Reposting from my comment earlier; To me, Jank is less of a defined, hard-and-fast thing, and more of a combination of qualities, that upon reaching a threshold combine to make something Jank. Qualities that increase “Jank Level” include: - Weird or unusual/unexpected effects - Low price on the card - Having no *immediate* effect on the board state - Being more situational than widely applicable - - ^Related to above; requiring very specific or strange deckbuilds to function well - Making players around the table mutter in confusion and/or question why you’re playing the card Once a card or combination of cards has reached a certain threshold of those qualia, it is then “Jank”. It doesn’t need to have all those qualities, but it needs to have at least some of them. Worth noting, things can become more or less jank over time; Dark Depths was really janky before the Thespian Stage/Vampire Hexmage combos were found.

What makes quicksilver fountain so freaking great is if you bounce it during the end step of the opponent before your upkeep then replay it on your turn it won't affect PLUS if you can continue to bounce it the floor counter STAYS on the lands, and the ability DOES NOT go away, so their lands are PERMANENTLY islands for the remainder of the match. As per OFFICIAL rulings of WotC's rules page on this card.

@@NotYourAverageNothing It can be in certain niche decks, but it's not jank in every deck or situation. There's some instances where it's just good or beneficial and some where it's just used as yet another piece of stax, just depends on the deck in my opinion. But no, I wouldn't typically consider it to be a jank card either, so I get what ya mean.

@@Spootprime Yup, says so in the rulings: "If you control two Anointed Processions, then the number of tokens created is four times the original number. If you control three, then the number of tokens created is eight times the original number, and so on." Which means, first you will get 2 procession tokens. If that all survives then next turn you get 8 new tokens for a total of 11 processions. so on the third turn after you've equipped the helm you will have (2^11)+11=2059 Anointed processions on the board. Assuming the game isn't over by then. :)

Alright, I'll bite: here are two Goldberg combos I actually use in my decks: Commander: Ayula Combo: Gaia's Anthem, Words of Wilding, Ashnod's Altar, Elemental Bond. Pay 1 on your draw step to replace your draw with a 2/2 bear, that'll become a 3/3 thanks to the Anthem; That'll trigger your Bond and give you an Ayula trigger. Sac the bear to your altar with the triggers on the stack for 2 colorless, and pay 1 into your words to replace your draw. Infinite Ayula triggers and infinite colorless mana. Commander: Xancha Combo: Workhorse, Dross Scorpion, Cauldron of Souls, Words of War. Remove all counters from Workhorse for mana, and use your cauldron to give it persist. Once it comes back you can remove it again, and thanks to Dross Scorpion you can untap your cauldron whenever the horse dies. This nets you infinite colorless mana. Use that mana for an absurd number of Xancha triggers, and keep using Words of War to replace your draws with more damage to avoid milling yourself.

I love this. I would like to lodge a minor complaint- that being the definition of Jank here? To me, Jank is less of a defined, hard-and-fast thing, and more of a combination of qualities, that upon reaching a threshold combine to make something Jank. Qualities that increase “Jank Level” include: - Weird or unusual/unexpected effects - Low price on the card - Having no *immediate* effect on the board state - Being more situational than widely applicable Once a card or combination of cards has reached a certain threshold of those qualia, it is then “Jank” It should be noted that things can start out being Jank, but then lose this quality. Dark Depths is kind of a weird, silly jank card, but now that the Thespian Stage and/or Vampire Hexmage combo has become widespread, and the cards have increased in price, I wouldn’t consider it one. A good rule of thumb; if the card comes down on the table, and your opponent says some variation of the following; “wait, what? What set is that even from? It does what???” “ Why would you play that?” “ Oh shit, that actually works?!” Then you’re probably dealing with Jank

Is no one gonna talk about how the drawback of Spellweaver Volute did not get mentioned of only casting the certain instant once then you have to pick another one?????
@Proudfootzorz
@Proudfootzorz 3 года назад
He skipped right over that part... I was saying Whoa whoa you skipped the drawback.
@evanorie535
@evanorie535 3 года назад
@@Proudfootzorz I'd call that upside rather than a drawback. You get to keep picking new stuff and you can keep opponents from recurring their spells.
@Proudfootzorz
@Proudfootzorz 3 года назад
@@evanorie535 that's one way to look at it yeah. The way he read it though I thought you could just keep copying the one spell over and over when you find a good one.
@mx.winterwolf
@mx.winterwolf 3 года назад
@@evanorie535 true! Just meant the downside of only getting the spell once, but you can get some sweet other instants too if they're there
