Thank you so much for showing the whole process. Obviously one needs to have a solid color theory foundation to be able to play with the fabric in that way. I am so happy you recommended the use of "steam a seam"! I will use it in the future.

Loved the video! I wish you explained why you placed the fabrics in the flower in the sequence shown in the tape. It looked like you were trying to create different shadows or depth to the flower. Would it have worked if you placed a different sequence of the same colors?

Fun video! I ordered two different patterns of yours to try collage quilting. Question: can you take off the paper from the steam a seam on the whole piece you prepared vs each cut by cut? In theory it should reduce the slight edge fray and need for re-trimming.

Just beautiful! Where did you get the fabric for the center of the large flower? The fussy-cut “stamen” looking things. Do you feel a beginner could do this? Thanks for all you do and share!

Thank you! Yes, this is appropriate for a beginner- especially if you use fussy-cut fabric like I did. The center of the flower is from a Kaffe Fasset fabric, although I don't remember the name of the piece or the fabric collection. Philip Jacobs (a designer in the Kaffe Fasset Collective) designs many beautiful floral patterns that are fun to use to fussy-cutting!

Hi Claire~ I scratch the back of the piece to peel the paper from the fusible that I've applied to the back of the fabric. The fusible that I use (Lite Steam a Seam 2) is double sided and has a temporary adhesive on the back so that it will stick to the foundation pattern.

I don’t think she was using paper. I think the pattern was actually printed on cotton that stays sandwiched in the final product.

She’s not using paper. The pattern is printed onto the fabric backing that is much larger.

Could the fabric be adhered to a prepared canvas that is normally for painting?

Great question! While I haven't done that, I'm sure it would work. You might want to use a raw canvas, rather than one that has been prepared with gesso. I don't know how the adhesive with react with a canvas prepared to paint. The best way to find out is to try it!

You can purchase color bundles that offer a spectrum of each color from light to dark on my website: collagequilter.com. There are 18 pieces of fabric that are 1/8 yard cuts. The pink and green are perfect for this quilt!

Yes- this is a "Foundation Panel" pattern, which means the design is printed on the fabric. This guides fabric selection and fabric placement. My other type of pattern is a "Parchment Pressing" pattern, which is made without a foundation panel. If you purchase on my website, it will say whether the pattern is a foundation panel or parchment pressing pattern.

Sorry about the technical issues! No- the fabric is not included, only the pre-printed foundation panel.

Your patterns are on paper so do you put paper in the Quilt? Or is this a step I missed or are you using something besides paper? I am confused sorry.

No problem! No, if you are working with one of my paper patterns rather than one that has been printed on the foundation fabric, simply trace the design onto a piece of lightweight cotton fabric by hanging it in a window. Then you will adhere the fabric pieces to the cotton following the traced design.

Great question! There are several ways to hang a quilt... (which would probably make a great video). Sometimes I create a hanging sleeve. Other times I simply hang my quilts with thumbtacks or with a poster hanger.

You don't score the fabric, just the paper from the Lite Steam a Seam 2. Scoring it allows you to peel it off easily ;)

Fussy cutting means cutting out elements of a fabric, like cutting out a flower or leaf.
