I remember that when I was in college (more than half a century ago) my tutor told the class about Lord Denning refusing a particularly tiresome litigant permission to bring any more cases. It seems the litigant threw a book at His Lordship, who ducked. The court usher caught the book and Denning congratulated him on his reflexes.

Harry wants Chelsy back, that’s something no justice systems on earth would be able to award ... that’s why he wants to bring the whole British news agencies down .. of course he never analyse what his role was in the breakup. And the lady is now happily married with kid(s) and Harry is jealous that he’s not the husband/Father in her life. And she made the smartest decision in her whole life by leaving that joker.

I've not been keeping up with any of this stuff (I sort of wish Harry would just go away and media would ignore him) but that was an interesting glimpse onto the tedium of a case like this. Have you ever thought about doing some kind of detail-redacted retellings of cases you've worked on? That part in the middle about the case of the disappearing employee was surprisingly interesting. I expect there are issues with discussing these things but it would be quite interesting to hear about the thought process behind a case or how a line of argument was formed etc. Either way thanks for an interesting video.

Harry has made three trips to three very dangerous countries-I realize his end goal is IPP status; but can the judge look at those trips and be influenced that he is not in that much danger?

The observation that lawyers see cases as a battle whereas judges see them as problems is prescient in the tragic narrative of the Post Office case. The comment by one of the witnesses last week of the matter being 'overlawyered' seems to epitomise this when trying to settle cases in conflict.

I trust newspapers as much as I trust H & M, and as much as the justice system - which is not at all. They all deserve each other, whilst we sit back and laugh at them. The only winners are the overpaid lawyers and barristers - no matter if their client wins or loses. A great job to find.

Thanks for the 'flashback' music memory! 😁 A.I. is 'suffering' from being over-promoted. People who nothing about it are taking the advice from people who want to sell the tech to them. Experts (and I admit I'm not one) know there's *potential* ability for A.I. but also know that it's not reached that point yet. But the consultants/sellers of A.I. are selling the tech on that potential, not the ability. Currently, A.I. can make work easier and faster ... but the user must still know how to do the work. However, many people just think the programs will do the work for them. Ultimately it's a data gathering system ... and you still need to know what that data means, where it comes from, and potential issues with it.

I think it is a bit dangerous giving AI power to judge people.

Drama concentrates on criminal law; civil law is seemed less worthy of fictionalisation because the stakes are lower. So the public is far less aware of procedure in civil cases.

When AI doesn't need prompting or directed to create something and can in fact form thoughts and ideas for itself then it's not true AI, therefore it should not be by morality or justice be used in the court of law. An AI is only as infallible as those that create and prompt it's programming.

Hi Alan, I found the later part of your video extremely beneficial; Thank you. On 9/11/2022 Santander evicted my wife and I from our home for the repayment of a £28,000 debt. We had approximately £470,000+ in equity and were fully up to date with the interest payments. I have now spent almost two years compiling my evidence to reclaim my loses. Needless to say I have exhausted Santander's complaints procedure! Where can I find out which protocol I need to adopt and how does a Letter Before Action differ from Particullars of Claim? Using A.I. for judgements is a very bad idea. You have to to bear in mind that language models such as ChatGPT are essentially statistical engines; they look at what input you've provided as a whole and try to predict what comes next. There is no 'thinking' going on and they are very likely manipulatable with practice.

I'm not so sure on that comment about AI, sure it can be misused but when I look at the Horizon case the judges and lawyers in those cases did so much wrong that if those are the type of cases we use to teach AI its hardly surprising we get AI wrong, more importantly the current legal system is very very wrong. However, sentencing seems to be done by spreadsheet anyway...
