Jurassic Park: Danger! Review - with Tom Vasel 

The designer or the publisher? Because the designer of Dead of Winter is also the designer of Dinosaur Island. He didn't need the license to create an amazing game. But the Dead of Winter publisher, Plaid Hat, specializes in making over-hyped and ultimately disappointing games, so it would be unfortunate if they had the Jurassic Park license.

I played Dinosaur Island and it wasn't really what I was looking for. Specifically I was thinking a crossroads game (probably cooperative) set in the Jurassic Park world where you're foraging, fighting and otherwise trying to survive an array of dangerous Dinos.

If you goofed up like that, yea Alan’s a dead man walking, so you’re kinda in deep trouble to get rid of Alan quickly

I am unsure on the matter on changes, maybe rule book notes to move around and warnings? Maybe means of randomizing who is who to strategically wonder who’s bait and who isn’t? Who’s important and keep in mind throwing their own charcater under the bus might get you out of a hopeless mess

Be fair, the number 3 comes up a lot: three buildings, 3 escaped humans or dead humans to end the game, 3 Dino’s, 15 tiles to shuffle around (3x5), 3 fixed tiles, not quite a multiple of 3 for playable characters but hey it comes up alot

Well they aren't really comparable as the only similarity is pretty much the theme. JPD is basically a survival type game that's pretty quick and easier to pull out and teach (making it more of a family style game). Dinosaur Island is a worker placement game where you're actually building the park with upgrades and employees, populating it by creating dinosaurs from DNA, and managing your security to keep your park visitors safe -- all while trying to get the most points to win. It's much more involved making it a gamer's game. It just really depends what you're in the mood for.

go for Dinosaur island. You wont regret

Already did. Didnt like it.

I really didn't enjoy Dino Island.That's not to say that everyone would feel like that but it was just so slow and the components were a let down for me.

Wrong. Dinosaurs can't camp. Dinosaures MUST move on their turn.

But Dinosaur Island deals mostly with the stuff in Jurassic Park we DON'T see - managing a park. The movies themselves are almost 100% about the parks going off the rails, and that's just a TINY part of Dinosaur Island.

dpotter2113 oh, you don' t understand. one. he played it, you don't. two. for him it was boring, but he knows that it's not a bad game and fans and mass market buyers will love it. or you think terra mystica is a bad game because he found it boring?

He flat says the game is fine, just as someone who games as much as him, he wants more options. Having also played it finally, the game is FAR from bad, it's pretty good in fact. You just have to remember it's also straight forward, so it's just a matter of how many choices you want to go over every turn. Too many games seem to forget that straight forward or simple doesn't mean bad, I've played games that were released with rules that flat don't work, making the game just a pile of cardboard. This all works and is pretty fun while doing it.
