Yes, Karl was right about Lobsters... the only way they die is to be eaten or when their carapace (shell) becomes so large that they lack the musculature to actually remove their exoskeleton during molting, then they starve. Lol, Sunday Brunch, your hosts are a bunch of idiots and so is the guy you have doing google searches during the show.
I could listen to Karl all day. The rest of the people on this show are just irritants, esp the Backshall dude. He's so nicey nice on tv shows, sadly I know what he's like irl. A massive player. Loves himself. Ugh.
Although they are still susceptible to death by disease or attacks, lobsters can theoretically live forever because getting older does not raise their chance of dying. An enzyme known as telomerase prevents the DNA in lobsters' cells from being damaged as they are replicated, scientist Simon Watt reports.8 Sep 2013
@@robmcnaughton1086 I wouldn't say that's awakened really and truly but the majority of the people on this video just from their expressions shows they have a low level of consciousness.
@Overlord Audiobooks I like how you say that making him look like some kind of a humane epitome... This guy literally thinks that old people are a burden on society, he had sincerely expressed some of the most fascistic ideas I've heard in my life. I love him, but don't make him look like an idol, because he is an idiot...
the thing about Karl is, whenever 2 people are around him - they automatically assume the ‘Ricky/Steve’ role. Except the only people who are good at being Ricky and Steve, are Ricky and Steve.
I was thinking the same thing, Ricky and Steve are at least his long time acquaintances so its not as insulting when they scrutinize his every sentence
@@BLAHBLAH-ib3mo I think it is, beside steve of course who is his actual friend, karl has said tons of times how he was conned by ricky, and that he wouldn't collab with him ever again karl seemed glad to finally get ricky off his back, and I don't think he is inclined to work with him again, at the end of the day I think karl's body language around ricky really tells just how much he hated it, and that the only reason he did so is because he was being paid to let ricky jerk him around for years
@@Marasma101 yea, I mean again its just something to keep in mind, I still enjoy it regardless, but not in the way that demeans karl as a person, just as a naive man idk again I don't think its something worth crying over, but if you watch the early radio shows, it is telling that ricky is really an asshole when they first met, and yrs later its no wonder why karl refuses to take anything rickey others he has learned over the years, ricky has taught our caveman karl too much good on him
@@redakdal Glad that Steve and Karl keep in touch at least. Their dynamic seemed more genuine to me (on a friendship level) when I listened through the pod. Can’t really put my finger on why. (And I obviously have no idea since I don’t know them) just a feeling
Seriously, Karl doing a nature style show where he goes and "meets" strange, weird and wonderful animals would be TV gold. The pandemic better be the only reason this hasn't happened yet lol.
I always find it strange the way they look at him like he’s an alien yet he’s the most real, down to earth person in the room whenever he’s on television.
I would honestly watch a programme where Steve Backshall and Karl Pilkington discuss animals. That said I would watch anything with Karl Pilkington in it
One of the most precious “celebrities” we have today, I say it like that as he is untouched by fame, honest, kind and although it sounds daft he speaks a lot of sense.
@@ratastewie91 if he was a comedian it would ruin what is so great about him, the fact he's just a normal guy. Ricky and Steve have said multiple times on podcasts and interviews that he is not a comedian, he's not an actor, he's just a normal guy who is extremely funny without even trying. Comedians try to be funny, it's their job.
The turtle story really just sums up Karl, he may not always think things through, and consequently does/says some ridiculous things, But it's all underpinned by empathy. He's just a genuinely decent bloke.
After listening to Karl talk about animals and insects endlessly on Xfm and have Ricky and Steve shout him down as if they’re experts, it’s nice to see Karl talk to an actual naturalist and bounce off of Steve Backshall.
They stated multiple times they would antagonize and disagree with Karl to get the best out of him. Ricky certainly could be a bit of a know-it-all to be sure, but it was mostly for their dynamic.
It was annoying though. Ricky would come out with the most ridiculous statements such as it's a well known fact that primates don't have opposable thumbs, when they do. So I agree with the OP. It didn't get the best out of Karl, it just made them look silly and interrupted this story telling.
@@angelkotilainen Ah, this is that thing I see happen often. People get attached to Karl, and lose sight of the fact that the three were best mates and chose to do hundreds of hours of material together. None of them are nearly as funny alone as they were in a group, with the aforementioned dynamic, in my opinion. So agree to disagree I suppose.
@@PikeBishop1 I think maybe steve was, but watching these karl clips over and over, to me clearly shows ricky saw karl as nothing more as a navie bald-headed man who he milked for all its work idk I like ricky, steve and karl, but lets be real in saying they weren't mates, they were co-workers/group that were together solely for the money, and again the best example is how karl moans when he does interviews with ricky and co for adverts for stuff like the hbo show he clearly doesn't want to be there idk again great show, great series, just hard to ignore how much karl had to go through to get where he is, I think karl is great, but I always feel as if ricky out of everyone, took advantage of him the most, and then dumped him when he moved on to other things
Any time he's on these programmes they try probe him to make him look stupid when actually he's having a genuine chat. Such a genuine nice bloke it seems.
"He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals" - Emmanuel Kant remember this too many people forget
"Put salt and pepper on and a dribble of olive and balsamic vinegar dressing (small bottle behind the cafetière). Remove quiche from oven. Cut into quarters, and put on plate. Eat."
A lot of people just use Karl for views and money. Ricky takes his jokes and uses them in his stand up routines as if they were his own. Karl's way too kind for his own good.
@@angelkotilainen I have noticed that too. I have been watching After Life, and some of Ricky's jokes and lines are either real things he has already mentioned on XFM, or monologues that sound suspiciously like something Karl would say. There is no doubt Ricky is good at what he does, but he seems to lack the creative imagination of many comedians.
OpenMusic comedy comes from real life mostly ..... it’s no different from sitcoms that are based on real people from the writers life .... Karl wouldn’t have had a single chance of being where he is now (pretty well known) without Ricky and Steve ... and I say that as somebody that wouldn’t listen to their XFM show without Karl on it
@@angelkotilainen That's actually very true, I hate how he's exploited as a 'media idiot' almost in the same vein as someone like Joey Essex. He's an extremely funny, clever guy with absolutely zero pretensions and interest in conformity. And an extremely round head.
@@openmusic3904 Most artists hit a creative roadblock, and Ricky got too comfortable playing up this 'atheist guy giving a middle finger to everyone' figure, and his work really suffered because of it.
The look on Karl's face when Backshall is talking is exactly what Gervais meant when he said "it's like a cat that can almost understand the conversation."
Don’t like seeing Karl in this sorta thing. I know he’s nervous. He’s the most funniest amazing person ever. He made Ricky. I still can’t go to bed without xfm in my ears!
He definitely didn't make ricky. Ricky and steve had already made a success of the office before they came back to XFM and met karl. I do agree that listening to the radio shows and podcasts is an excellent way to drift off tho
The reason people love Karl is he is the realest bloke on Tele/in entertainment. He never sought fame and has no pretensions about him, also he hasn’t got a bad bone in his body.
Karl's incredibly clever.. It's just the way his personality comes across and how it reflects on other people that make him look daft. Put him on a 'chat show' with a few professors and I'm sure you'd see a different side to him!
@@iconoptixx It is true, but not in the way you would expect. There is more than one way to skin a cat. In the same way there are ways to arrive at the truth, or the approximation of the truth other than through pure logic, which Karl lacks somewhat. Karl is very creative, imaginative, and intuitive, through that alone his 'hunches' lead him to some interesting and fairly accurate conclusions. Someone like Ricky, who is logical and analytical, would need all the facts placed right in front of him before he made any conclusions. Ricky would struggle to connect dots in the absence of cold hard fact, whereas someone like Karl can use his intuition to connect dots in the absence of facts. It doesn't always lead to completely accurate conclusions, but it leads to fairly accurate conclusions and at a much faster rate than someone like Ricky. Being logical and analytical, 'clever', is very useful for certain fields, but it does have it's limitations.
Wish Karl has been around when Johnny Carson was still on TV. Would have been able to have a laugh when appropriate, but also a very thoughtful interview with a very thoughtful person. (For non-Americans who do not know Johnny Carson, you can watch some of his old interviews - like those with Carl Sagan - on RU-vid. LIGHT YEARS better than anyone anywhere on television today.)
When ever Karl speaks to people they always assume he's bullshitting and i have no idea why. People think he acts dumb but in reality hes pretty smart, just shows it in a different way that is quite amusing.
Josh Widdecombe must be loving this considering he's best friends with James Acaster.... I can only imagine what James and Karl would be like in a room together! Talk about a classic scrape
Karl is a true Jain: Humble, loving, simple, appreciative of all life. Jainism if you don't know, is the earliest organized recognized religion. It pre-dates everything.
This is a good example to demonstrate how people deny information instinctively if they have never heard before. When you say something shocking, or unbelievable - we instinctively try to deny it. That's why you rationalise it with evidence and build upon previous knowledge that they have. Karl is quick to believe and less interested in details, hence he was unable to explain what type of lobster may be immortal and how they may remain immortal. He is more interested in the shock value and the moral of it, and the rest of them are interested in the rationale of it. Fascinating stuff!
That story with the immortal Jelly fish is literally what Karl was talking about on the Ricky Gervais show where When you die (at 75) you have a baby in you but it's you again as a baby haha
2:36 the charging symbol is displayed on Karl's phone despite it clearly not plugged into anything, meaning he must've taken a screenshot... of the photo already in his camera roll. TYPICAL Karl, hahahaha.
Karl was half-correct about Lobsters living forever, similar with crocodiles I believe. They dont die of old age, but diseases and injuries. In Lobsters it has an enzyme which stop cells from decaying when being re-grown.
1:59 4:20 Such an innocent question 4:56 I get the same reactions from people 5:15 The amazing thing is he was right. There is a type of jellyfish that is "technically" immortal. But lobsters live to 100. 6:10 6:35 7:10 That long-winded explanation just to prove Karl was right.
The thing about lobsters is half true. Lobster do tend to live long and the interesting part is that they continue to age continuously which isn’t normal to eukaryotic organisms. Most organisms quit aging at a certain point but lobsters tend to continuously age and can live centuries. However, they do die naturally. Often due to disease and predation.
