@@jmsl910bit late to the party, but I’ve read the Night Circus! In a similar position to you, I had to start over a couple times to get the ball rolling. It’s very much a book more focused on the atmosphere than the plot, so you have to be in a certain headspace to read it imo. When I read it I didn’t really get the hype, but it’s very much a book I could go back to in a few years once I’ve forgotten the plot and am not at a point where I’ve got low mental energy.

There are a few reasons why I don't rate all of my books on goodreads, the main ones being: 1) I want to give said book a half star (i.e. 3.5) but goodreads doesn't facilitate that 2) When I joined goodreads I added a load of books I'd already read, and felt I couldn't accurately rate them retrospectively

Storygraph allows for half and quarter star ratings! You can also upload your goodreads shelf directly so you don’t need to manually put in every book you’ve already read

Why so many unrated books on Goodreads? For me the answer is that I had around 60 years of reading before there was Goodreads. I try to enter books that I know I have read with the approximate dates that I read them. But it is usually a bit much to supply a star rating. I may not remember them well enough to give a fair rating. If I do remember them, I may be conscious of the fact that I would rate quite differently when I read them than decades later. So I skip a rating unless I decide to reread books I read long ago.

7:00 has a similar taste in books to me (although I haven't read any webcomics other than Heartstopper) so that was interesting. Also my average rating is 4.6 and I think it's more because I added a bunch of books from before I had goodreads that I read a while back and rated the ones I remember really liking as 5 stars but didn't rate the rest, so both there's the imbalance and the fact that they probably weren't that good I just remember them as better.

I made a Goodreads account to track what I read (before I just wrote it down in a notebook) and also added a bunch of books at the same time (like, 20 years of reading). Some I rated based on memory - if I remember liking them, 5 stars- and some I didn't rate at all. For some, I changed the rating a few years later.

In defense of people with high average ratings: I used to be an avid reader untill like 3 years ago and started reading again maybe a year ago. It isn't a habit like it used to be and so I only want to spend my time reading books I will most likely actually really like and not spend my time on books that are just okay or not fun at all and I think a lot of people do the same

Leonie, have to read Fence! It's LGBTQ+ rivals to lover graphic novel. Though the author didn't not really confirmed that they will be lover. But she did gave few hints. At least, I ship them together and other readers too. You should definitely do a reading vlog. 😊

I completely agree about ratings systems. You can't like every single book exactly the same unless you're the easiest person to please on the planet. As for me, most books are about a 3 star read. I don't love them or hate them. They're fine. But every now and then I get one that's terrible or one that I love. So I use those ratings too. Just not as often.

OMG a month ago I started All For The Game and I cant get out of it!!! Its actually a problem. I spend more time relistening to the audiobooks and reading fanfic than I do doing hw. I have entire paragraphs of the series memorized and routinely quote them TO MYSELF
