Very nice job . love the design. All the little skulls are a fantastic touch. i'd use it as an indoor display tho . If you are only planning on a season or two outside thats fine but moisture will leak into your cardboard even with waterproofing and it will either mold or sink in on itself . XPS foam is what is commonly used and a bit pricey but it lasts years and years . Ask some construction places if they have scraps for free . I have some stones that are over 18 years old made out of it (just carved and acrylic craft painted , no waterproofing or top coat ) . They have held up thru every sort of weather imaginable and 3 moves. if you dont mind seeing the pvc on the back you could get away with using the 1/2 inch thickness of it. Gorilla glue the pvc on and cover with some spray foam to hide and secure them, paint over it if you want . a 4x8 ft piece yeilds 6-10 stones plus whatever scraps can be glued together and carved into another stone. I have at least 3 like that --my fav being patches the dog..lol .......old stones have cracks anyway .....good luck and keep creating....btw the foam isaddictive to use because you can make one so fast .

I love your tombstone! I do have a suggestion that you might want to try next time. I’ll dry brush with black first getting down into the crevices. If I get too overenthusiastic with the black shading, I’ll wipe it with a damp paper towel. After it’s dry it’s time to go back and dry brush it with white. I think it makes the detailed really pop.

Thanks a bunch. I have learned more about painting and do that on future props now. Unless I forget in the moment haha. So thank you great advice.

OMG 😲 😱! I'm starting my Halloween projects and wanted to build a tombstone of this shape and this is absolutely 💯 perfect and doable. I have the skulls,cardboard,pvc on hand. I'm excited to start this one. THANK YOU 😊 new subscriber

may i suggest XPS insulation board...you can cut it to any shape you want pretty easily (i use an exacto knife on the 1/2 inch ..tho 2 in better for tombstones) ... and all you have to do is embellish it and paint it with acrylic craft or non oil based house paint. if you want texture add some sand to your paint. you can also carve it. i have well over 50 tombstones and there are some very bizarre shapes that i would have never been able to make with cardboard....some are over 18 yrs old and just needed touched up this year . Its a little pricey $50 a 4x8 ft sheet but you get between 6-10 out of it depending on size and shape out of it and the scraps can be glued together for another stone... it lasts forever..literally , its foam ..lol oh and way faster drying time for the paint. obviously use what you have and can afford but i am all for saving time and energy . These would be good for indoor displays to avoid mold build up inside (thru the pvc)

Great job! It looks authentic and old! Do you think I could use dry lok instead of mortar? what is your preference? I wonder if they make the spar urethane in a matte look. I think that would look good too. Love the music!

I will have to try some dry lok. I haven’t tried that stuff yet. Yeah I tried to get a matte spar urethane maybe I will do more research and find something even better.

I was in Home Depot today, they didn’t have the exterior, matte spar varnish. I’m sure i Could get it online

I'm not sure if you did this but I think maybe you should have capped off the pipes on the inside so that humidity doesn't get inside your tombstone
@hauntedcorner6570
@hauntedcorner6570 5 лет назад
I actually tried to do that. I use hot glue to seal one side of the pvc pipe. For that reason. Hopefully I filled it all in.

I’m having a hard time getting anything to stick to the duck tape. Any suggestions??
@hauntedcorner6570
@hauntedcorner6570 2 года назад
Well it depends on what you are trying to connect to duck tape. Paper mache if it is big enough you can go around the duck tape. Hot glue sticks well enough but hot glue is always a bit easy to break off. You can always add white glue to paper mache mix to make it stick better. If you are trying to stick the concrete mix there is something called thin set mortar admix which makes the concrete stick to anything.
