(JTVFX) Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - The Probe (Recreation) 

I appreciate everyone's comments on the video. This project was the biggest undertaking for me yet, taking almost four months of work to create. I basically started it right after my Star Trek III "Returning to Spacedock" video back in April. The "Mars Battle" scene took almost half that time just to conceptualize. The element I'm most proud of is the music leading to the battle, that was the part I was worried about the most. While listening to various tracks from the movie that I could use, I found "The Whaler" track seemed to fit so perfectly for the build up to the battle I just had to use it. Here is a list of all the ships that participated in the "Mars Battle" scene. The ship classes/names and registry: Constellation Class: USS Constellation NCC-1974 Akula Class: USS Apollo NCC-1355 Constant Class (Akula like ship with both nacelles on bottom): USS Jupp NCC-1911 Miranda Class: USS Oberon NCC-1806 Akyazi Class: USS Akyazi NCC-1010 Oberth Class: USS Shepard NCC-631 Akula Type 2 (no bottom nacelle): USS Arafat NCC-802 Okinawa Class: USS Torishima NCC-304 Bonus: The constitution inside spacedock is USS Intrepid NCC-1730 based on the movies script. Miranda inside spacedock I went with USS Lantree NCC-1837. Enjoy!

This might be my favorite Star Trek movie. It totally embodies the mantra: Never let plot get in the way of storytelling. Lovely CGI, by the way ❤️

Love how the Oberth class is using 2260's style phasers!

I always loved Madge Sinclair's last repetition of "come in... please" with that hint of extra desperation at how quickly the Saratoga had found itself helpless.

When i saw the fleet i just felt pure joy, I felt like i was watching first contact once more, that joy when the Enterprise just swoops in and saves the day, I'm so happy people are still taking such good care for the star trek Fandom

Truly loved the scale of the MARS line of ships in comparison to the Probe. Something the movie really needed to give the probe mass and intimidation.

The attention to detail with the Yorktown is beautiful. The “Silver/new bridge, the altered red alert sound, all linking to this ship being the A, I see what you did! 👍🏼

You reign supreme in the TOS Movie era, you even got the BRIDGES... you added these really awesome touches... the scope of the size of the Probe itself... then looking back at the movie footage, you gave this whole sequence brand new life. BRAVO!

5:12 - Well at least Starfleet learnt something from V'Ger's incursion into the solar system, keep some damn ships near your core systens! Something they apparently forgot when the Borg came knocking though! Great video, and the CG work is really good. Nice work, Jason.

Only thing left is to do the aftermath of the probe passing back through the system restoring power like it did on Earth and Spacedock, but this brought a lot of joy, for sure!

Spectacular! I love the inclusion of the Yorktown with the correct bridge from the end of the movie, plus the observation deck at the front of the saucer. :)

Dude i love this!!! The fleet was awesome and showing the Yorktown was brilliant. I love the what if scene at the end showing the Enterprise instead of the bird of prey. Maybe you could do a what if scene of the Enterprise doing time warp.

What a beautiful labor of love this work is to the great TMP-era Trek films! I loved the effort at building a story - where Starfleet slowly wakes up to the threat from the Probe, and all the familiar starships (complete with tactical displays!) brought out to defend Earth. Also appreciate the Easter Egg at the end hinting at a slightly more heroic end for the original E, and its replacement, powerless somewhere in Earth's solar system.

That was awesome. And I will admit to a wee 'yes!!' moment at the end when the good ship Enterprise swooped in to save the day.

That was cool how you swapped the bird of prey for 1701.

I've seen this film probably 100 times but this is the first time the probe actually frightened me. Well done. The sheer scale of the thing was terrifying.

Great work, I particularly love the shot of the fleet adrift under the probe, you get a great sense of just how huge the probe is there.

The addition of the extra ships falling to the probe and the attempt to intercept it by a hastily assembled fleet was a good addition - it gives the impending danger time to mature from a strange encounter to something hugely unstoppable. The way it simply ignores the attacking ships and snowploughs them with it's signal is really very good signalling that this is a power way beyond Starfleet's ability to confront.

That was a great touch when Saratoga was almost hit by the probe but floated harmlessly out of the way.

This is absolutely fantastic! Thank you for paying high attention to detail especially in regards to fleet ordinances. Ships of this era were phasing out the blue Andorian phaser beams for pulse phaser turrets. I also enjoyed seeing a young U.S.S Constellation. She was commissioned in 2275. The probe incident takes place in 2286. This makes her 11 years old. 😀

Wow, this was incredible! Almost like a 23rd century battle of Wolf 359 or similar to the Klingon encounter with the V'ger probe albeit with Starfleet doing the shooting. Awesome stuff. love all the different late-23rd century era ship designs.

Wow, what an unexpected treat. Having played Star Trek: Legacy extensively, I recognized a lot of voiceovers immediately, but I think it was a clever reuse of assets. This was an all around excellent expansion of the movie's events. And your teaser what if ending gets me thinking... would it have been more dramatic and fitting for Enterprise to have died this way? As noble as her sacrifice was in SFS, how poignant and timeless (haha) would it have been for her to go down in San Francisco Bay, perhaps even left there in memorial in honor of saving the Earth one last time? Ugh, the feelings.

I've got to give special attention to the spot-on Star Trek II - style photon torpedo effects. Nice subtle evolution of the TWOK phaser effect, too. Oh, and the way you emphasise the SCALE of the whale probe... Awesome.

You may have just convinced me to start making Trek animations again. This was absolutely beautiful. Well done!

I absolutely love this! The bit where the fleet engages the probe. You can tell this guy knows his Trek. It is the subtle references, like the Oberth using the older style phaser because it is not technically a front line ship in the Federation-Klingon Cold War. This vid actually puts some depth to Starfleet, that there is a fleet out there, something that was missed in the original film. It is simply a pleasure to watch.

AMAZING!! Absolutely AMAZING!! The fans do the BEST work!!! I'm dying to see more ,and of course the shot at the end showing the Enterprise 1701 in place of the Bird Of Prey has me smiling ear to ear!!!!

I thought that probe was so eerie when I first saw this in the theater - that humming sound and those high pitched sounds. The special effects team did a great job with this.

Absolutely glorious! We never did get a true fleet battle in the TOS era films. I may even have not realized how much we needed one until this video, which visualizes the Federation's engagement with the Probe en route to Earth rather than their off screen defeat as in the actual film.

Interesting that no one gives this Captain of the Saratoga credit for being the first female captain of the series.

This is like an alternate take on the Probe incident. Showing us what Starfleet was doing while Kirk and his crew were plotting on ways to get rid of the probe.

Loved that special touch at the end. Beautiful remaster. Just goes to show the power of the fandom to make the movies even more spectacular. 👏🏼🤩

You have done an amazing job at creating such fantastic scenes and filled a gap in the film which gives credibility to what would have happened when the probe had been located and was on a path towards Earth but what you have created is just amazing and the modeling and the special effects is brilliant,well done.

This is it. When fans have more ambitions to old good shows and remake them much better than the license owner. Good job!

That fleet action was incredible. It's always great to see quality work like this. The phaser effects looking all in keeping with the period and everything, and the ships all looking like that era too. Might have been cool to see some of them not up to date yet, but still, fantastic work! I'm off to watch some of your other videos. :) Keep up the good work!

The attention to detail is staggering. The thought put into each CGI scene is absolutely stellar. It feels like it would actually add something meaningful to the movie!

Can't tell you how impressive this scene was to watch in a theater, when it flew by Space Dock and drained its power like it was nothing.

That was fantastic to watch, you had me hooked whenever the scene changed after the first Cetecean probe and Federation starship encounter. A faithful yet original reimagining of a great Star Trek film! I especially like the unique phaser and photon torpedo weapon systems you selected for each Federation ship in your fleet.

I really dug seeing the Okinawa and Akula-class ships making an appearance! I had a lot of fun playing the old Interplay-era games they appeared in.

That was spectacular, you could easily splice that into the movie and it would be a welcome addition! One thing that Star Trek IV failed to do was really show a size comparison of the alien probe compared to other things in the known Star Trek universe, the probe you designed was bloody huge and really bought some much needed terror and dread. Thank you for creating this!

Love the extra ship shots. And it makes sense that the solar system would have starships there to defend it. I find it ridiculous that the movies never made an open attempt. What were the ships of the task force: names, classes, registries? It isn't easy to pause and see on a phone.

This was really great! Very cool how you bridged the gap of what happened and how much it actually affected the whole of the federation.

In the original movie The spacedock Scene has the Excelsior in the background when the men are speaking in your video you have the Excelsior in the background when the men are speaking and a constitution-class heading for the space doors nice little touch

I wonder how well the probe would hold up against the Borg! That's a scenario I'd love to see played out.

I am in awe of your detail and work in this. By far, the best era of Star Trek and the expanded scenes with new ships and especially the Mars Intercept Force attacking the probe to no effect, really brought more story to this scene. You have my respect for this recreation. Well done Sir!

As a life long Trekkie, I really appreciate the love these older films and series still get. I got my start at 5 years old with The Original Series reruns on VHS. And my personal favorite Star Trek Film is Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. I love the older series (2004 and older). With Voyager and DS9 my absolute favorites. In fact, I’m actually watching DS9 for the first time. I’ve been seeing so much about the Dominion War in Voyager and STO. So I had to get in the know so to speak.

Absolutely awesome. My sincere respects! I also love the recreation of the Golden Gate Sequence, it really shows the size difference between the Enterprise and a BoP, that fits beneath the bridge, while the Enterprise needs to pass above.

"Who would send a probe hundreds of lightyears to talk to whales?" - Dr. McCoy, 2286 I'd be careful there Doc, this "probe" just took out Starfleet's "Starfleets" to talk to whales because long-distance relationships are just dreadful to some species.

The ships are amazing to see in action.

The fact that you have some of the Constitutions that were cannibalized/reconfigured into transport modules is freaking amazing... This is literally the kind of stuff I think Trek fans were hoping to see when they were told they were getting series taking place in the past. Rather than complete revisionings from such classic looks. Amazing work!
