There's just no where else for those voters to go. If UKIP were still a real party I imagine they would have sucked up a lot of the conservative % by now. The incompetence is mindboggling with this lot. It is like a bunch of toddlers who have just walked into an operating theatre with a terminally ill patent on the table. "Clueless" is too much praise for this lot, because it would mean that if we gave them a clue these people may actually still add some value. I was born in 1963 to a father who smoked heavily and a mother who didn't smoke. He NEVER smoked in her car and DIDN'T smoke in his or any car if a child was in it. Mind you, he was a loving, kind and caring man and had not taken money from the tobacco lobby. This woman is cretinous and unfit for her post. We all know that, but Truss seems not to mind. She is also not aware of compassion, morals and values of good and decency, of the pains, struggles and desperation of disadvantage poor people, of the lack of dignity inflicted on them, by her and her party, who have widened the rich and poor divide. She is an oddball, who is incompetent and should never be in such position of authority. Remember, she sang 'I've had the time of my life' just an hour after she cut Universal Credit to the poor and working poor.
The most outrageous Coffeyism this week was the argument that the UK govt had done more than the French to help people with their energy bills. The French, of course, have a nationalized energy company (EDF) which has raised its prices only minimally (4% when I last looked), so the French govt. is taking a concealed "hit" for its population. The British government is actually paying out an enormous subsidy to private energy companies (on prices that have more than doubled), presumably including EDF itself. On this entirely stupid strategy Thérèse Coffey preens herself !!!
The British Govt are not 'actually paying out', the tax payers are. Do you really think that if it was their own money that they would wish to share it with the public? In any event, the energy payments will be dwarfed for many people by the increases in mortgage costs, or those costs being passed on within the private rented sector.
To get a clueless prime minister is unfortunate, to replace them with an even more clueless prime minister is unlikely to get a clueless deputy prime minister at the same time as an even more clueless prime minister is unforgivable. The Tory party need to take a good long look at themselves. They are no longer the conservative AND unionist party, they are no longer the party of fiscal responsibility and no longer the party of law and order. Why do they even exist anymore and why do we allow it?
