I don't think Diluc couldn't accept it. I full well think Diluc can, but Kaeya told him at literally the WORST time ever. Diluc lost his dad, Diluc had to take his own dad's life. If Kaeya told him about it at a different time, I think he would have accepted it. At this point, I see Diluc having a hard time apologizing, or approaching the subject. Both Kaeya and him do. The two work in the same way in the sense of distancing from one another, and the world around them. They're both just...bad at emotions. Diluc cares for Kaeya, during Venti's story quest, you listen in to a conversation with Kaeya, Diluc and two adults (I believe in relation to the Dawn Winery) where Kaeya talks about how he threw away fathers legacy,. But then the two adults with them mention a beautiful vase (I believe at Dawn Winery) and it's heavily implied to be given to him by Kaeya, as seen by how dismissive about it, as if he's embarrassed and doesn't want to admit that he does care for Kaeya, and never stopped. The vase to me is symbolic of that. He could've gotten rid of everything in relation to Kaeya after his reveal of being a traitor, but he doesn't. EDIT: Ik she mentions a lot of this in her own video, but I wrote it pre-watch, or rather, some of it pre-watch

I personally think Kaeya won’t end up betraying Mondstat. He will likely go through a lot of angst due to this, but it would make him a far more densely developed character. I could explain, but I’m lazy, so you going to have to stick with plot development and opportunities in his relations as my reasoning.

It’s crazy that Mihoyo made one their starter characters tethered to the endgame of this story compared to any other character. I can’t wait to see how Kaeya’s story goes and the little hints of Kaeya coming from the eclipse dynasty adds a whole new depth to Kaeya’s mission- a prince with the entire burden of his people on his shoulders. He feels guilty because choosing Mondstadt would be the selfish option. Also I like your symbolic interpretation on Kaeya’s eye, but personally I think he has some crazy power under there. Maybe something protecting him from the curse that was inflicted on his people or something else entirely who knows.

Character Analysis of Kaeya: He is hot.

HOLY SHIT! AS A KAEYA MAIN YOU'VE NO IDEA HOW HAPPY I AM TO SEE THIS!! But seriously I really love Kaeya, he is an really amazing and interesting character, he is so incredibly strong in his lore, no wonder he's the Calvary Captain. The fact that Kaeya fought Diluc without his cryo vision just proves how strong he can be. I'm really sad Kaeya doesn't get as much love as the other characters since he's a free character. Honestly Kaeya is just as strong as Diluc in lore, I wish it was in game too. Maybe do one about Albedo too! There is so much mystery to him and he also has some relations with Khaenri'ah. Honestly just the whole Khaenri'ah's lore is so captivating. A nation destroyed by the gods, because they were thriving

Fun fact! The new Shadowy Husk: Standard Bearer enemy actually carries the symbol of the Royal house that once ruled over Kheanri'ah on it's flag. And wouldn't you know, Kaeya wears the exact same symbol on multiple parts of his clothing.

I always loved your character analysis way back when for danganronpa so i cant wait to see your take on genshin’s world! Knowing this I'm surprised kaeya is even a free character, he has a more interesting backstory than all of the other pkayable characters

It should be mentioned that an abyss mage we meet has the same name as a Lawrence noble from 500 years ago and we know the cursed blood can turn people into abyss monsters, so the abyss creatures don't have to 100% be khaenri'ah The hatred his father shown could have also been directed towards himself, maybe he has something different from other people Also it's possible that the abyss and remnants of khaenri'ah are 2 different factions

A really well thought out analysis! I do recommend checking out the chinese translations, because in my opinion, it allows us to have a clearer view of what Kaeya's character is like. Kaeya being called as an "agent" in his Eng Character Story, is not an exact translation? But rather Kaeya was described as pawn placed upon Mondstadt for Khaenriah's interests whatever that is. All in all, I really appreciate these kind of vids about Kaeya since, onion chars really give that ✨

Kaeya should've waited until later to reveal himself, imagine diluc still shocked about his father's death then kaeya drops a bigger bomb. I hope to see them get reunited in a future update Came from dish' stream! Thank you for making this video

Tbh I was so surprised when I saw this in my notifs- but it's nice to know you'll hopefully make more genshin videos :D

So here is the funny thing, a few weeks before we got that Dains quest we will be reunited I connected the dots of how Kaeya is similar to a cryo abyss mage(dude even has the fur of one on his coat), and then they revealed those are the people of khaenri'ah and i was like OH DANG WHAT? And then I saw the Prince Kaeya theory floating around and just.. I cannot WAIT until we get towards the end of Genshin and pray and hope Mihoyo doesn't forget what they have set up here with Kaeya because it's going to be amazing if they carry out his character more in the future.

Kaeya made me feel so bad for trying to get the treasure without talking to him first. In reality, I thought I could get it for him and surprise him with it. But he thought I was just going to take it for myself! 😭

Rosaria also has an interesting voice-over concerning Kaeya: "Wine has its uses... like revealing someone's true colors, for example. Smooth talk is Kaeya's veil, but being me, I can see right through it. Hah, you should see him when he's drunk." Very curious what he lets slip while he's drunk...

YOOO KAEYA??? i was not expecting this video! he’s my absolute favorite too, not only because he’s easy on the eyes, but also because his lore’s super interesting. i wouldn’t be opposed to you doing more deep dives on genshin characters like this 👀 there’s so much lore that i haven’t really seen discussed and it’s been such a shame to see people dismiss it as “trash” because it’s a gacha game and gacha games aren’t known for their stories

Just a fact: Kaeya from the lore is powerful and the manga he doesn't use cool steel (his sword name) he use ice constructs as his main weapon like throwing knife, if touch the field it would freeze the field.( not entirely but would freeze part were the ice constructs hit)

There are also two more things to point out when it comes to the Prince of Khaeneri'ah theory: 1. During one of the recent Archon quests, Paimon said that the Traveler's sibling may not actually be the one leading the order, leading us to think that instead, the abyss twin may just be the right hand or simply "substituting," for the real "ruler" whenever they're not there. 2. One of Kaeya's voice lines asks the Traveler if the Abyss Order is causing them trouble, and to tell him if something happened. Isn't it weird that the first thing that crosses his mind when it comes to the Traveler being bothered was the Abyss instead of the knights or another character that we know about? If that doesn't raise any theorists' attention, then I don't know what will.

I'm really bad at analysing stuff (up till now I was convinced that Kaeya's dad seriously left to buy grape juice....) but the lore of this game is sooo interesting I want to learn more about each character and the world of Teivat!! Thank you SO much for piecing facts together in my head~

I knew Teyvat and its characters reference a lot of real-life cultures, myths, etc., but I never heard about the myth with Alberich and Haegan before, so props for the thorough research! I think you did a really good job at breaking down Kaeya's character and piecing everything together; He was one of those characters that I was really intrigued by as I got to know him via his stories, but I have quite the difficult time putting into words what exactly connects point A to point B and what makes him a much more well-thought-out and interesting character because of it. Well in a recent event that was glossed over by many people (I myself even missed it), it was confirmed by a fee letters that Kaeya was a part of a noble house that advised the royals. It was stated that his family was chosen to step in as regents at some point confirming that Kaeya is indirectly royalty. Also in the event, Diluc damaged his eye during the fight, but it i is never stated why Kaeya still wore an eyepatch despite not losing his sight.

i'd like to think that kaeya goes to the winery to see diluc, and not just to drink and get drink i also totally agree on you with the attacks. his "q attack" or whatever its called is very close to the cyro abyss mage attack, where ice goes around them

8:45 Oh, interesting! I've never made that connection. But thinking about it now, one could even say that both Diluc and Kaeya's father were blinded by anger/hatred and the need to take revenge, both leaving Kaeya as a consequence (Kaeya's father leaving him more directly, whereas DIluc left for 4 years to) Also interestingly, Kaeya doesn't seem to hold grudges, at least he's not activly trying to take revenge. And I think it's because he's seen hatred and revenge destroy his closest people. Lastly, I think Crepus' death (+ all the things that transpired after it) affected Diluc much more, becasue it broke his good/bright but naive world view (basically everything he had known came crashing down), whereas Kaeya has know that the world is a cruel and unjust place from a very young age.

A few other interesting things is that his C1 is called Excellent Blood (which would refer to a royal bloodline) and that his Normal Attack talent has the name "Ceremonial Bladework", whereas all other melee Knights of Favonius have the name "Favonius Bladework". Referring to royal ceremonies perhaps. Oh and his namecard description implies that he is indeed not missing an eye but possibly has "an eye that never closes".

Would welcome more Genshin content. It is extremely addicting and the graphics, music, combat, lore, and overall gameplay is so good!

I like to figure things out about characters based on their names. So let’s see what we’ve got here! Kaeya’s first name can mean a ton of different things. Since Khaenri’ah seems to be largely based off of Norse/German myth, the closest I could find is a derivation of the Scandinavian word for “pure”, being “Kaia”. This is backed up by his fellow Khaenri’ahn Dainsleif’s name (“Dáinsleif” in Old Norse) translating into “dead legacy”, which is pretty darn on the nose. In Japanese, “Kaiya” is a name meaning “forgiveness” (although the Japanese version of the game changes his name to “Gaia”, which translates roughly into “victory”/“triumph”, notable for being what he writes in hilichurlian in that one side story with Venti [the whole “mi muhe ye” thing]). This is the closest to what his name would’ve meant in Chinese, too, since it directly reads as “Kǎiyà” (“凯亚”), and as far as I can tell (I don’t speak Chinese, so my translations are based on loose research and are likely off- please correct me if I am drastically wrong), the root prefix “Kǎi” means “triumphant”/“victorious” in general and the suffix “yà” has multiple meanings, but most notably “inferior/second to”… so it would mean something along the lines of “lesser victory”. That’s somewhat interesting. The only direct translation of his name that is could find using the same spelling (at least as in English), though, is Sanskrit, in which “Kaeya” is a feminine name presumably based off of the native keya plant, more commonly called screwpine, which is a spiny coastal tree that grows a fruit similar to pineapples. It is noteworthy for the fact that its flowers bloom during monsoon season, but only live for a single day (although the word is pronounced differently than Kaeya’s name). If you Google for the name meaning, you’ll find a lot of things saying it translates into “monsoon flower” in various Indian languages. That is false. This is the most I could find in that regard. Probably either the Scandinavian “pure” or the Chinese “lesser triumph” are the closest to accurate, just going in terms of lore (although he has a dark enough skin tone to possibly be the equivalent of indian or otherwise south asian. who knows). But I think that something more worth analyzing is the significance of Kaeya’s _last_ name. “Alberich” is a German name meaning “king of elves”- combining “alb” meaning “elf” or “magical/supernatural being” and “rih”, meaning “king” or “ruler”. Rather appropriate, considering that lore-wise, the Alberichs have been ruling as regents over a bunch of immortals for the past 500 years. In Germanic mythology, Alberich was the name of a sorcerer who guarded the treasure of the kingdom at Worms (referred to as the Nibelung Clan). He was noted to be very powerful and cunning, but also a mischievous and seductive personality who frequently pushed his luck by messing around with and testing his allies. He was trusted by his people and in spite of his manipulative nature, he only ever used his silver tongue in jest and remained a good guy all throughout. Sounds a little bit like Kaeya, doesn’t it? Well, guess who else sounds a little bit like Kaeya? Alberich’s son Hagen. “Hagen” translates into “shelter/enclosure” in German, but “chosen/exalted son” in Norse (where his name is instead given as Högni [meaning “protector”/“patron”] and interestingly enough, his sword is named Dáinsleif). In mythos, Hagen was a charismatic half-elven man who was described as being just as playful and sly as his father- only far more fearsome and ruthless. He was portrayed in both heroic and villainous lights, but all throughout, a few things remained the same: he was intelligent, he was skilled and respectable, he was fiercely loyal to whomever he deemed worthy in spite of his wariness, _and he had only one eye._ He lost the other in a fight against a Visigoth king. On that note, he was also the half-brother of the king of the Nibelungs, Gunther, through their shared elven mother. He was conceived and birthed while the queen’s husband, the then-current king, was away, and as an illegitimate child of royalty, he was given to Alberich to be raised in order to cover up the scandal. Hagen never made any claim to the throne, though, and as he grew up in fact came to be actually quite close with his half-brother, the crown prince. He turned into a formidable warrior and a leader on the battlefield, notably killing the hero Siegfried for insulting Gunther’s honor and going on to take and use his victim’s sword, Balmung, as his own. He became a vassal of Gunther after the latter became king and served him dutifully, also taking over as the Nibelungs’ treasure guard following Alberich’s death. When the forces of Atli (Attila the Hun?), the new husband of Siegfried’s former lover, invaded the kingdom and brought it down, Hagen and Gunther were the last two survivors of their Clan. Hagen was critically injured while defending Gunther and interrogated at bladepoint on the location of the treasure, but he defiantly refused to say a word while his king still lived. This resulted in Gunther being killed in front of him in an effort to force him to talk, but he only laughed in the face of death and reasserted that the treasure was safe now, because they would’ve had better luck getting the information from Gunther and now the knowledge would die with him. Atli then disarmed him and beheaded him with his own sword (Balmung) in anger, making him the very last of his people to die. In the Wagnerian opera Götterdämmerung, though, some spins are taken with Hagen’s character. He’s the bad guy of the story and while he’s initially tight with Gunther, Alberich pushes him to turn on his king and take what he has. So under his father’s influence, Hagen starts to take advantage of Gunther and just generally be shady, and when the actual backstab comes in the form of stealing back one of Alberich’s old treasures, a fight breaks out in which Hagen actually kills Gunther. Worth noting is that Hagen never tries to seize power for himself despite having a solid claim to it. But personality? Check. Sketchy background? Check. Weird eye situation? Check. Brother drama? Check. Foreshadowing? Maybe. I hope not. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk.

As someone who’s Chinese, glacial heart is still called “heart of icy abyss”, so there’s that XD Now hilichurls are revealed to canonically be ex khaenriahns, and also all four khaenriahns we’ve seen, Kaeya, dainsleif, halfdan and pierro all have diamond (the genshin wiki describes it as “primogem shaped”) eyes, and the three who are still alive have their right eyes/ right side of their face covered. Which is very sus.

What I find interesting is that after Kaeya and Diluc had their fight, Diluc left and investigated the Abyss Order. I can't shake the thought that it's related to Kaeya and his ties to Khaenri'ah. Maybe he wants to find a solution to the difficult situation Kaeya is in, or he needs more information before he can decide if he really betrayed Mond or not. In the Chasm we got the confirmation that the creatures from the abyss (and also hilichurls) are what's left of the people of Khaenri'ah after centuries of curse. I wouldn't be surprised if Diluc made this connection and that further in the storyline their arcs intermingle again. Part of me hopes that they'll unite against a greater threat (Celestia) but part of me also fears that Kaeya has to die and that Diluc will be the one who has to do it. I hope they get their reconciliation before that.
