Judy Garland's Husband Claims She Was Molested By Munchkins During 'Oz' Filming

Was Judy Garland molested when she was 16 during the filming of The Wizard Of Oz? That is the new claim about the munchkins in the soon-to-be published book Judy And I: My Life With Judy Garland, by her late husband Sid Luft. "They would make Judy's life miserable on set by putting their hands under her dress," wrote Luft, who died in 2005. "They thought they could get away with anything because they were so small." According to reports, Luft does not name the actors who allegedly molested her. #InsideEdition

@@MaskedMan66 i disagree, her life was already pretty hard before Wizard of Oz came out - her mother was very cruel to her and was hellbent on sending her into show business from a very young age, and she was signed to MGM when she was 13. From then on out, she was fed pills to keep her energy up when she was filming and pills to help her sleep when she wasnt filming, she was being told that she was overweight and her diet was controlled by people at MGM and it was all over the place (leaving her with lifelong body image issues). This went on for 4 years until the Wizard of Oz was filmed when she was 17. I wouldnt say the problems started after the movie, but they certainly got worse after it as her drug addiction grew (because of the constant pills she was given by MGM) and the standards for her were much higher.

@@Olivia-tl1le Except that it didn't go on "for 4 years until the Wizard of Oz was filmed when she was 17," (a) because she'd only been with MGM for three years before she started on "Wizard" at the age of 16, and (b) according to California child labor laws, she could not work more than four hours a day. Given that she had tons of natural energy, she certainly needed no artificial stimulation to keep moving during that sort of a work period. It’s terribly tragic and shameful that we continue to watch or celebrate a movie that ruined a young girl’s life. She never stood a chance of leading a happy life as an adult. The demons continued to haunt her until death. How sad for her. I’m glad it’s less scary for child stars and actors in general today. Though, we’re far from a healthy society.

She had no reason at this point in her life to cry for help about anything. People conflate her later life and career with her early life and career. The truth is that she was over the moon to be playing Dorothy Gale, and "Over the Rainbow" was a song written for the movie by two other people.

In 1928 & 29 my mom was in the Barnes circus. She told stories about the little people, who were raucous and often drunk. These circus folks later became the Munchkins. She said they were pretty difficult to work with. My mom was 19-20. So this doesn't surprise me. My uncle was a producer of Wizard of Oz and he said everyone abused Judy in one way or another, but she persevered and aren't we lucky she did. My uncle said she could sing like nobody's business.
