiences that he is peeling off for us to see. Amazing!

If not for the perfection of Perry .which u say is ego,Journey would have not climbed to the top of the charts and became one of the greatest rock bands ever ..all on the voice of Steve perry.Arnel 20 yrs from now will be not remembered but Steve Perry will be .They are not doing fine !!
