@@AndyCigars The funniest part to me, is her being so unlikeable as well so like Did she gain anything? Her son put her up in the best retirement community but she was also so unlikeable that nobody wanted to visit her, unless to deal with Tony. Whom she is responsible for and the one who is most critical of him, not for his actual crimes, but petty "slights" that didn't even happen. Anways Im Walt Whitman ova here.
So Livia faked dementia right there and then in order to cover herself if Tony ever found out about her part in his assassination attempt. Mother of the year!
Actually, I think she was kind of in and out of actual dementia. She had a lot of repressed emotions over Tony's dad, and being married to him really drove her crazy. I think as old age set in her mind finally started coming completely apart. Remember at the end Junior doesn't even remember being in the mafia, and barely remembers his own brother.
@@ManahManah77 Nah, it was strictly manipulation. She was entirely aware. That's the whole point. She was a misanthrope, but a narcissistic one - Machiavelli would have been proud.
"Your ear, it's disfigured!" Gee thanks for the comforting words mom Literally the first thing she says to her son after there was an attempt on his life. The show writers made her totally irredeemable.
I’m surprised how little respect the guys gave the Boss when he walked in. That should have been a red flag for Junior, that they knew he was involved.
It's sad watching this scene after the series ends. Look at how much love and respect there is between the guys for Tony. They all hate and fear him by the time it's over.
@John Lorton No references to The Sopranos. I imagine that there would be issues with copyrights due to HBO vs. Netflix. A number of former actors from Sopranos showed up from time to time in character, but with different names.
This scene is amazing. Chris spying on Tony, livia pretending to not know meadow, jun saying he's got all his guys looking for the black guys, and the kids all pretending like it's no big deal. The Sopranos was like a long, fucked up dream.
terribly. Its the only way I can get my sopranos fix, is by watching these clips. I wish I could remember what season and episode they were. I never watched it when it aired. I watched the entire series at one time, when I was really really sick and would love to see it again, now that I am healthy. :)
Bahahaha...Livia is such a gem. She's not in the room a minute before she starts acting senile to protect herself. Junior knows it too - the fucking look he gives her as she's "forgetting" who Meadow is. Priceless show.
I love how the guys are straight talking shit" about Uncle Junior like he can't hear them and then Junior turns around and they all raise their glasses and then Junior raised his hilarious lol 😂😂😂😂
Funny thing is, I think that's more or less the only on-screen interaction Junior has with the three of them. They share a few more scenes, but don't really interact at all.
I've always thought Junior played up the silly old fool act at times to avoid serious trouble because they all laugh and mock him like he's stupid and insignificant but he's lived until he's old there's a saying someone once told me "beware of an old man in a profession where men die young" which applies to Junior he's survived though a lot of shit which is probably a rarity in that world. One of my favourite scenes is where he plays Tony like a violin to get a decent percentage in a card game by mentioning his brother Ercole to mess with Tony's head
@@wickedwitchoftheeast88 That’s right! Unlike the others Junior may not as swift and agile, but also unlike the others he’s a survivor who made it to his sunset years.
@@polako256 fun fact, the character was created just for Steven Van Zandt cause it was his first acting job and he didn't want to take another actors job (he was coming to this straight from the east street band) after seeing how much his wife, an actress, struggled to find roles at times.
2:43 Paulie's classical "heheheh" laugh right before Uncle Jun turns to look at the guys. And Paulie keeps staring Junior with that same look until Meadow came with the Gabagool for Sil. Only a true gangster could act like Tony Sirico did several times in the show.
@@ramonalejandrosuare hahaha, love it! Frankly if that's not just coincidence, then it's just too damn smart for me! I want to believe they knew what they were doing.
the way Livia starts chewing on the gabagool LMAO that actress is such a gem I bet she was the funniest in the crew right after James Gandolfini I heard James was so funny everyone were always laughing when he was around
The acting throughout this series was so good, makes rewatching these scenes so awesome..... So many subtle lines added to the dialogue, like Silvio's "Who do we blame for the hat?" talking about Chris's fishing hat, and "Look at that face", Paulie talking about Meadow when she brings the gabagool over to them..... The writing had a lot of depth.
Chris' hat actually represents him being down the shore in Tom's River on Denny Najarians boat. Phenominal writing with great subtlety, without a doubt one of the greatest shows ever made
Democrat or Republican, white or black, straight or gay, rich or poor, there is one thing on which we all agree: that you need to bring the gabagool over here.
That smirk on Junior's face is priceless after Tony says "No alcohol for me." Junior's expression is pretty much saying "keep showing off MFer! You're lucky to be alive"
Wonder if Livia would have lasted longer if the actress wasn't sick in real life. She was such a strong character. The one person that could destroy Tony with one line or one look.
She would have lasted less time... Livia would apparently have been killed by the final episode of Season One but the actress already knew she was dying by that point and requested to keep working until the very end
I know this is an old comment but I want to clear that up for you. She was suppose to testify against Tony because those travel tickets she had were bought with dirty money. But the actress died so it was taken out
@@josecarranza7555 because it was something absolutely solid they had on Tony and has a corroborating witness to testify in his Mother. Enough to put Tony away for a few years and probably cause things to start falling around him.
Junior pretty much rats himself out the minute he walks in the room. "I got Mikey Palmice and all my crew out there crackin heads to find out who did this!" Riiiight, sure ya do Uncle Jun.. Your consigliere Mikey Palmice, the man who absolutely hates Tony's guts and has everything in the world to gain to see Tony dead is out there "crackin heads" trying to find out who did it.
That's how it really works man. Gotti did the same after killing Paul. T did the same about Ralph later on. Normally in the mob they used to say was you know who killed a guy b/c he'd buy the most flowers and give the most money. Also most of the time they get someone close to you to kill you. In real life there's been hits between father-son, uncles, nephews, brothers and cousins. The Gallo brothers tried to kill each other.
Dr Cunt damn i just finished season 1 and i really thought the dementia was real, especially when she showed up wandering around the Sopranos house in the night "not recognizing" Meadow and AJ
There’s quite a lot going on here for a 3-minute scene ostensibly about family visiting tony after surviving a hit: - firstly Chrissy comes in and potentially knows the hit men, which makes tony suspicious about what he’s doing in the ghetto (scoring heroin of course) - then uncle junior and his mother arrive while tony knows it was uncle junior who took out the hit, while Livia starts feigning dementia to cover her tracks - then father intintola arrives as if the priest of peace, even tho Tony has strong reason to suspect he’s a creep who wants a piece of his wife - Sil, Paulie and Chrissy then start semi-openly mocking Junior, showing how the power balance has truly shifted (especially after Paulie says when they find who's responsible they'll have two assholes) leaving Junior suspicious as to whether the crew know it was him It makes for a very rich scene but also shows why everyone in the mob world is so paranoid as everyone has an ulterior motive all of the time
You gotta be fucking kidding me. There's a reason it's considered the best show in television history...because it's NOTHING like any other show. If you couldn't figure out what they did with subtlety to add to the story or missed the unspoken significance that goes on throughout the whole show that gave you answers or moved along a story...that's just sad.
They are on edge because of what happened to Tony. Look at how Sil, Christopher, and Paulie react when the door bell rings and Paulie's face when he walks to the door. They know that the odds of anything happening at the house are small, but they have to be prepared and Tony picked Paulie to check and make sure it was nothing.
Son: "Hey Grandma! Did you hear? Dad fought off two black guys, one of them got shot in the head" Mom: "Why aren't you dressed for the dance?" - Typical Mob family conversation.
after jackie jrs funeral theyre at Arties having dinner, they show paulie and junior alone at a table talking while Tony walks up to them, paulie gets right up and walks away you don't hear what they were saying
Wow all these years I never thought about the interactions of Tonys crew with Jr personally. Granted they would have no real reason to talk to him or him with them. Also Jr is only called skipper one time in the entire show.
Actually, Paulie and Junior never having any interaction is kind of jarring, especially given their connection to Johnny Boy. But I guess they just never had anything in common and held some level of animosity.
Yes, I noticed that too. It was right after Sil said “they’ll wish they were never born” Sil threw out that subtle shot and Junior probably thought these guys knew he was involved.
They advertised more for coca cola and Dunkin doughnuts than anything..that's a fact...they were the only thing besides Tony soprano that appeared on every episode.....that's a fun fact
Actually, Chrissy was following Tony (secretly) and Chris car blocked the assassin's from killing Tony, they had an argument with Chrissy and Tony got away.
2:55, Mama Soprano playing like she's losing her memory to deny culpability in her role on her son's hit. Junior realizing she's leaving him holding the bag.
