He has contributed his learnings in keeping the mind and body fit through several books. He also helped setup the MRF pace foundation in India in the late 80s.
@muralinarasimhan3863 Dude, India is indebted? India? I m not doubting the contribution of Lillee for the success of this academy and Indian fast bowling but let's get the facts right. First of all u r totally ignoring the contribution and vision of fellow Indians like Ravi Mammen and many others for setting up/operations this academy and convinced Lillee to coach there (off course for a heavy fee). Secondly bowlers from all over the world (including many many foriegn greats like McGrath, Brett Lee, Md. Asif...) train there. Thirdly, you are ignoring the impact of Indian great pace bowlers like Kapil Dev on the next gen fast bowlers. Finally, Cricket is not the only sport Indians play. So first have some self respect and do little research before commenting anything on how/why Indians should be indebted to others.
@@singularsink you cannot drag jingoism into every argument mate! Typical of many Indians to say I paid him and he did the job for us! So where is indebtedness? I played cricket at reasonably good level like university district etc and have read lillee book on pace bowling? Do you know that leg cutter is probably the most difficult ball to bowl by a fast bowlers? I am not seeing many modern fast bowlers do that even now. You need to acknowledge greatness. I have personally seen lillee do 20 rounds of the chepauk when he was retired and our “ youngsters” struggling! And anyway it’s a figure of speech. So do not ventilate. We grew up in the streets of mylappre and we know our cricket!
@@muralinarasimhan3863 The Indians hate for Dennis Lillie is a disgrace if it wasn't for Lillie they will still be opening the bowling with Madan Lal and Abid Ali 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dennis lillees record speaks for it self , 355 wickets in just 70 matches so brilliant Averaged Over 5 wickets a test match , not many have done that in fast bowling In the world series cricket tour of west indies in 1978 In the sub contintent in 4 matches 24 wickets against the highest opposition West indies players all rated dennis lillie as the best of all fast bowlers Argument is closed
Because like all other fast bowlers, he refused to play in India to preserve his statistics. He far from the best. The best played on all kinds of pitches. The few time he toured India he was thrashed then he stopped going there to preserve stats!!!
How did he "refuse" to play in India, there was only 1 tour there in his career and he was playing for Packer at the time and not eligible for selection
5.07 wickets per match, the highest of any non spinner, just ahead of Richard Hadlee with 5.01 The most balls bowled per innings by a non spinner - 1) Alec Bedser 173 2) Graham McKenzie 156 3) Richard Hadlee 146 4) Dennis Lillee 140 No fast/medium bowler this century gets even close to those numbers, by comparison even Nathan Lyon averages only 138 balls per innings
Dennis Lillie was the first Australian pacer to equally weigh for the face off with English team or WestIndian attack, with great accuracy & pace….Great human being though! Thanks for the pick this time. Your narration is remarkable! Good luck!
Lillee, Marshel, Akram and Warne with Sobers as the all rounder is the perfect bowling lineup. A tall fast bowler who can move the ball both ways, with a great bouncer A short skiddy fast bowler who can move the ball both ways, with one of the deadliest bouncers The best left arm fast bowler, who could do it all The best spinner Adding Sobers, gives you two left arm pace men and a left and right arm spinner.
Hard to say. I think Marshall alongside Lillee, Hadlee and Imran were the greatest of that 70s-80s era. Amongst Aussie greats it would be between Davidson, Lindwall, Lillee and McGrath.
Denniss lillee best fast and swing bowler, I liked his rhythmic bowling action, Richard Hadleys of New Zealand bowling action was similar to that of lillee
May be generating so much pace with a jerky bowling action caused so many injuries to him. Thats why bowlers like mcgrath, imran, kapil, bothom, ambrose, walsh were able to have such a long and injure free career due to their simple and smooth bowling action. You dont want to over perform and strech out too much for consistancy is important too.
@@CricketStories007his dad was absolutely wrong and biased just as you are. Lillee was a good fast bowler of his era but clearly not the best or best ever. During and after his playing time there were number of fast bowlers who were way better than him both from stats perspective and impactful as well. To name a few Holding, Hadlee, Marshall, Imran, Waqar and Wasim.
He was not a complete fast bowler because never visited India and once visited Pakistan for a 3-test series, in first two tests he was wicketless and in the whole 3rd test he took only 3 wickets. In all in thay 3 test series he took only 3 wickets. He was good in bowling friendly wickets.
Not greatest fast bowler of all time.He took 3 wicket in 3test in Pakistan and never played test in India. Marshall and Akram are greatest fast bowler of all time.
Your joking right, probably one of the very best of all time. Also he was the architect of World Series Cricket with a conversation with Paul Hogan that went onto Kerry Packer and is now known as the World Cup and it was about fair pay for player's busting their gut for State and Country. World Series Cricket was then born. Where'd Cricket be now, really probably the most influential player in the game known still alive.
Ajanta Winslow Mendis is a better bowler than Deniss Lilee. Ajanta Mendis is simply the best. Dial M for Mendis. Ajanta Mendis is unplayable and he is a mystery man who bowls carrom ball but Deniss Lilee doesn't bowl. Ajanta Mendis is a threat to the batsman around the world nobody can tackle him.
Great, no doubt, but he did not prove himself, though he hardly played, in the Indian sub continent. Therefore, among the fast bowlers - Roberts, Marshall, Holding, Imran, Akram, Waqar easily score above Lillee!! Not including fast medium bowlers who have delivered in sub continent conditions.
"The complete fast bowler"!! That's a tall claim for a man who never endured the harsh fast bowling conditions in the sub-continent :) There is often a yardstick to judge Indian/sub-continent batsmen -- how well they performed on the fast bouncy pitches in Australia, SA, WI. Well, why the same yardstick not applied to these so-called greatest fast bowlers who never even toiled bowling on the dusty pitches in the sub-continent? So my response: Great bowler? No doubt. But greatest, most complete? Naaa...
Nope lillee was the influential bowler he invented swing bowling he was the first complete fast bowlers who could swing both ways and other variety deliveries like wasim akram.
Lillee vs Marshall.West Indies batting in Lillee's time was far superior to Australia's batting in Marshall's time.England batting in Lillee's time was slightly better than England's batting in Marshall's time. That's why Lillee wins.
Just facts Deniss lille average in asia is 68.33 and strike rate is 132.00. Still he is being called one of the greatest fast bowler biasness of highest quality imagine an asian player specially batsman with similar stats in SENA countries .
Good but grossly overrated, failed in conditions in conditions that didn't suit him. Ave of 100+ in Pak, 36 in SL. Wicketless in WI. 65% of his wickets came at home
Overhyped. He did not play in different conditions across the globe. Many bowlers came after him and during his time who were much more talented than him.
@@CricketStories007 the era might be different. But in the regard of length, swing and seam position of the ball james anderson seems far better then dennis lilee.
@@AdilEjaz-rk7be Wasim akram was the bowler who can bowl swinging towards the stumps. His deliveries to allan lamb, david fairbrother and chris lewis in '92 world cup final were swinging round towards stumps which is regard impossible deliveries and the master art of reverse swing deliveries. I think you should learn what is swing bowling first.
@syednafiunnoor2600 first of all you ask wasim akram even he wouldn't compare himself to dennis lillee and what your saying 92 world cup that England side wasn't good compare to Pakistan in the 92 world cup them 3 batsmen you named aren't even good any bowler would get them out
