I didn't know it was possible to fall in love with someone by having their Wikipedia article described to me by Tom Scott, but...

an addendum regarding Julie d'Aubigny's Wikipedia page: it is significantly more boring now. the bits about burning down convents, stapling noblemen to trees, et cetera have been removed since they "[appear] to have been fictional", at least according to the Talk page. however, that same discussion also mentions that there is "next to no scholarly analysis about this woman's actual life written in English." French history majors, this is your golden chance.

Gary's line: "Well, that's what she was doing with the swords, to be honest." is probably my favorite joke I've heard this series. It took about 3 seconds to click, but man was that a good response

I love that Chris's specialty topic is military history, and yet he refers to the art of fencing as "SWORDING!"

Now that I'm thinking about it, I have to wonder... did Julie and her girlfriend concoct the plan together, or did her girlfriend hear a tap on the window and open it to see Julie holding a corpse?

Doing my regular rewatching of Citation Needed this episode is a delight to reach, as I since last time I watched it has gotten to know a lady who I've over time become increasingly convinced is a time traveling Julie D'Aubigny. The many ways in which they effectively are the same person existing at different points in time is remarkable.

Well. If there isn't already a story based on Julie D'Aubigy's life, there clearly needs to be one.

Running trend across this show: Tom misusing the term "opposite" and everyone else calling him on it instantly.

Will:I'm not from Yorkshire Gary: get him out .....hang on a second Gary.......neither is Tom. Tom's from Nottinghamshire. ☺️

So surprising the Tom's weakness is pronouncing French nouns. Dare I say? I will. It's adorable.

I'll be honest, if I could only choose one of them, I'd pick Matt over Will, but if I had my choice, I'd love to see all five of you together. Will Seward still has a damn fine sense of humor even if he doesn't talk as much and has me in stitches just as often as the rest of you. Glad you brought him on board.

When Gary said "that window needs just a gentle tap on it now" I got a chill imagining an immortal Julie or her ghost or her ghoul or something actually doing that.

And now, 4 years later, almost all the interesting content was removed from the Wikipedia article due to lack of reliable sources.

Will Seaward (i'm sure i'm misspelling that) has an absolutely delightful voice. Tom if you ever see him again, please tell him that at least one person on the internet adores his voice.

Actually fencing to get specific scars is still a rite of passage in some german university fraternities, it is seen as quite backwards by most people though

I just love how twice in this clip, Gary's just stuck trying to process what he's hearing. Just...hands on temple, hunched over, with a sputtering "HOW CAN-?!"
