You have a beautiful garden Annette, you and Richard have done alot of hard work but it has definitely paid off. There are so many beautiful plants and the colors are glorious. It must be really beautiful when you look outside and see all that you have created, it's just magical.

Flower beds look amazing. All your hard work sowing seeds and growing them on has payed off. Wow over three hundred dahlias and so many pretty ones, I can see how difficult it is to pick a favourite. The nematode drench is certainly doing its thing protecting your precious blooms. Certainly been a dreadful year for those pesky slugs and snails.

Hello Annette, thank you so much for sharing your garden in such detail. There was so much to see and you have a few things I have in my garden. I definitely have the Cosmos "Double Click White" and I can't remember if you showed some but I have some called "Sweet Sixteen" which are well worth growing. I have found some of the Cosmos can flop over and snap at the base, so I had to tie one back with a very snapped stem, but it's gone on to full flowering mode right now. I also found sticking short lengths of stick or bamboo just to give some support at the very lower ends just gives the Cosmos plants the support to grow tall without fall all over the place. Your garden always reminds me of "The Glory of the Garden" by Rudyard Kipling. I still have one more of your videos to watch and then I've caught up with you. Thanks again. XX
@cottoverdi
@cottoverdi Месяц назад
Thanks Jimmy. I've sown Sweet Sixteen in the past (and still have some seeds) but I really had to narrow down my choice this year because all the annuals can become overwhelming when I'm potting up and watering hundreds ... plus they drive Richard insane since we don't have a greenhouse (yet). Yes, my Cosmos can flop too but I generally pack things in so tightly that they don't have a chance, having said that, I had to prop-up 2 dahlias today because they've grown taller than I was expecting and Ryecroft Porcelain fell over in the rain. 😕 Your reference to Rudyard Kipling has me gobsmacked. That's the kindest compliment and I really appreciate it. Thank you so much. 😊

My dahlias are still growing but the ones in flower which are new to us this year are Copper Boy which is the most stunning flower I've ever seen. Genova Mystic Spirit Poodle Skirt Who dunnit and Fire Pot which was a £1 tuber from B&M in the sale. To keep slugs off we bought nematodes x2, we also use slug pellets and we also use fishing forceps to pull them off twice and evening. But the copper boy dahlia is just stunning. Never seen anything like it.

Oh, that's so exciting Adam because I do have 1 Copperboy tuber that is new this year - now I can't wait for it to start flowering. I had Poodle Skirt last year but lost them all over winter so I will have to replace them but I'm growing Fenna Baaij as it's very similar. 🌸

Fabulous garden tour. My dahlia wish list is getting longer! ha ha. Im am chuffed to bits with my Koko Loko too. Just planted up this spring as a bare root plant and it is absolutely smothered in its' delicious blooms. Simply gorgeous. It looks as if the rose Henri Delbard has died. It was also planted up as a bare root this Spring. Truly disappointing. I may buy another in next Spring as it would have fitted in perfectly in the spot I chose for it. Out of the 6 ross I bought that one was te only one to die 😞 My cut flower bed at the allotment has been keeping me, friends, family and neighbours in lovely bouquets for the past few weeks. It is so lovely to bring them into the house and to bring joy to others. Chuffed to bits with my new apricot flowered salvia. Can't remember the name but I have put it alongside Icing sugar, 2 pretty plants together. I am rambling again so I'll leave you in peace.Happy gardening 🙂 x
@cottoverdi
@cottoverdi Месяц назад
Thanks Be. I love Koko Loko so much - such an unusual colour and it's been flowering for AGES - much longer than the Eustacia Eye (that I also love but has finished for now). I've also had blooms on Julia's Rose this year and the colours are so similar but the flowers are smaller and more open with less petals - so a good number of differences and I'm really enjoying it. 😁

Thanks for the tour, such beautiful Dahlias! I grew Teesbrooke Audrey last year and fell in love with it but it didn’t reappear this year, I think the wet start to the year put paid to that. Interesting that you have had some come up the wrong colour as I planted one this year which should be orange and has just started flowering and is lemon yellow. Annoying as the reason I got it was that it had the same name as my mum and now I’m wondering if I have the right plant. You have a great little ladybird farm on that daisy, I have some ox-eye daisies near my rose and found that the black fly preferred them and left the rose alone so I’m happy to keep them in as a decoy 😊
@cottoverdi
@cottoverdi Месяц назад
Thanks Nicki, It's so annoying when we get sent the wrong tubers - I have a HORRENDOUS orange one that is supposed to be happy Butterfly and it's really upsetting 😕 I was very tempted to leave that daisy in all summer but it was starting to look bedraggled and it was really blocking some beautiful dahlias so I've yanked it out now. Hopefully the butterflies will find all the other gazillion aphids in my garden - I've never seen them on my dahlias before this year and this year some of the dahlias are literally covered in them. Very annoying 🫤
