JUDY In Cinemas 2 October
Winter 1968 and showbiz legend Judy Garland arrives in Swinging London to perform in a sell-out run at The Talk of the Town.
It is 30 years since she shot to global stardom in THE WIZARD OF OZ, but if her voice has weakened, its dramatic intensity has only grown.
As she prepares for the show, battles with management, charms musicians, and reminisces with friends and adoring fans, her wit and warmth shine through. Even her dreams of romance seem undimmed as she embarks on a courtship with Mickey Deans, her soon-to-be fifth husband.
And yet Judy is fragile. After working for 45 of her 47 years, she is exhausted; haunted by memories of a childhood lost to Hollywood; gripped by a desire to be back home with her kids. Will she have the strength to go on?
Featuring some of her best-known songs, including the timeless classic ‘Over the Rainbow’, JUDY celebrates the voice, the capacity for love and the sheer pizzazz of “the world’s greatest entertainer”.

This movie probably will not do well in the theaters. It's a shame that today's generation doesn't keep up with those that made it before they were born. Judy Garland will always be one of the best voices and talents to ever hit the screen. I'm going to try and go see it but going to the movies isn't a luxury I have time for it this point in my life. I hope I'm wrong in the film does great!!!!!

Not sure why the comments are disabled for the trailers. But for people of a certain age just the trailers are too painful to watch!

Merely titling a film about Judy Garland "Judy" doesn't make the actress portraying the titled role the embodiment of the film's subject. And at least based upon what I may see here (in the "Judy" trailer) of the Garland portrayal by Renée Zellweger, the definitive Garland portrayal still belongs to Judy Davis in "Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows" (2001) based upon the memoir "Me and My Shadows: A Family Memoir" by Lorna Luft, Garland's daughter with second husband Sid Luft. Davis not only appeared more like her subject than does Zellweger, she also delivered a better acting performance in her portrayal of Judy Garland. And though both films utilize younger actresses to portray the teenage Garland, Davis portrayed Garland for longer periods of her life than does Zellweger, who basically only portrays Garland in the final year of her life. And also, for what they are worth, Davis received Emmy and Golden Globe Awards for her performance as Garland in that made-for-television (ABC) biopic. However. in Zellwegerer's favor is that she evidently sang her own vocals (or at least two numbers with singers Sam Smith and Rufus Wainwright for the film's soundtrack), while Davis relied upon dubbing Garland's actual singing for the musical numbers in the 2001 TV film. But I will still reserve final judgement until after I have heard Zellweger's singing as Garland, because it could be the dubbed vocals of Garland for Judy Davis work out better than Renée Zellweger's actual singing of Garland's tunes.

gymnastix Davis was brought on too early in the film, I did not perceive her as believable at all as a younger Judy. While Davis did a great job in the end, I believe we are going to see a more vulnerable side to Garland’s inner life through Zellweger.

I've seen both, and I loved both for different reasons. Judy Davis was sensational, and Renee was so touching as Judy. I prefer the actual movie with Judy Davis, this last was quite Hollywood. But then again, so was Judy!

And Renee Zellwegger won ANOTHER award tonight. And fools who judged her BEFORE seeing the entire film have enough egg on their arrogant faces to make enough quiche for the entire state of New Jersey.

This woman will never ever become Judy Garland whatever they do to her. It is forced. She has a completely different face.
