JUKA: A Spoiler Free Backstory 

Every time I get an idea of how much effort goes into each of Moon's creations, it's like "nope, waaaay more work than that".

Imagine the cops being called on moon for some noise complaint during the time he was building juka and they open the garage to see all the bones on the floor. And they're like "NOPE fuck it, I choose life!" 🤣

Hey Moon, as a fellow custom figure, doll, and model creator I just want to say that this sort of video means a lot to me. For as long as I can remember I've repeatedly drawn and iterated on certain characters I made when I was younger, and I always dreamed of making them into something physical. And while I was no stranger to sprucing up dolls, models, and figures to suit my preferences I never really knew just what was necessary to bring my personal characters to life. But, like you, I randomly witnessed some techniques (from a Japanese model maker's RU-vid channel) that inspired me to try them out. From there it was like the fog that had been surrounding my creativity for years finally lifted and technique after technique, tool after tool fell into place. I'm still sloooooowly making my way through things, but it's been absolutely majestic knowing that I can finally materialize the designs that've been in my head since childhood without needing some overly expensive services or individuals to help me do it. Hilariously enough the video that set this all off for me was one randomly recommended by RU-vid after watching one of your videos a year and a half ago.

I love how - in the animations she's in - Juka seems to be this neutral character. She doesn't seem to like or hate anyone but she's willing to make pink armor if they ask.

It's honestly insanely cool seeing something that goes as far back as childhood stick with someone well into adulthood evolving along with them. It makes juka really special and stand out even more so while also maintaining that sense of mystery all the same

Sooo basically juka is like ur first daughter creation. You made her in paper then you have this idea to put her in real life and you did it. It amazing how you built her for so many years.

This is why stopmotion is the best form of animation. You get to interact with figures you make directly rather than digitally. Sure it’s time consuming but it’s quite fun really. I used stopmotion for my animation thesis and, even though I encountered a lot of issues (mostly editing issues), it was fun to make the figures and puppets come to life through stopmotion.

That is so cool! She went from an imaginary monster, to a development monster, to a REAL Monster!~

Quite astonished how Juka was inspired from the various fascinating creatures Earth has but also the childhood memory of when you held an octopus. Development takes a long time of course so no one should blame you for having Juka be stuck in production hell

I just realised Moonshine is like the mirror version of Lovecraft. One grew to fear the sea the other was fascinated by it, one was sheltered the other explored. In the end, they both ended up creating a monster of the dark and deep.

Juka truly is one of a kind

Everytime when a writer, an artist or a storyteller takes out a new character to their many stories, those individuals will sooner or later disappear for a while or forever. But sometimes, there will be 1 peculiar character that will remain and become the symbol of those wonderful tales and drawings, a character that nothing will make it vanish and the thousands will love it till the end of time. JUKA is that peculiar character. After you show her to us, we are nothing more than grateful and delight that she is your masterpiece. She is wonderful. She is beautiful. She is.....perfect.

I myself am a huge fan of HP Lovecraft's stories and I just love the monsters and gods in the Lovecraft Mythos and so when i first heard about your character Juka she instantly became a favorite character for me

Nice to see I’m not alone in my morbid and powerful fascination for deep sea creatures lol. While alas I cannot draw or properly visualize my imagination artistically (A limitation I find endlessly infuriating), I can fortunately wright and world build fairly well (They’re my main hobbies), and I can put that curiosity to use there. Your stop motion animations and the worlds within them (In particular a Side Of Shrapnel and Off The Grid, my two favorites) have always been a massive inspiration for me, especially the monsters and places. I find it interesting that for some reason we really seem to share a lot of the same interests in the creative process, such as what I like to call “Beautiful-Abominations” or “Beautiful-Monsters”, like from Bloodborne, which you seemed to enjoy. Idk, I guess it’s just nice to know I’m not completely mental and alone lol. Fantastic vid, I’m looking forward for more!

Interesting story. Makes since Kubo would be your inspiration for bringing Juka to life. I remember being impressed by that giant skeleton as well. Should watch that movie again one day it's been a long while.

Love your stop motion. Not only is the flow in each fps perfect but the sound and the figures (Self made ones) are amazing I love the creativity that goes into the background for each scene as well.

Plot twist: Juka has been controlling Moon since her conception and now that he has made her a body she is now free to cause terror.

This is very cool, Im not a full follower of your works but it made look like Juka wad your first creation and many elements of your universe lore revolve around her. Now I'm starting to think whats the deal with Reznya? So she is close to Juka and seems trusting of her. I only watched your videos so i can only theorize that Reznya was formerly human until Alouette and Cecilia really messed her up, she would had died not for Juka somehow "saving" her. But she became an abherrant exactly like everything Juka touches (like Googles and Astolfo, thou unlike them Juka opted to not remove her memories like she did with the other two, mostly to make then forget something horrible that happenned between their transformation), Juka also seems to be protective of Reznya in many ocassions seen. And I do believe that Reznya way of protecting children was also caysed by Juka by protecting her who is just a defenseless child in comparison to her given the situation they met, explaining why Reznya wants to do the same thing. On the other hand I also believe there is something more sinister behind her and Reznya's actions. So I'm completely boggled at this point, either Reznya is not seen as a friend to her but rather as a "child" in her own eldritch ways (could even be a possibility that also became an extension of Juka that still has her consciousness as a concept of eldritch horror lore). Hope we get to know more about them in due time! Edit: Spelling mistakes everywhere, wrote originally on phone... Sorry for dropping your heart Moon : P
