A guy who will be forgotten in a decade or two almost entirely. He’ll just be one of those names on all time stat lists young kids know nothing about. But he was one the best right handed hitters of the 90s. And one of the highest paid I think at one point with that texas contract. Pretty close to it.
I saw him in Baltimore Camden yards when he played for Detroit. In batting practice. He was hitting the upper deck & the facing consistantly in left field! I mimicked his swing when I played Mens league softball. It Worked!
How is Juan Gonzalez not in the HOF is beyond me. They say steroids may be the reason. Sad just like Barry Bonds not being in it. Juan hit over 400 HR’s, over 1400 RBI’s, .295 lifetime batting average and a 2 time AL MVP. 🤦♂️
Under 2,000 Hits, had the same number of Homers as Andruw Jones, but slumped badly the last 4 years of his career just like Jones, was out of the game too early. Just an absolute automatic RBI machine. They sure make him look like a Hall of Famer with this video though!
@@robertanderson2898 There’s no way in fucking hell would anyone in their right mind take Gary Carter or Allan Trammel over Andruw Jones and Juan Gonzalez. Both of those dudes are in the Hall. As a matter of fact you can go down that list and probably pull 10-20 players that aren’t in even in the same conversation when it comes to the talent, numbers, and accomplishments of Andruw Jones and Juan Gonzalez. The baseball Hall of Fame is a joke and an embarrassment. Nothing but a bunch of good ol boys old timers letting all their friends get in and not allowing players in that were clearly better baseball players than themselves and their buddies. Fuck the Hall of Fame!
@@kurtisviktor3286 this is how voters for the hall look at it atleast. Carter was a world champion catcher in a big city Juan was guy who hit homers in texas and didn’t win shit
Igor, his nickname, always had impressive power. Since he was a skinny kid in his hometown in Puerto Rico, the joke was that the bats he used were heavier than he was, the ball flew out. That was what caught the attention of the scout that signed him.
Fue firmado por el scout boricua Luis rosa para Texas ,rosa también firmo a Iván Rodríguez ,Carlos baerga ,Sandy Alomar ,Ozzie Guillén ,Roberto alomar .Iván Calderón ,Edwin Nuñez ,Wilson Alvarez ,José - pito - Hernández .
@@Nick-gk6usAverage WAR of a position player is 67, and Juan-Gon's 38.7. He didn't have strong defense like Pudge, or stronger offensive skills to cover his defensive weakness like Frank Thomas.
@@k.o.b.2154 Did you watch the guy play? Juan was a 2 time MVP, 3 time all star, home run champ, and was always at the top of RBI league leaders. BTW he also had a career average of .295. I'm not saying those guys don't deserve to be in the HOF but Juan needs to be there too.
My man was a true man and just different I have a genuine love for gonzo he was my favorite player and only player that kept up w his stats in the 90’s was griffey I know how good you were bro the illest swing by a right hand hitter ever
When I was about 12 or 13, I went to the last ranger game of the season. It was sometime around 1990 or 1991. I forget exactly which year, but it was Juan’s rookie year, and Julio Franco won the batting title. Regardless, Juan hit a walk off, and he was my favorite player all through the 90’s after that.
I met him at the Rangers club house back in the day in fort Myers. My man told us how he know all the pitchers tip offs. It was awesome sitting in that clinic
My all time fav! Played his entire career with injuries. He still put up outstanding numbers with half the atbats as most hall of famers. He lost about 5 seasons during his time injured. Like he said and I agree if not injured he would had 600 homers and batting close to .300 instead of the great .295 career he did. Also over 2,000 rbis for sure. He was not a good outfielder but was not horrific and had a strong arm. Many didn’t know He was a Pitcher and then started playing CF for the Rangers before going to LF then RF. Many shit on him and immediately link him with that mysterious bag a hitting caoch threw him under the bus with. Not confirmed if they were steroids and He and Magglio Ordoñez have begged to test them anytime and they never did.
I was sitting front row at an angels vs rangers game in 1996, Gonzalez crushed a home run against Troy Percival, 100MPH fast ball line drive out of left field, that memory is something Ill never forget.
Why can't I find his last at bat on here? It's literally the only video I can't find on here lol I was so excited to have him on cleveland again waiting for his hammy to heal and then his first and last at bat back pulls it again and calls it a career. Such a shame...he had at least 5 years left in him.

oh yeah he was the Yankee destroyer that year, demolished them, if his teammates would have helped, they would have won the 1996 playoff series, poor guy did everything without support.
Juan Gonzáles era la pesadilla de los New York Yankees y uno de los más odiados por el ex dirigente Yankees Joe Torres. Por la mirada luego del home run se le nota.
i remember in that era griffey, gonzalez, larry walker, barry bonds, andres galarraga, albert belle, frank thomas, jay bhuner, fred mcgrif, chipper jones, mcgwire we had a great batters, the best moment of the mlb, i did see mlb 16 years, i saw it two weeks ago and i didn't like what i saw, 0 emotions and too cold
You'd figure with 100+ RBI before the break, he'd have gotten close to Hack Wilson's record. Nope. If that was 1998, he finished with 157, his career high. Didn't even get to Manny's total of 165.
This guy was an absolute monster! Period! Steriods don't make you a stud. This guy could actually hit for power and a lifetime 295 avg. He should be in the HOF period.
@@ayscawbuay5889 he use to reach out and pick balls way out of the strike zone low to the ground for homeruns, think about that there is no power there!
Never been prove he did it, how you said that with out any prove, man he was a RBI MACHINE ABD FROM PUERTO RICO 🇵🇷 MAYBE THATS WHY YOU TALKING LIKE THAT, r u racist?
