The absolute clarity and purity of her voice puts today’s artists to absolute shame. No autotune. Just a miraculous gift channeled directly from the depths of the universe. All of creation sits in her vocal chords and breath.
I am sorry but "best" is so overused....we have Celine, Shania, Joni Mitchell, Anne Murray to name a few!! KD Kang is great and we are proud she is a Canadian...but she is "one of our many best"....
I wouldn't restrict that to just Canadian singer. Her range, her vocalization, her passion...it's just gob smacking. Saw her twice live and I'd see her again if given the chance. I'm just sorry she's not out there any more.
@@KColes63Those other women are good, and some would even call a number of them great, but none of them has the sheer vocal power to infuse a song with passion the way K. D. does. Audiences don't just hear her music, they feel it.
KD is amongst a very ,very few vocalists that have perfect pitch, incredible range and control. Ive been following her from the start of her career and she is certainly one of the best vocalists I have ever heard.
@@jeanettekermaninejad5165 The highest possible compliment was Orbison asking Lang to do a duet of Crying with him. Obviously he was (rightly) impressed with her version of it. After Roy died, the family asked her to perform crying at his tribute.
She has a voice that is ethereal. To have that ability to capture that level of heartache from Roy Oberson's classic but then sign her own name to it is unbelievable.
Katy Lang is from Canada. This is a cover song of Roy Oberson‘s crying. She was the first openly lesbian singer to ever hit it big in America in the early 1990s. She has a lovely voice the music industry wasn’t kind to her. I remember when she came onto the sceneand she took old standards that my generation grew up and loved and put her touch to them, reviving our memories and keeping alive and entire generation of music for the younger generation. She has my utmost respect. Always will.
More than just a cover, KD Lang got her first big break in CW when Roy Orbison sought her out to sing a duet on one of his signature songs (Crying) in 1989. While her alternative lifestyle (came out as lesbian in 1989) was problematic to some CW fans at the time, in 1990 she still won the Grammy for Best Female Country vocalist and in 2002 was ranked No. 26 on CMT's 40 Greatest Women in Country Music.
She is a fantastic singer. Not only did she come out as gay and got a lot of backlash. Then she made a huge campaign about animal rights about “meat stinks “. Anyone from Canada knows Alberta is a the province known for a lot of cattle ranching and this didn’t go over well. I felt for her but I also felt she had a right to stick up for her opinions thoughts and feelings. Now both being gay and anti meat consumption is not a issue but it was rough times for her for a while
This woman is one of the finest singers in the world in my opinion. And not just her voice. Her style , her performance and her instinctive ability to portray emotion is captivating and mesmerising. . The guy hit the nail on the head with his reaction. K D is the epitome of of class.
Bingo!! She's a contralto like Cher, Karen Carpenter and Annie Lennox. She has a lovely smooth, rich vocal tone that equals Karen Carpenter's and knows just how to imbue emotions into a piece with subtle phrasing, and building as well as using her face and body to convey what she feels.
Years and years ago I remember hearing Miss Lang for the first time . I literally stopped in my tracks . The voice of an Angel . My goodness what a gift she has been blessed with .
Johnny Carson LOVED her. Brought him to tears more then once. He told her that she had an open invitation to come on his show whenever she wanted. I don't think he did that for many...if any...other singer. Another Canadian Talent. We're small but we turn out a lot of great music.I'm just saying! :)
There are a lot of great entertainers from Canada . . . but I'm not sure any of 'em top the Trailer Park Boys. Any country with a government that provides some of the funding for that show, has got to be one of greatest countries ever.
It's hard to find very many humans who are POWERHOUSES at vocals, AND so EMOTIVE, at the same time! This Lady can DO IT!! GLAD you listened to this one!! HUGS, POLO!
KD is one of the best Crooners of all time!!! I could listen to her all day. We need Her to become more active touring etc. Would have loved to hear her and George Michael duet on something, two amazing singers, Wow I can only Imagine .
Polo thank you thank you for playing KD Lang to man I’m just sitting here crying my eyes out the song is such great memories thank you thank you thank you you you’re sweet❤❤❤❤ and you got a pretty soft voice yourself
When my heart is breaking I turn to KD Lang to meet me where I am--she never disappoints. This is a ROY ORBISON song and their duet will make you drop to your knees "Polo."
My favorite rendition of K.D. singing 'Crying'. In this performance she gives me the feeling of someone with a broken heart trying to hold it together only to break out in wails of anguish when the memory becomes to much to bear. Lang's duet with Roy Orbison of 'Crying' is good, she holds back some to let Roy have the spotlight. I agree with other's here that "Constant Craving" is a must hear.
Constant craving is one of my favorite of her songs. I was a fan of hers way back in the 90’s.. maybe even earlier!! I don’t recall when her first albums hit the waves… but I played them often.
I agree @ziggymarlowe5654 that when KD and Roy Orbison sang "Crying" as a duet, she had held back, out of respect of course. After years had passed, with the advancements of technology, computers, the WWW, PC's, social sites offering more and more options on watching, and or listening, to music, different artists, broadcasts, podcasts stations, channels, then finally online venues of being able to listen and watch all different kinds of music genres and eras as well!! I was blown away when I saw this performance online shown on RU-vid, with KD singing "Crying" solo!! This tribute to Roy Orbison was very well thought out and the best choices made, the song and singer was 💯% spot on! I don't know if this tribute was televised/broadcast- when it was made? I think someone in the comments said 1996?, anyhow, I never saw this if it was on TV. 😢 Just here on RU-vid. Stunning, mesmerizing, emotional, powerfully charged performance!! Wow wow wow! Blown away...
I saw her at the Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary AB not long after Roy Orbison passed away, which wasn't too long after they had recorded a duet of Crying. It was a very emotional performance and in classic, old time, K.D. Lang style, she sang the song while laying on her back on the stage floor! My all time favourite female vocalist!
This woman has the most incredible vocals , you see her words in beautiful colours, and feel every gorgeous note .I have listened to her for 30 years and she just keeps getting better .
She may be the last of the great Torch Singers . She emotes the music , interpreting it differently all the time. A powerful vocalist but she takes us on a journey throughout the song. Her version of So in Love leaves me in tears . This is a Roy Orbison classic- A Beloved Artist
I love your reaction to kd and her voice! She definitely has a spectacular voice. May i suggest you listen to her rendition of Hallelujah at the 2010 Winter Olympics. You won't be disappointed.
I still get absolutely teary-eyed and completely in awe when I hear her sing the version from the 2010 Winter Olympics. It blew me away. She is a power house with an absolute beautiful voice. Truly a Canadian icon that I treasure.
You get it, Polo. The appreciation and awe you felt listening to k.d. was heartwarming. Her voice is spiritual perfection. Chills. Transporting me to a beautiful place. I’ve seen k.d. 20 times in concert, and I always leave uplifted …and charmed.
Kd is one of a kind - amazing talent and humble: an unusual combination. Her breathing control would creat envy in a swimmer.❤ Suggest you listen to Ella Fitzgerald sing “misty” and Sarah Vaughn sing almost anything. Two of the greats pre sixties, but Classics never die.❤
I imagine she rehearses extensively to develop a song with perfect emotion and style and delivery. She is absolutely the most invested female performer that exists. Beautiful moving and powerful range. Unmatched!
