Very nice records! The Victor Bat wing Label was used until about 1925. Round about that time when the era of electrical recording started, the new Label was introduced.

That place looks like heaven to me. That Louis Prima and Cab Calloway are real winners. I don’t collect 78’s, it’s just a rabbit hole I don’t want to go down, but glad someone is. I’ve heard stories that in the early days furniture stores sold those old 78 players since they were as big as furniture. So I guess they also sold records to go along

Hey, Jonathan! Just listened to both the Cab Calloway and Louis Prima records. They are great! The Prima record especially. I think you're right about the record/furniture stores. Brunswick started off manufacturing billiards tables and then branched out into lots of stuff, eventually making phonographs and records. Interesting the way our hobby intersects with so many other points in history. Thanks for watching and commenting! Skol, Jeff

Rum and Coca-Cola is my favorite Andrews Sisters song. And the flip side "One Meat Ball" is a funny novelty song

@@ToneInGrooves I don't have the right equipment to play 78s. But I'm a huge 45s collector. I have 14 crates full of 45s, big hits and the rare ones.

Did you say Anders sisters? And... When you take records out of the albums, you stand the whole book on end slightly opened, and lift them up vertically out of the sleeve ..or.. YOU'RE GONNA SNAP ALL THE EDGES OFF. I watched one u-tuber break his records on camera and left it in his video. I cannot anymore...

I saw this video when it was new but forgot to mention Grady Martin was a major session guitarist in Nashville in the '50s- '70s and ended his career by playing in Willie Nelson's band in the '80s- early '90s. Bing's records are well collated so you can find most of them in some form if yours break. Just A Little Loving was an Eddy Arnold song. Did Wisconsin have to close things again after this? Most shops in NYC, and there aren't many, were closed for many months and even now have entrance restrictions about how many people, can be inside, reduced open hours, and time limits on browsing.

I was really lucky to find a bunch of 78s at a thrift store. They made me a deal on them and I finished with 500-600, I haven’t finished cataloging yet, for $100. I love those little out-of-the-way shops!

Looks like a shop where I could spend all day digging! Wow! You must feature that Andrew Sisters One Meat Ball in an upcoming listening session. I am familiar with the song from a cover by Ry Cooder. Thanks for showing the haul.

Hey, Topper! One can definitely spend all day digging in that junk shop. Andrews Sisters, One Meat Ball...you go it! Will play that in a future Listening Session. Was not aware of the Ry Cooder cover. Will have to check that out. Thanks for watching and commenting. Skol! Jeff

Kelly Harrell’s My Name is John Johanna appears on the Harry Smith Anthology of American Folk Music, formerly put out by Folkways, now on Smithsonian Folkways. This anthology had a huge influence on the folk revival musicians of the 60s. Dylan took the melody from Harrell’s song used it for one of his songs.

Hello, Charlie! Thank you for the info on Kelly Harrell. It's a great record. Definitely old time country/folk. Putting together a country music-themed Shellac Stacks Listening Session and will feature that record as well as others. Thanks for watching and commenting! Skol, Jeff

Fantastic video, so jealous that you can get out and what a great junk shop... Always great to find a wish list one ;) My dream is to find some Victor scroll, but cant see that happening... Great various titles/genre... Well done, must play tea for two... ;)
@ToneInGrooves
@ToneInGrooves 4 года назад
Thanks, Chris! Victor scrolls...are the UK Victor labels the same as the USA? Batwing, Scroll, etc.? I'm just not familiar with the similarities or differences USA vs UK. Tea For Two...will put that in a future listening session video. Thanks for watching and commenting! Skol, Jeff

@@ToneInGrooves The few UK Victors I have found are quite modern no scrolling or bat wings and of course plenty of RCA's... I would have to import in and that would be expensive... Ah well, one lives and dreams... ;)

UK is still closed couple more weeks for non essential shopping (unless you buy vinyl dumbass at Walmart equivalent). Sad thing is with charity/goodwill closed by the dump all those things have gone to landfill never to be seen again ☹️
