Joysticks (1983) is one of the first video game movies ever. Sure, it's about an arcade, but it's mostly about the awful slobs that run the arcade. Anything video game related just proves how much the writers didn't know about games. Though, it's great to see Joe Don Baker.

I was a teenager/young adult during the "golden age of the arcades" in the early 80's, I can tell you for fact there were no naked boobs in the arcade.

Justin is wrong the truck that they try to steal the arcade machines does have a lift gate bits out of frame you can see it under the truck as they pull in the driveway of the Rutter house. Not that I would expect Justin Silverman to know his way around a box truck. lol

Arcades were a great place to meet people and socialize. You could also play some great games there. Actually, it beat the hell out of console gaming. But being as I was born in 1970 I slid from one to the other. But I still had some great times at my local arcades.

There is a Tetris arcade game that uses giant joysticks similar to the ones in the movie. I do not know if it existed at the time of filming.

To be honest at the time people didn't have much entertainment beside sex and many arcades were in fact crime dens. So it wasn't that far from truth, even if slightly exaggerated.

James, you're a Rocky fan. Remeber the beginning of Rocky III? Paulie goes into a Philly arcade full in a seedy part of town, pretty much a warehouse with arcade games and it was all teens smoking and hanging out. That's what it was really like in 1982.

Gen-X factoid here: Arcades of the late 70s/Early80s were not really for children. Arcades of the era evolved from pool halls/pinball joints. Most allowed smoking, some served alcohol. They were very much part of the Teen/young adult social dynamic. After the games crash they evolved into the family friendly venues that most remember from the 80s/90s...this movie is a nostalgic snapshot of that time.

I was 10 in 1981 and yes all people from all walks of life were playing video games. Even men in business suits and young kids at age 5 and 6 years old. Mom's and Dad's played them as well. Damn I wish I had a time machine to go back to a 1980's or late 70's arcade.

I could also see them doing "Dazed and Confused," the "Fist of the North Star" OVA, and probably one or both of the two "Escape From" films. Also, possibly the "Street Fighter II" OVA. Maybe because they did the LA film (and the fact that this is AVGN).

you can slide that little metal piece backwards thats close to the inner circle on the disc reader and hold the ps3 at an angle or lift it up and put pressure on the sliding top to try to read discs on the ps3

I'm not sure if this lastpass thing is entirely convenient. Sure, it helps you out with automating passwords, but... What if someone takes your phone? They have basically immediate access to your stuff, don't they?

It's kind of funny. The bad idea is to set all your passwords as the same. The good idea is to have an account with a single password that knows all your passwords.

I really miss nudity in movies. People talk about other's reactions to modern movies because we're so desensitized to gore and pornography, but that's just plain wrong. Go watch some of the best from the early to mid eighties and you'll know just how wrong that assumption is. Today's movies are soft. Just like today's audiences.

That isn't because today's audience is soft. Look at Game of Thrones. It is because people today can see nudity and sex scenes any time they want. So no one is going to pay to watch a bad movie for 2 hours just for brief glimpses of boobs.

I just recently watched this movie by waiting for Netflix to mail me the disc. So it must have had an actual release at some point. It took forever for them to send it to me so it was probably the copy the had and I'm the only idiot that would go to that much trouble to see it.

I just got done watching the movie.. it's not bad. It isn't great, and it's pretty formulaic, but it manages to avoid falling into complete crappiness. And if you are a fan of 80's breasts, this movie is a loving tribute to breast, both covered and uncovered.

Pretty sure I know what Arcades were like... You ever Been to those Wierd laser tag places where it has that distinct type of weirdo, the same ppl who went to see suicide squad and think Hackeysack is still an acceptable way to pass the time.
