Glad to see you back; your antique samplers are just lovely. Hopefully once you get settled in your new home you will find time to chart those beautiful French samplers you shared today. I am sure I am not alone in desiring to stitch them, too.

I will, they are just so gorgeous, I agree. Miss Cecile had such talent creating these, color and design are just stunning. I think the first one was the one with the shepherdess as the date was 25 August 1822 (got the month sorted withy some help ❤ thank you Marleen!)

Hi Birgit -- so glad to see you back on flosstube; I've missed you. Was so surprised to hear Mr. & Mrs. Feller sold some of their extensive collection. I was privileged, along w/2 of my friends to go on a needlework tour in the UK in 2016 & one of the many places we visited was Upper Slaughter Manor, their home. We were there the entire afternoon & to say we were totally blown away by their collection is an understatement!! It was absolutely stunning!! They were the nicest couple, even made us a fantastic lunch that we enjoyed on their back lawn. It was an unbelievable afternoon & a wonderful memory. I looked up the reason for the auction--some 300 pieces of needlework, along w/some of their beautiful furniture, paintings, potteries, etc--& found out they also sold that beautiful Manor house as they were wanting to downsize. From what I could gather the whole 2-day auction garnered over £1,000,000!! I'm so glad my friends & I had the opportunity to tour their lovely home; it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime tour I will never forget!! ❤

Hi Denyse! Great to see you 😍 You lucky girl to have been able to visit there ❤️Yes, I had the dates wrong it was 2021 - there comes a time in life were you just want things to be easy :) Here is one of the videos advertising the auction. I think a large part of the sampler collection was also donated to the museum and of course there are a bunch of newspaper articles about it too. I wonder if they are another result after Covid, people reassessing their life....ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HqaQglLYze0.htmlsi=3zo61hM00kYEK7eR thanks for stopping in!! *hugs*

Greetings! Happy to see you again. Glad you're enjoying your new home. The sewing box is stunning. I believe the ivory pieces, that are not needle holders, with the silk ribbon attached, are knitting needle guards. I've seen similar ones on E-bay sites that specialize in antique sewing items. Cheers!

So nice to see you again, Birgit. I completely understand the chaos of your move! We moved to a different city in November and at 74 and 80, are still crawling out from unpacking, but getting close! I hope you find peace, soon! I purchased a 1912 what I believe to be a German marking/darning sampler. It was a somewhat local find...truly a treasure and well preserved. I was trying to figure out what type of thread was used, and After seeing this video, it might well be linen thread! I emailed photos to you just for you to marvel in how sweet (and big) it is! Hugs, Candace

I hope so too! That is a lot of stitches to chart 😁 and the two should be put into to one pattern I think - or maybe two...not sure on that yet. It would make a huge chart if both were in one....

Hello, Birgit! I love your videos! :) I learn so much from them. (I was traveling for the past few weeks and am now playing catch up) As a certified Bibliophile I will have to add those books to my shelves--much to the chagrin of my husband! He will just have to make me some more bookshelves and maybe add a room to the house! The composition of the Cecile Faguet samplers is what draws me to them. They are beautiful!

Thank you for your kind words! You can never have enough good books! Ever though we did do a slight purge before our move (mostly old paperbacks) Cecile's samplers are a notch above others. I am so furtonate that I found those. 😍

Oh, I can't tell you how pleased I am to see a new Flosstube from you! A move from Connecticut to Mississippi is definitely a good reason not to have recorded a video. Moves aren't fun, but I hope you find northern Mississippi a pleasant place to live. You're just up the road from me - the road being the Natchez Trace Parkway. Driving the Trace I live about an hour south of Tupelo, and from what you said describing your location you probably live in Tupelo's general vicinity., so maybe we can meet for lunch in Tupelo one day soon!

Hello Birgit, so happy to see you back , I have missed your videos. Love the beautiful sewing box and I was thinking the two ivory things that are joined with string look like knitting needle protectors you put on to keep the stitches from accidentally sliding off when you lay your knitting down.

Thanks for a delightful video, Birgit. Nice to see you back. You had so many pretty things to show. Those 2 French house/pastural pieces are so beautiful (Aout = August). Enjoyed seeing all those lovely Anchor linen threads, pretty colours, as well as the wool thread samples. Loved seeing Ann McFarlan stitched in different floss and fabric. I have this pattern, undecided yet on floss colour. Yours looked wonderful. I'm curious about things going in the freezer. I expect it kills bugs, does it also kill mold? I think the last place I lived had mold circulating. I noticed a musty/stale smell on everything after I moved and threw away much stitchy stuff. I have my finished pieces in plastic bags, and don't know what to do with them. Some can't be washed as have overdyed threads or fabrics. Have you run into any helpful ideas in your business and dealing with these old samplers that come from various locations.
@thewishingthorn
@thewishingthorn 3 месяца назад
Yes they only way to destroy bugs, it will halt mold but not destroy it. The things used to kill mo6ld are too harsh for the samplers. my hope is that at least the bugs will be gone and if there is no dampness it will not allow the mold to regrow. White vinegar kills mold spores but I'm not sure it would work on the piece....😍

Such Eye candy! And welcome neighbor! I'm about a hour and a half west of you, near Byhalia! You are probably going through culture shock if you've lived in Connecticut for a long time. Just be prepared for the long sticky summer coming up. -Rebecca

@thewishingthorn 3 месяца назад
*waves* at neighbor. It was not a real culture shock 😍, I have lived in FL for several years before CT and before that NM. I love MS a lot, we scouted the area last summer (july/August)and knew for sure this is what we wanted It was the same weather as in CT 🤣 AND let me tell you - the sticky summers also are in CT, most of the summers are in the 90s with 98% humidity. Most people don't realize that. I was so surprised how much worse the summers felt in CT, moving from FL. MS does really make it's state motto proud, I have never met more friendly & welcoming people as here...up north they do have more "tude".....

Hi Birgit, So good to hear from you. I am glad you made the journey safely. I was just skived out but the “bug” in the French Sampler. I have the Feller books. I bought them from a lady in France. Probably paid way too much. I love the Anchor linen floss. Excited to hear what you think of it. Give yourself time to organize. It will all come together for you. Have a lovely week. Hugs, Teresa

Until your video I did not know there was a sampler in the cover. My books came sealed in plastic. I have not opened. I saw a copy at a retreat that a fellow stitch mate brought. My life has become very busy lately with carrying for Dad and babysitting my granddaughter. Also running a little company and working full time. Right now I just cherish family time and focus on my WIPs. I am very interested to see what you think of the Anchor Linen. Happy Easter! Hugs, Teresa
