Personally when I watched it (a couple times) i felt like the story would've been suited better for a tv series, and it kinda felt like the love interest along with other characters need time Personally I think it would've been great it every song and the scenes around it were an episode each at the least, I could see lunchbox friends being an episode with the classic plot of the mc joining the popular girls before realizing how much it was overhyped and sucked

honestly i enjoyed the characters but it was clear she wanted to do more with them. i respect her work nevertheless and i hope the sequel that she's planning will give her a lot of breathing room.

it’s actually going through every year of school (k-12 kindergarten-12th grade) and every song has its own grade attached. in the beginning of the movie when crybaby and angelita are trying to find the classroom under the room number it says “first grade” and at the end during the 150th annual school dance leo says “i don’t think so seniors revealing that every song has its own grade attached. the songs have nothing to do with the grades but are only attached to the grades to go along with the story. everything else was correct in my eyes *!!!no hate just figured i’d say that!!!* Wheels on the Bus- kindergarten Class Fight- first grade The principal- second grade Show & Tell- third grade Nurses Office- fourth grade Drama Club- fifth grade strawberry shortcake- sixth grade lunchbox friends- seventh grade orange juice- eighth grade detention- ninth grade teachers pet- tenth grade hss- eleventh grade recess- twelfth grade

Your analysis put some things into perspective for me. Although i loved the movie, and could tell it was about addressing situations in the world, i couldn't tell it was specifically about America, and a few things went over my head. There's still some loose ends and such, but i still understand a bit better now. Now, for something only slightly related to the video, when i was in school i had a small incident with the Pledge of Allegiance. i touched on it in the chatroom when the video was ending/ had ended, but i didn't explain as fully as i wanted to. I was late for class, so i was rushing to get there. (i was on the second floor, can't remember why) and i ran past multiple students who were stopped for the pledge, and all of them gave me confused or cold stares, some even tried to stop me or call out to me, saying "you have to stop!" and "that's disrespectful!" i ignored them despite my anxiety since i hated being late to class. As i got into the hallway my classroom was in, a teacher or supervisor or some sort (didn't recognize her) tried to stop me. I can't remember what she said exactly, but i remember she loudly yelled something at me. I knew i couldn't be punished for not stopping, so i continued on my way. Once i got into my classroom the pledge was over, and i sat down. The lady walked into my classroom, looked at me and said some thing about how I shouldn't have done that and that both not stopping for the pledge and ignoring a teacher was a huge disrespect. I just said okay so she'd leave me alone.. after that, i refused to ever stand for the pledge. I got some comments towards me for it, but it wasn't too bad.

i feel like kelly stayed in the school because she doesn’t know how to live as an adult. same with a lot of popular kids

I love the way you look at things from such an open mind and general/large perspective. While you do add your opinions in there, you always look at things fr a general standpoint, for what they are, and I *love* that. I still remember the giddy feeling of finishing my homework just in time to make a snack, and sit down at the dining room table trying not to wake my parents with my squeals of happiness at 12 fucking am, just to watch the live premiere of k12! Mel is probably the only celeb I'll ever Stan this hard!❤️❤️❤️

My opinion on K-12: K-12 was badly written and made no sense towards the middle-end of the movie, things also happened way to fast making the story feel rushed and unenjoyable. All the “story” was a lead up for a song and sometimes it wasn’t even done well. Like at the part when Melanie finds a love letter and teachers pet plays. In the scene you’d expect Highschool Sweethearts to play or something along the lines of that. After Teachers pet they didn’t even mention what happened it was just like “oh wow you have a relationship with a teacher who’s literally manipulating you damn let me save you then do nothing about it afterwards”. Another example of K-12s shitty writing would be during lunchbox friends a fight breaks in the cafeteria, Crybaby and her friends proceeded to forget about the entire food fight and leave so they can add the other girl to their pack. This cuts to the bathroom where Kelly is forcing the other girl to throw up her food so she can be pretty. This then cuts to orange juice, after orange juice they forget the whole thing happened and are somehow friends ( and Kelly somehow does nothing about this????). The whole movie is basically just something happens and Crybaby “deals” with the situation by singing a song then they all immediately forget about it.

I honestly feel that during her 4 year break she just decided to let all of her emotions and opinion out not only through her album/movies but with herself too like compare K-12 era Melanie to Crybaby era Melanie and youll see she's no longer afraid or shy to speak up and lets us know whats on her mind and let people know "This is who I am and I'm not afraid to show it fuck you" and I don't blame her she's been through so fucking much despite being a young and somewhat new artist yet she was the target of many people "Oh she's weird" "she sexualizes babies" "she's a rapist" "she's an abelist" and a lot of the songs on the album show this (Detention and show and tell being obvious) but Melanie being the creative girl she is compares her struggles with the struggles of highschool so my take on it was Highschool was a metaphor for the music industry because she still needs to stick to the Crybaby storyline so she took the problems she was dealing with and compared it to the shit that happens in highschool but that's just my take on it I feel if she had a little more money the movie would've made sense.

Melanie, our creative genius should take the ideas she needed to cut in the film and put them into the (Possible) film for After School, that way we can see what she originally wanted in K-12.

I thought I was the only one who loved Kelly! She's a underrated character!

It's so refreshing to hear an explanation. I'm gonna be completely honest, I like the movie. K-12 has great potential. I absolutely adore the costumes, the songs, the settings, and the little slips of issues here and there. I remember being disappointed with the very loose plot and how rushed the whole movie feels. At that time I felt that the whole movie was not a movie but instead a 1 hour long music video. I am so glad to finally get to understand the message that the movie was trying to portray. I loved the film.The aesthetic,gorgeous. The music ,amazing. the choreography,inspiring. And I would’ve absolutely loved to watch three hours of that movie. Because her idea was so interesting but since she had to edit it they were white a few parts like Miss Harper and the whole goddess kind of I guess you could call them subplots that felt like they were not white what she wanted them to be and we’re kind of left dangling. I would absolutely love to see her either put out the full script, maybe make short stories or possibly picked up in later music videos. Tldr I’d love to see an expansion of the universe because it’s interesting and I want more.

Melanie Martinez theory: “Kelly’s mother”: we never see anyone’s parents other then crybaby’s passed out mother. The one thing that I want to tell everyone is about who might be Kelly’s mom, there are 2 girls who could be her mom. 1 mrs potatohead or 2 the pacify her girl. I thought mrs potato head because if you watch the movie when mrs Daphne was bringing Kelly and Crybaby to the principal Kelly says “ Be careful my mom SPENT good MONEY on these ears!” So that means she got plastic surgery at some point in her life. But mr and mrs potato head are burnet and in the music video for mrs potato head mr potato head leaves mrs potato head, so that could be Kelly’s insecurity, not having a father. But beacuse mr and mrs potato head are burnet and Kelly is blonde that just may take them out. 2: “The pacify her girl”/ Beth? Or Becky? Or something like that? (I’ll go with Becky) This theory makes sense as Becky wouldn’t mind Kelly bullying crybaby, Becky and Kelly have something’s in common 1. There both blonde 2. They both hate crybaby And 3. They both stole a love interest from crybaby. But if she went to a boarding school then Kelly’s mom got sick of her, Kelly is mean in the movie. There for spoiled and insecure. But Becky is with the blue boy. So that must mean if she isn’t blue and a blue boy is in this movie: Kelly has a brother. Because Becky doesn’t show up in that movie so she’s an adult. So the blue boy and her sent there CHILDREN to k-12. Kelly must have a hateful relationship with her brother. 1. There never appear together 2. They never talk They only have one thing in common: they bully crybaby That’s the only time they have a small kind of bond: bullying. So if mrs potato head never bullied anyone how do they get that streak other then not having a dad? There “mother” could be becky

I’d watch an entire series based on this to be honest. I have loved Melanie Martinez for so long, When I watched K-12 for a second time, I did so with my mother. She surprisingly enjoyed it! I think that the composition of the movie, though it jumps around a bit, shows how unexpected school and the media can be. The representation in this movie is so empowering.
