I knew he was gonna slot the arm higher for a back to back fastball down the middle as his strike out pitch. It's interesting that in today's pitching environment, teams really stress pitchers keeping a consistent arm slot. It's the complete opposite of the thought process from back in the day. As an example, in "The Science of Hitting," Ted Williams talks about how having multiple arm slots for every pitches effectively increases your pitch repertoire. He believed if a guy threw 3 pitches, but could throw each of them from 2 arm slots, the pitcher essentially had 6 pitches.
@jawbone78
@jawbone78 Год назад
He's right, but that's also *why* teams stress keeping the consistent arm slot. Very few pitchers are capable of throwing more than three good pitches, so it comes down to whether or not you want your guys to focus really hard on being able to repeat the three good pitches they have really well, or throw more pitches less well. I think 100% of pitching coaches in the major and minor leagues would prefer to have their guys focus on quality over quantity in their repertoires, but there will always be some freaks for whom the normal rules don't apply.

Jomboy is what Major League Baseball needed as far as keeping the younger generation interested. They are used to having all the information. Jomboy perfectly translates the minutiae to them and everyone else that didn't really understand the complexity of baseball as a professional sport. I don't say this lightly, Jomboy will be in the Baseball broadcaster's Hall of Fame one day for changing how Sports is reported on and especially how completely complex a game like Baseball actually is.

Does this happen often with Soto enjoying a good pitcher batter duel? I would never have expected such gamesmanship and mutual respect from either a pitches or Soto. Clips I’ve seen, Soto is proven to be great enough a batter that he can shuffle about and glare at the pitcher.

@@jacobflowers0529 Why I was ask’n. I liked him because he can hit and is brave enough to act that macho. Now I like him more if he’s running about with respect for good pitching and not going to the dugout to say how lucky that pitcher got! Edit There IS always next time as I’m sure he knows!
