About the region locked materials, I think a good solution would be to have an NPC or something offering, let's say, a Perpetual Heart in exchange of 3 or 5 or something like that of Everflame Seed or whatever especific items you have in the regions you have unlock and remove this option once you get to the region where the item you need is. This will allow you to level up any character regardless of when you start playing while keeping attractive the idea of getting to new regions and explore them because of the cost of wasting a large amount of still valuable items
THIS! and basing along the story, the sakuko(pardon my spelling) has been recently lifted and inazuma is now accessable to other regions so this might actually work!
@@RegularOne-g4w This is still a plot point you have to unlock through the story by doing Ei's second quest though. If anything, the sakoku decree should be a good reason why the price is so high
Cyrus from the adventure guild maybe? Or anyone from the adventure guild but Cyrus is the guild leader so it makes sense to me Also that’s a great idea. New players won’t abuse it as much because of resin waste for them while new players don’t have to worry about artifact grinding in those earlier stages. 👍
This would be a nice option because the issue isn't just for new players. The returning player experience also suffers for this. I took a several month break, pulled shenhe and Yae, and then lost most motivation to play again after realizing I had hours of story content to push through before I could even start farming the materials to build these characters. But I have tons of older mats I would happily convert for them.
As a relatively new player, one thing I was annoyed about was events being locked behind archon quests. It feels bad to know I'm missing out but can't possibly catch up in time :c
They should let the events available after with maybe reduced rewards!! I don’t want to rush through the stories to get to the event but I don’t want to miss out too 😭
@@WeiYinChan or maybe they can just give early access + equal rewards like honkai, they let you decide by yourself whether you want to do new main story events(those that would normally be locked) for the patch of its release, though the problem with implementing this in genshin is if it’s in locked regions Which is why I really feel genshin in its entirety is flawed and not well-planned, the decision to let elements dictate attack/skill animations’ colors also limits potential in character skins
I started playing in early December, and the biggest new-player-pain I've felt is missing past events, especially those that contained lore or event-exclusive weapons. I was so happy to pull Albedo at the end of his banner, but I was too low AR to do his event and snag a Cinnabar Spindle. Now at AR48 it pains me so much having absolutely no possible way to get him his best-in-slot weapon : /
Same, I was so far behind for his event too. I rushed to catch up and played way too much during the last like four days of the event to just barely get his sword. But I still feel guilty because I have no way of refining it and making it better for him. Plus, all the talk of the first lantern rite event left me feeling kind of hollow during the second one. Like, I was just constantly being reminded that I was excluded by default from the original's experience.
Oh my i just started playing at the last week of itto's banner and im at ar 45 i did not finished the quest you needed to do before the enkanomiya event and im trying to take longer breaks... im in pain
This was me but with Festering Desire lmao. I still get the weapon but it stuck at r1 forever and it pains me so much because it's such a good and versatile weapon that could fit many characters. Not to mention I don't have many good swords.
When my friend first started playing Genshin he got Yoimiya in his first ten pull on the event banner. Then a few days later he spam messaged me asking if I knew where her materials were because he wanted to ascend her as she was his favourite character. I had to explain that he needed to get to the Inazuma archon quest in order to unlock the bosses and materials. By the time he reached there he had already gotten more characters and had already gotten them to higher levels, now he’s given up trying to use Yoimiya and she’s stuck on his account at level 20. This kinda made me realise the ‘new player lockout’ issue and kinda makes me nervous that people who start playing genshin when Shneznaya is released and get a character who needs Scheznaya materials might have to wait till probably AR 40 at least to get their materials. Genshin really needs to add a way to fix this otherwise new people will be discouraged from playing!
I dont think the other regions will be locked behind AR(exeption AR 30 since you need AR 30 to get inazuma), since that would just make the AR way too high to go for, but rather quests or time.
"when Shneznaya is released and get a character who needs Scheznaya materials might have to wait till probably AR 40 at least to get their materials." you mean AR55
Honestly the new player lockout is such a nightmare I can easily see newbies quitting and I can't exactly blame them I didn't realise how bad it was until I made an alt and got Yae Miko but can't level her til I get to enkonomiya so she's just stupidly weak in contrast to the rest of the 4 stars in my account They've gotta address this soon before it becomes a bigger problem
Also the mail rewards for new players right now it's so low compare when the game first release makes it Unjoyable because u don't have many characters
I’ve been playing for like 6 months and still feel like I’m locked out in a difference sense. Seems like every quest I try to do has a pre requisite where quest NPCs are stuck in other quest lines. It’s infuriating trying to catch up when I’m forced to do a quest just to do a quest with limited play time.
They somewhat addressed it during Inazuma release where they give character level up material after completing the trials. They should also give boss drops from there as well.
I replayed Genshin during Itto’s banner, and I got him, and was so excited to use him cause I thought he was so cool, then I realised his ascension materials aren’t found anywhere until the archon quests 😭
I liked how Mondstadt and Liyue were close enough that you can walk to Liyue even at a low AR level. I was shocked when Inazuma first came out because you had to progress in the story in order to get there and to explore more than the first island
Hopefully the other nations will be alot like liyue and mondstadt, this is the only one that makes sense being locked behind quests, because inazuma was a locked down nation due to raidens obsession with eternity. In order to get to inazuma you literally had to get onto the alcor and sneak into inazuma. same with getting off the first island, you had to sneak off of it. so for inazuma it makes sense but for the other regions it most likely won't.
@@violetspersonalaccount.2344 fr, i don't see ANYONE talking about this and it makes me kinda tilted. inazuma will almost -definitely- be the only region landlocked the way it is, other regions will still be reachable like liyue. I don't buy the "landlocked material oh no" issue in anyway whatsoever.
U know how theres the "try out" character section, when banners come out, and the "rewards" that are the materials for the character to lvl up 1st time, what if they just increased the item number on the rewards? ( just increasing thr rewards) Think that would work, but your idea seems more plausible lol
would make people to just not care about going to farm u could just trade all your items from mondstadt that u never use for the new characters materials and never have to farm them couse u have like 2200 slimes in your inventory XD but would be possible just depends on the more specific parts. like what u trade for what and stuff like that. personaly i would like a trade system managed by the adventurers guild for players to trade stuff with other players. that way u can send your high lvl friends to farm for u. (if u have any) XD
I suggest introducing an item similar to Dream Solvent. Early Bosses like the Anemo Hypostasis, or Cryo Regisvine, can drop an item similar to Dream Solvent that can convert the drop Material of that boss to the drop material of future Bosses so newer players can still use the new characters without having to speedrun the game to reach the new location. The same can go for regional specialties, that can only be found in specific regions. We need a way, to convert those materials in the alchemy table to make a regional specialty from other regions.
Well the monster materials and plant based region mats are still locked so that wouldn't solve the issues fully Even then if we have that it'll most likely either be RNG based (again) to obtain it or it's P2W either way still sucks for those new F2P
i think the dust of azoth mechanic would be better since dream solvent isnt that much of a common drop but the new drop will let us change the materials of the same element only maybe?
There was a time where they made all of Kazuhas ascension materials available in a temporary area before it was moved to inazuma. If they just adopt that strategy once in a while they could allow players to redeem character specific materials within the temporary event area at the same time the banner is up. A smaller version of this could simply be to add sidequests that happen to have you fight certain bosses much in the same way as the electro hypostasis is fought in 3 different locations (despite only giving rewards in one). Rebuilding the jade chamber actually rewards you with Shenhe materials so the same can be done to sidequest rewards. It wont be a lot but it's just a little to give a few more levels before you get to farm the actual boss. After all at a certain level you will already have a high enough AR to already have access to the resources you need. Plus its not likely you'll have multiple characters requiring those materials so its not like it takes away from the grind or leaves you thinking how to spend it.
They can just add a universal domain where we can choose the boss monster and battle it for their material when ever neccesary. The domain can also simulate the same environment as that of the original location of the bosses which can serve as a way to attract players to explore the original location at a later point of time out of curiosity.
the problem with this was, it was the first golden apple archipelago, where you were able to prefarm his materials, before inazuma was released. but those bigger events are all locked to arank 25 or higher and need archon quest progression. for the first golden apple archipelago, you had to do klees quest first, which you only unlocked on arank 30. so new players will always get notifications about those events happening at the moment, yet they wont be able to participate to get those items and rewards. an option to fix this could be a free domain test trial in combination to the character test trial where you have to defeat a boss to get level up materials, which you can do once a day and only as long as the banner is active. or what suraj vinod suggested above, which also is a great idea. in addition, there are 2 girls in mondstadt that sell flowers. including some flowers from other regions which you can buy a limited stock per week should not be that hard for hoyoverse to implement. they do have enough options to tackle this issue, we just didnt hear anything about it yet.
I think there are 3 super easy solutions for this problem -make a npc that you can exchange boss drops for one boss to another -making coop available for lower level players rather them needing to be the same world level, so that lower level players can have higher level players help them farm for the drops in the higher level players world -introduce a trade system/ a quest system where players can submit a request and other players can accept them for a reward
In my opinion the third could be a huge deal, since it'll not only make it easier for new players, but also make coop more interesting plus it would kinda solve the prob of older players having nothing to do
Last one has many I mean many problems, because trading system is essentially ran by the players which gives waaayy more chances for error . Take some roblox games for example trading creates problems such as duping and newbies being scammed. Npc solves that problem by a lot since there’s basically no way to cheat an Npc right? I’m just hoping that you aren’t some toxic guy who will degrade me for sharing my opinion lol 😀
@@ilikeudonnoodles ah i see your point but i feel like it should be an equal trade, like one boss drop for another of equal value Or even a request system where you set a request like "3 boss mats" and the game will evaluate the corresponding reward equal to the request "10 primogems, 3 exp books, 10k mora" something like that. That way there is no way to acctually "cheat the system"
@@gamezr4losers i'm not sure, from how i picture it, things could go sour real quick, by either it being exploited, or no players cared to do that. If the rewards are tempting like for example primogems, players will tend to exploit that system (this ofc can be fixed by limiting it on daily/weekly basis, not sure...). On the other hand, if the reward is not really that great, people just won't even bother taking those requests. The ones that probably would take the requests are: 1. Acquaintance 2. Those that have an abundance of the said materials 3. Those that actually want to help others Don't get me wrong, I do like that kind of approach since it really reminds me of Honkai Impact 3rd's Armada (Guild) Donate System, and from what I can tell in my Armada, everyone always donate things to each other at the first request they see, so I can see the potential...
I’m more concerned about the quest lockouts. Once you get to a certain AR, there should be a bank of past events that you can play. And they would slowly be unlocked according to your story progression. (Just like how there are separate pages for character events & hangouts in the quest menu.) I missed out on a bunch of events when I first started playing last year… & it was so frustrating to log on, see the pretty event pages and not be able to participate whatsoever. - Players are not only missing out on the experience and limited items, but they’re also missing out on so much lore/character development. So at least let players experience them _eventually_ instead of not at all.
@@yuarentlucky but that's like saying you missed a lot of things before you became aware of it, or before you were born. like...sure...but there's still so much ahead as well. enjoy the parts of the game that are yet to come :)
Feel this so much. It’s incredibly hard to get decent five stars assuming you start playing at a random time. I was lucky enough to get Ganyu when she was released along Zhongyi.
/uh, I think this video is more of "what happens if a player gets a 5 star but cant get their ascension mats" kinda thing. Although, your comment would be a nice video
@Sajedul Haque Ruhan Bruh I think the person means that it was lucky to get Ganyu as a new player because she needs Liyue ascension mats and they are accessible - and that's what this video is about
same ! I'm lucky that my first 5 star was hu tao so I could ascend her and make her do damage... imagine if I got raiden shogun or smtn ( I joined during raidens banner )
Keep your characters at lvl 40 until Enkanomiya is not a big issue. It is easy to clear in one week without rushing the content. Most of “old” players want to lvl 90 their new characters and maybe triple crown them on day 1 but this is not needed for a new player who got his Yae or Shenhe on his 1st hours of playing Genshin. I haven’t see any new player complaining about that btw. I am sure that HoyoVerse will find a solution for further characters from other area so stop complaining about that and let’s wait and see.
Another thing that has heavily contributed to new-player-lockout in my experience have been the limited time events. They often offer significant amounts of content in terms of both rewards and lore or story, as well as exploration. First off, if you're a new player you've already missed out on over a dozen of these important pieces of content. Second off, they are also often locked behind certain AR levels or story progression, or even take place in specific areas, all of which encourage new players to rush through the early game in order to at least not miss out on the current events.
I started playing at about 1.5, _well_ after that one event featuring Fischl & Mona. Anything that came from that event, I know jack all about (which might even include a certain someone's real name, but I have no idea).
they need to have more events running at the same time, like a mondstadt event for lower players and an inazuma/sumeru/whatever one for higher ones, or just allow new ppl to play past events (or at least read the dialogue) like some other games do
On top of that, 80% of them are lore important. Example, (Chalk prince event, Eula & Albedo event, Mona & Fischl's astrology event, the current Enkanomiya event, Moonchase Festival (as it shows more of Xiangling and Keqing's personalities), Xiyan and Childe's battle shrine event and so on and so on) All of these are important for characters that rarely appear in main story or str8 up lore points.
What I've seen another gacha do with that issue is to release the event as a permanent feature some months later, but with less attractive/harder to obtain rewards. I fail to see why they don't do that here.
It boggles my mind when Shenhe needs ascension materials from Inazuma. The Cryo Hypostasis is an underutilized boss that so few characters need it to ascend. The same could be said for Yunjin. This basically sets the path for future new characters to need ascension materials from different regions if they are released later. Imagine if Grand Master Varka is a playable character and needs ascension material from whichever region is latest at that time.
it saddens me to see the cryo hypostasis being basically only a world boss for eula (aloy doesn't really count as genshin character), and I'm still confused to this day about the choice in giving shenhe a world boss from inazuma rather than the cryo hypostasis, because she's a liyue character and dragonspine is between mondstadt and liyue and it would make much more sense
Maybe they can add a banner for each region, and when you START an archon quest, you unlock that region banner, so that new players will start with the characters that were firstly added and then as time progresses, they will introduced to all the characters
This is my thought as well. This would also prevent confusion as to "wait... who is this character?" and not meeting them in the story for another 3 countries.
This exact thing happened to me with Shenhe. I started last November and I've been deliberately slow playing through the story to really take in and enjoy each region. I was just reaching Liyue when Shenhe dropped and I managed to pull her. I was so excited to play through Liyue with a region appropriate character only to be disappointed to find that her upgrade material was in Inazuma for some reason. By the time I got the materials to upgrade her all my excitement was gone and I've barely used her at all.
@@coloringbunnies1273 Someone really needs to send this to Genshin Surveys. I see no reason for Mihoyo to refuse since it's to their benefit as well, like the Dream Solvent
@@coloringbunnies1273 Well apparently it's not enough. Someone needs to do it again. I've been playing since 1.0, and I loved it. I was instantly hooked, and I want new players to enjoy it too. As a matter of fact, I think even veteran players can benefit from it. It's win-win for everyone. Including Mihoyo
Same I was able to get shenhe right after I unlocked inazuma and leveled her until 50 and then after that she was completely useless since at the time I haven't unlocked Ekanomiya so I couldn't get the required materials so I can assend her so she's been at that level ever since
@@anonymousrex2379 I've done two surveys to them. Both times I've mentioned how cool the story and characters are and how I wish I'd eventually be able to play through story details despite joining later, and that regional locked characters sucks (my first 10 roll gave me Thoma and Sara), and something should be done before they progress much further with regions, always suggesting at least a special merchant as a possible solution.
The problem you’re describing is exactly what I experienced when I started playing. I picked up Genshin at the tail end of Yoimiya’s banner and she was my first 5 star unit. When I got her I was pretty excited because she was a main DPS unit and could carry me through the game. And then I realized I had to get through 3 regions to level her. I had to blitz through the content as fast as possible to utilize her the way I wanted, and I can tell you I have barely paid attention to the lore in Liyue and Mondstadt as a consequence. Which is a shame, cuz going back to revisit it made me realize there was a lot of really interesting nooks and crannies I missed.
@@momoducc3911 Well let's not bullshit. The whole point of the game is to get you to buy into the 5* unit at the end of the day. No friggin way would I blame someone for rushing through content to actually play the character they got from a banner. Sure, you could say not paying attention is the OP's fault and maybe they should take their time, but if you're gonna tell me it's not what most people do when they get a good new unit, you're lying.
@@donteo508 If you're new to the game and let's say you got Shenhe, you can level her up to 40 with the use of the trial rewards and even up to 50 if you complete the Divine Damsel of Devastation quest. Even then, playing the game with a low level character and with low AR is perfectly easy. You will experience no problem in using them because Genshin in itself is one of the easiest RPG-like game you can ever play. You can literally play through most of the early game with only playing the characters you like without thinking of meta or artifacts or talents. By the time you reach a higher AR, that's when you need to start building your characters.. but that's also the time where most players are in Inazuma so....
@@momoducc3911 Unless you're very skilled a level 40 or 50 unit isn't going to carry you throughout the Inazuma quest. And for obvious reasons new players aren't going to be in that small amount of people that can pull it off. There's also the matter that the higher your AR is the stronger enemies get, so if a new player is experiencing the story of the game slowly and at their own pace, they might end up at AR 40 or above before getting to Inazuma, which would make overworld bosses/enemies out level their level 40-50 units fairly quickly.
@@katybcat8286 You do realize there are 4 characters in a team, right? Most of them usually being 4-star characters. You guys are acting as if these new players would be soloing with Shenhe. That's why level caps exist. Literally, just don't do the ascension quest. Even if they do manage to complete their ascension quest, then it proves that their team is strong enough because that's the whole point of the domain - to test if you are ready for more higher leveled enemies.
I remember in Monster Hunter 4u, you could gather parts and trade them to an explorer to get monster materials from monsters not featured in the game. Imagine if there was a trader in Mondstadt who would offer you a (limited) number of items per week in exchange for equivalent drops and some mora. It wouldn't be enough to replace farming directly, but would be enough to allow a new player to maybe get their character to level 40-50 without having to unlock every single area first. And he'd only carry up to mid-tier items--talent books in particular only need to go up to the silver books, as the gold ones are only usable at higher levels, when you'd have all domains unlocked. This could work as a stop gap for new players until they unlock the new areas, and can pivot to directly farming. As for banners, I've wondered what it'd be like if they had multiple banners, one for each region, that treated any 5-stars that have been out for a while as permanent characters. I don't think it's necessary to keep characters event exclusive for so long after their initial run. Also, it's kinda sad how bad the new player experience is, when you also consider that there's so little end game content too.
This is exactly what I thought could be used for this!! Specially since you don't normally level your characters to the max until you're like adventure rank level 40 or up, which then wouldn't make it so that the process of exploration would feel meaningless for you in the end
i agree with everythinh except making limited banner 5*s permanent. frequent reruns are doable, and one featured 5* per region every patch is also doable, but they literally cannot make any character released as a limited 5* into a permanent one. that's illegal, especially since this is a gacha game. consumer laws still gotta protect the consumer somehow.
@@emopeterparker7 every other gacha game moves event characters into the permanent banners after their initial run, immediately at that. Literally how does making old characters available permanently infringe on consumer protections? If anything it'd do the opposite.
@@emopeterparker7wait, how is it illegal? That's what a lot of other gachas do. And how is adding old characters into the permanent pool detrimental to the consumers?
This problem makes me sad because it’s not only a problem for players who don’t wanna go through all the story to be able to ascend their characters, it’s Also a problem for the players who Like the story and wanna take their time with it but. Also wanna ascend their characters. Like for me, I got Yae Miko, and I love her, but I can’t ascend her until I get to enkanomiya, but I love the story, I don’t wanna rush myself through it, i wanna be able to enjoy it, and that’s kinda hard when there’s an incentive to just not pay attention to it so I can actually play with one of my favorite characters to use...
I mean, i get that people don't read the story quests, but guys it was always stated that it was only inazuma to be locked, if the story about "region locked by quest" was real, you wouldn't have the possibility to go to liyue in the first 10 mins of the game,
the popular suggestion seems to be to have a “traveling merchant” npc which i also agree with. i also think they should do what fgo does which is put the ascension mats in event shops. event shops currently are kinda a wasteland
I agree but I think we should balance it a little bit . If we don’t balance it then player would just go to regisvine , beat the living tree out of it and get all the material they need . I think that there should be a exchange system like 3-2 boss material for a specific boss material you need or we could use resin like 1 boss material for 30 resin .
@@applel2.043 Making new players pay any amount of resin for 1 boss material only is cruel punishment tbf. Limit it? Sure, but with resin being as ludicrously scarce as it is. New players (especially if their new to the gacha/adventure genre) should be able to reach Inazuma~ onwards in 2 months. And till then they can use the merchant to help stem the bleeding
@@EC-rk2zl That wouldn’t really solve problems as limiting resource for player to buy would just make people can’t upgrade their character and that isn’t even assuming dolphin who get the 2 limited character . At ar 55 (which will probably took you about more than 2 month at least ) , you can get 2-3 material(it ratio is like 30:70) with 40 resin after a fight . At my merchant idea , you get 2 material for 60 resin without fighting . The reason why I make it unfair is because this would encourage player to fight the boss and don’t relies on the merchant too much because resin efficiency and beside , it not even that unfair . Let me remind you that the merchant idea was meant to be a *TEMPOARY OPTION* for new player to get the material and the real way to get boss material is to fight the boss and not to buy it . People would actually have a reason to fight the boss because resin efficiency and don’t relies on it too much . Also , if you gonna go and say :” remove the merchant after reaching a specific ar “ then that would just cause uproar as imagine making a system where you only need to fight Regivine and get material that is actually hard to get like double Vishap draining energy and wolf lord corrosion draining your health which is like teenagers leeching off there parent . That would totally unfair . Also , don’t even get me stated with the “ player would get good character by the time they get to the character “ like bruh even if you had good character fighting it , you would still need good rng artifact and unless you can one shot the boss then oh boy do they will abuse the living primogem put out of you . You would constantly need to use your food everytime you fight the bosses and collect stuff like crab .
I feel like limited time events should come back or have a way for everyone to earn them. When they are locked behind game progression it’s heartbreaking
Agreed. I believe they should separate events in two categories: - those that add to the lore and characters could be locked behind keys like character quests. Rewards would still be available even after the event runtime ended so that you don't miss out on anything (it's annoying that some stuff like weapons still can't be bought back from Marjolaine). - the second category would be the "casual" events (like the Hide and Seek one). Since these are just side activities, they could remain limited events for a duration of, let's say 10 days. That way you'd have 4 of these events for each version. I believe the positive thing by sorting events into 2 categories is that you could have more events per version, even though the "casual" events would often be repetition of a previous one. What I see as a massive inconvenience however is that making limited events "permanent" would greatly increase the data of the game, which would be a nightmare for mobile players. But I assume this could be fixed by having the data for these events be stored in cloud and downloaded when unlocked, and then the data for these events would be deleted from the phone/PC/console once we register it as completed (maybe? I'm not the most skilled in informatics, so I don't know if this could work...)
I KNOW!!! Practically all of Albedo's lore is locked behind event quests so for anyone who pulls him now will be so confused about who he is as a character
"You shouldn't rush the game. Take your time enjoying the content, or you'll burn out" *Summons Tsaritsa on day one of your new game* The sentence "Guys is this a good pull" is becoming more and more of a valid question.
It already was a valid question cause 99% of the stuff a character can do is depending on what you have and what you have access to. I've only got wolf's gravestone and staff of homa as 5 star weapons so any suggestions for other 5 star weapons flies right over my head. just getting the characters is enough of a chore. not to mention, while you can look to others for ideas on how to use that character, there's no definitive way to use a character. that again, was out the window long ago when year 1 players had barbara doing 300k vaporize hits despite her kit being heavily into healing.
@@TNinja0 lock character level up mat behind big AR and new boss in new region is a indirect way to force new player spending money on standard banner to get standard 5 stars character , if all limited 5 stars stuff can be level up without some kind of barrier . new players only need to focus their money or free wishes for limited 5 stars stuff they like , any other 5 stars can be skip .
Another problem is the events. New players can’t go into most of them because they’re locked behind a level cap.. imagine being ar16 and there’s a fighting event going on for ar35
I think it would just be better and easier if they made sure each character could be upgraded with their specific region materials. It doesn’t make sense that you’d need something from Enkanmomiya to upgrade Liyue characters like Yun Jin and Shenhe. The only exception would be characters that live in a different region like Thoma.
@@drogadepc if you cap your world level, then they arent useless just weaker. Capping your level is the best way to play through the game, so you can play through the game and not worry about difficulty and farming
one way to fix this is to have different boss mats every ascension Example: Yae uses the electro cube on her first 3 ascension and then use the drag heir fin afterwards
This is the best solution I've seen/heard by far. Edit: It is also a foundation to increasing character level cap up to 100 and beyond. New regions slowly introduce stronger versions of old characters. It's kinda similar to other gacha games where old units slowly get stronger due to higher level caps/awakening/etc. Would be a cool way to change the meta characters too.
I think make a NPC who trade itens is more easy, like make him trade electro cube ascencion material for yae material until newbie acount is lvl 40 for exemple. And of course not only it but all the material to ascende skill too, and for the 4* in the banner to, it's easy to make that NPC.
a decent solution to expand access to region locked materials could be a “travelling merchant” npc in each region whose inventory changes. whichever region they’re stationed in, they carry materials for the other regions. (For example: the merchant in mondstat carries liyue or inazuma mats etc) Or they have to do what they did with adding the corrosion wolves to mondstat and integrate new enemies/mobs into the older regions somehow.
omg there was a glitch in my world where i was doing the wolf boss and i was running around the outside of the arena where i found 3 corrosion wolves just chilling there and i freaked out
The one thing that ruined my experience was having to rush through the story to get to Inazuma because I couldn't unlock Heizou's full power and therefore had to spend most of the game to get him instead of playing the game with him. I can only imagine the frustration of wanting to play a character that has their ascension and leveling locked by the story even if you got them early on thanks to your wishes. And so it became my obsession. Then once I got him, I couldn't unlock the character I wanted next (Yelan). I figured the wait wasn't worth it and it would all soon become repetitive anyway. I see most veteran players are bored, just hanging in there for new content and hanging around helping new and low AR players. The only thing I can think of as truly enjoyable in the long run is... the lyre :D
I understand this, I’ve been playing since the very beginning and I still struggle with finding all of level up materials, Ascension materials, and artifacts. This game is not beginner friendly. You either have to pull for older characters or just speed through the story which is one of the key elements of the game. It’s how the game works tho and it’ll just keep getting worse as more and more updates come out. Best of luck to everyone starting out, I hope you all take your time and enjoy the story just like I did. (Also love both your channels
One of my favorite ways of playing Genshin is to take my time and really absorb the world and story. As a "veteran" but casual player, I first faced this problems when I got Ayaka but was saving unlocking the Inazuma region for when I had a lot of free time to complete the story at my own pace. The same goes for events that require players to finish story quests to unlock. I understand that maybe some events have some connection to the main story, but also forcing me to finish the Inazuma quests to play Tuned to the World's Sounds event made me kind of bitter
Agreed. From what I’ve heard the story is supposed to be part of what sets genshin apart from the average gatcha game (although I couldn’t say for certain because I haven’t played that many), so forcing players to have to rush through that without taking the time to appreciate it just to be able to utilise 5 star characters when they get one would partly defeat the point of the game, which would be quite sad. I’m not sure if this is as big of a problem for f2p players as ones who spent money because I guess that depends how long it takes to earn enough primogems to pull enough times to either get pity after dozens of pulls, or somehow get lucky earlier on.
All events I've seen in the few months i've played allow you to skip story quest requirement. It has a Archon quest requirement or an AR level, but i've not been stopped from participating yet :s
An easy solution would be to give new players "material conversion" gems or something, and they automatically disappear when you unlock the new region. Prevents abuse by older players, but new players can still level up yae miko with other boss mats
Just add a traveling merchant who sells a few local specialties and converts stuff. Appears in whatever region you're on and moves to a new one when you do and can only convert future things.
This is an extremely well--articulated video, and a concern I've been feeling more and more as time goes on with Genshin. Even for someone like me, who took a few months off from the game - I still had to "grind" hours of story just to get to the Lantern Festival event. A new player is probably going to have at least 30 or so hours worth of gameplay just to be able to participate in the event? Sure, it rewards players who have stuck with the game the whole time, but that abrasiveness towards new players feels so unusual to me as someone who plays a ton of gacha games. I really feel like Mihoyo needs to reanalyze and refocus going forward, or else any new players they get are likely to churn pretty quickly.
honestly this is one of the issues that bothers me the most. in every single survey, i always suggest to add some sort of boss/regional material trading (my idea was of a material trading between players or something like cookie run kingdom's trading harbor) and it still bothers me on how they still havent added that considering that theres lots of new characters that always use the newest boss materials (especially shenhe and yunjin which tbh is really ridiculous considering that theyre from liyue and their materials are locked in quests and regions, since inazuma is only available at ar 30) what's also more ridiculous too is the fact that they always add a new boss every update and only 2 characters (normally limited, im talking specifically about the cryo hypostasis (keep in mind that aloy was only available between 2.1 and 2.3), the vishap duo and the hydro hypostasis) can use materials from them which might actually be useless bosses if you dont have any of the characters that need them (an example is if someone doesn't have neither shenhe and yae, then fighting the vishap boss for materials is just pointless since no other character they have use their materials)
trading between players would only encourage making alt accounts for effectively more resin. and if trading is restricted to 1:1 ratio trades only then it would requires high AR players to acquire the materials in the first place and that would be quite pointless for them since they could just go ahead and get the material on their own to begin with. an easy solution would be open an event stage and shop that let people fight the boss and acquire the material of current banner's characters. it wont completely solve the problem but can alleviate it for some people
true I don't fight most of the bosses. Also I don't think trading between players is a good idea since players can just ask for a million of certain currency in game. Would be great for trading NPC like Liben who asks for certain items you can easily find anywhere and gives you talent books, weapon ascensions, etc. and it's limited for certain amount. Players can chose what they need the most. Boss mats can be farmed in special domains accessible only for low AR players so veterans won't abuse it. In co-op rewards will be available for whoever's world it is. All of that rotates by day. Just my ideas for improvements.
@@nox2411 yeah, makes sense. maybe its possible to add a limit per week/month of how much players can exchange to (possibly) avoid that kind of situation the event idea is interesting and it can work similarly to the character trials when there's a banner (or just add the boss materials to the trials)
@@K.K_artS the merchant npc (like liben) is definitely something i can imagine and it can work similarly to the trading harbor from crk, where you can ask the merchant to trade and access a store where you can use materials to buy more materials such as buying a storm beads from the thunder manifestation with a spare lightning prism from the electro hypostasis or buy a crystal marrow with a spare cor lapis (of course with a limited amount that refreshes every week/month, similarly to the starglitter shop)
@@chorocho6523 yep and trading items need to be accessible and so new players would have enough. I'm thinking of hillichurl and slime drops since they are easiest enemies but new players might need them to lvl up characters so I'm stuck on tht one XD
I think a solution to the character problem would be to alter the wishing system slightly. In each city have something like a 'Wishing Well', where you can summon for characters. This will take you to the wishing screen, and each well will have the same event characters, but the roster of characters you can get from standard summons will change to fit the region you're in. A city could perhaps get a Wishing Well after the next city is added to the game. This would mean that you won't get stuck with a 5 star you can't level unless you pull for the event character, and if power creep begins to make old characters redundant it would have less impact as you would be naturally progressing with the power creep anyway.
This would be amazing for older players who want to get a specific 4 star etc without having to wait for a specific event banner. As more and more 4 star characters are added its harder and harder to get new 4 stars and especially to get constellations. Like im saving primos for specific 5 stars but all the 4 stars i want constellations on are on event banners that i dont want and i don;t want to accidentally ruin my pity or 50/50 guarantee etc.
Thoma was one of the few characters I got when I started playing. I love using him so finding out that his ascension mats are far in the story was painful. I actually rushed just so I could get to Inazuma AND tried to finish the Tsurumi quest just so I can safely get his materials. My characters didn't match the mobs I'm facing in Inazuma. Lucky for me, I have a sister who practically carried me throughout everything. I'm at AR55 now and I'm returning the favour by helping low level players.
Must've been tough to do the Tsurumi Island quest. Not only was it time-gated (4 days total if completed each day), but it also was home to probably DS-levels of BS in the rifthounds.
@@ArnoldFrost yeah I was so confused how to do it... that was my first encounter of a time-gated quest; and because I rushed to get materials, my characters barely stood a chance to the rift hounds. My sister wasn't always around to help me but good thing she was free when I needed to fight the Thunderbird. Tsurumi ended up being a special quest in my heart tho ❤
Very simple solution: use diff materials for low level asensions and talents and only have higher level material locked behind regions. New players will be able to level them to a suitable level for their progression and still be incentivised to explore new areas when they wish to max out their character
It's too late for current characters unless they somehow made a refund system to give everyone who already have those characters ascended back the resources they've already used for each of those characters. I would anticipate a lot of players getting salty over the fact that new players didn't have to spend the same time and resin to ascend the same character and there would be a huge back lash.
@@jt_myth They did something similar in Honkai 2 years ago with EXP materials and advanced Skill materials and last year with the Rank Up system for few characters and both times the people that were playing for years and grinding got a pretty good amount of the new Universal Materials and the characters that were ranked up with the old way jumped up a rank or two if they weren't at SSS and those that were SSS got a fragment boxes to choose what they need for other characters.
@@Alik_Odess Ok, but Sony is a part of Genshin and I don't think they want Hoyo to go through the trouble of refunding people and stuff. I'm not against it, I just don't see it happening.
@@jt_myth - Say you need 20 hydro cube for Ayato or 20 rainbow cube for Ayato, it will be the same resin cost. - you need hydro crystals now its rainbow crystals which comes with the rainbow cube, it will be the same resin cost - talent books, same resin cost - regional mats and enemy drops that will be a azoth trade system Why in the world do you think its too late? Do you want free resources? Are you getting salty? It costs the same resin and time but its rainbow, you had to kill the vishap 40 times, now you need to kill the vishap 20 times and the rainbow cube 20 times. You needed to farm a domain 50 times for books, now its rainbow books 20 times and 30 times for normal domains. older players should be happy because now they will always be able to pre-farm the first few ascensions without a new boss releasing
@@imo098765 I'm just saying I have zero faith in getting refunds with Sony involved in any way. Especially since refund primos for bug fixes have stopped too. That's all.
Like Josh Strife Hayes would say: "this is a quitting moment", a moment where players quit the game because it killed their interest and continuing starts to feel like a uphill battle. Making the use of new hyped up characters exclusive only to veteran players makes any new player lose interest in the game. Because no one wants to hear that in order for you to enjoy this character that everyone else is enjoying you have to put hundreds of hours into the game (or skipping most of the game). And on top of that getting those characters is locked behind a costly RNG system.
Not sure what you meant by "this is a quitting moment". This issue is specially bad for beginners, but this doesn't feel "an uphill battle" for the "veterans", at least. So... you're saying that the beginners should quit? Your sentence made it sound like you were talking about everyone or something, but it could be just an interpretation problem on my part xD
@@TheMoonestOne It's something that Josh Strife Hayes explains better on his channel where he reviews lots of mmos. Basically while it could be fine for 95% of people to push through, there will also be a number of newer players who aren't sold on the game yet, and will drop the game over any small inconvenience such as moments like this. And the more moments like that that build up, the worse it is for the game trying to keep new players playing.
@@TheMoonestOne No a quitting moment is when a player is confronted with something that makes them want to stop playing a game (quit). For example I used to play gacha called dragalia lost a ton. Loved the game and still do but they added a mechanic that rendered 90% of my roster useless in the content it was present in. The mechanic eventually started to spill out of that specific end game content and in to other content at which point I dropped the game. That was my "quitting moment". Love the game but I refuse to play it when that mechanic is present. Quitting moments can be for any reason. Good or bad. A developer wants to avoid as many things that would lead to a quitting moment as possible. With genshin there a lot of things what would make players leave before they really get started.
As someone who really started playing this game around the time or just before Ganyus and Zhonglis reruns, I was definitely one of the ones who found myself having to speed my way through the story- JUST so I could play events and catch up with everyone else. This I sort of regret because I wasn't able to focus on the story and literally found myself skipping dialogue 🙃
I feel like an easy way to fix the character ascension lock out is to simply give a character more than one way to ascend. Like someone who needs the cryo flower boss could also use the cryo cube to ascend
@@salsasalsa943 Not really, they could sell the materials in one of the souvenirs shops and make it so you can only buy it once or twice for each required material. Assuming you can have that problem when you're just starting the game, but once you've catch up, you go farm them yourself.
It would’ve been nice to have banners tied to “meeting” characters in game, not to the general state of the plot. Something like: new player completes the 5* personal chapter quest, and that unlocks the time-limited banner. It ties pulling characters to the plot directly, and gives new players time to progress through the game. It doesn’t have to erase current banners, even: reruns of time-limited characters will still be good for constellations.
that's the part where Genshin gets ambiguous, the characters that you get through gacha has nearly no ties to your character as the traveler, sure they're labeled as "companion" but the story doesn't show for it, in other gacha games the character's progression of meeting and joining you is clear and cut in FGO you summon heroes from the past they are bound by contract to your character, in GBF the characters u get in the acha joined your crew, in CounterSide the character joins your company and becomes your employee, lorewise Genshin has none of that, you might have the character in your inventory but outside of gameplay that character might as well not be tied to your MC at all
@@therranolleo468 But it’s usually the case for the 4* characters and some 5* from regular banner. All the other 5* have introductory quest where they interact with the traveler and say something like “I’d like to join you in your adventures/we’re friends”. Making separate questlines is expensive, I get why they bothered only with profitable 5*
Wont work. How could you meet someone like Yoimiya when you are in Mondstadt and she is in Inazuma during Sakoku and vision hunt decree? Would break plot so much.
solution: put some of the limited early 5 stars into the main pool, and decrease pity on standard by 10. it will make it easier for newer players to get a couple of 5 stars to build while they are on the way to later regions.
Not likely to nearly impossible to put limited characters who were marketed as "limited" into the permanent pool since that's liable for a potential lawsuit
@@kilmer5435 imo, the only characters that should remain limited are the archons. It's ridiculous how 5*s outnumber 4*s, yet the permanent 5*s are the same lineup a year and a half later. Give me one reason other than "they were originally limited, so they should stay limited" as to why characters like Klee, Albedo, Childe, and Ganyu should not be permanent 5*s.
10:53 Genshin developers are hell bent NOT to let the player play as much as possible for as long as possible. The issue is not just the ascension materials locked by region, the issue is the resin system. Other gacha allow you to gring stamina/resin equivalent via playing and with packs in the shop ( obviously). In Genshin both the option are non existent, as final result one plays 5 mintues and log out, because everything that is actually relevant to level up units ( therefore accessing areas with stronger mobs on the road) is resin bound. 20 hours to regenerate the resin. That is the actual core that messes up the whole game, that is not this crippling in other gacha games. Players might start to skip banners that involve characters for which they cannot access the materials ( i am one, for example) , but seems Hoyo management is blind.
Agreed. Every other game I played that has stamina/AP system is not this crippling. Genshin really is challenging me to stop playing and it looks like it's working. I'll stop playing after Dendro Archon drops
I love these videos and definitely agree with everything this man says. However, throughout the duration of these videos I'm constantly thinking that no matter how much we want all the bad aspects of this game to be fixed. We all know hoyoverse has not, or will ever want this game to be fixed
Thanks for bringing attention to this! Another issue I have with the game is how time locked everything is. I know that quite a few countries have video game laws but just about everything with the game is time locked too much
One thing that I think could improve on the "adding old characters to the standard banner" idea is splitting the standard banner into regional standard banners. So, for example, the Mondstat standard banner would have the existing Mondstat permanent 5*s, Diluc, Jean and Mona, and any Mondstat 5*s added to it later, like Venti, Klee, etc., all the Mondstat 4* characters, and any 4*/5* weapons that use Mondstat weapon materials. And same kind of thing for Liyue, Inazuma, etc. So, let's say the new region is Sumeru and we have regional standard banners for Mondstat, Liyue and Inazuma. A new player could say "Those Inazuma characters look cool, but I can't get their materials, so I'll pull on the Mondstat banner instead." Or better yet, getting to Inazuma is what unlocks the ability to pull on Inazuma's standard banner at all. Not only would this help new players not get as screwed by getting characters they can't build, but it would also help older players who have like a C4 Keqing and no Diluc have better odds at getting the permanent 5*s they want.
I think that would be a really good setup. Would all the 5-stars be permanently available from their regional standard banner, or would there still be some that are locked behind event banners?
@@rustyspottedcat516 If I were Hoyoverse and were implementing this system, I imagine I would start out with not adding characters immediately to their region's standard banner, but over time as units become older, adding them to their region's standard banner when it seems less likely that they will be able to make a huge splash on their own event banner. Basically, keep them locked behind event banners until it wouldn't be profitable to do so anymore.
Honestly, without adjusting how ascension items are chosen, i think Hoyoverse's best option is to slowly add older characters to standard. Although, I do remember reading somewhere that this may be difficult as they initially said they were limited and I think there are laws preventing them. Either way, I hope it becomes easier for new players to get into genshin but I do worry it wont.
I've seen people dismiss these concerns by stating that people should only pull on the Standard Banner until they reach endgame. But that ignores one critical issue among many others. Namely that the Standard Banner still has 4* that are locked behind world progression. If you're a F2P player who uses their limited wishes and ends up with region locked characters, you're not going to be very happy with the game. In an ideal world for MHY this would push F2P players into becoming dolphins who spend a little to get a character that's actually usable at their low Adventurer rank. But more likely than not it's going to just cause a lot of people to stop playing due to how unfair the gacha is going to appear. Which then could turn around and cause them to warn other potential players away from the game. The best case scenario going forward is that all new countries can be accessed simply by walking over the border in exploration. Beidou was my second pull ever at the beginning of the game - but I was able to level her fairly easily because I could hop over to Liyue almost instantly even with very casual play. It somewhat ruined the flow of story progression for me as I was in that region long before the story was telling me to visit, but hey at least Beidou was viable to play. If Sumeru does the same thing, where people can sequence break and just go there if they really want to, I think this will end up being a mild annoyance at best. It still leaves Inazuma characters Adventure locked but at least that'll eventually only be a small portion of the roster.
That's doable for countries that have frontiers with mondstat but inazuma/enkanomiya (and I will risk saying Natlan and snezhaya) still remains locked by story progression
@@spiritblossomshen2145 Yep. While I say it's the best case scenario, ideally I'd prefer they unlock Inazuma (allow people to cryo their way there) and add ingame ways to obtain mats from those regions. Farming can help a little with the plant gatherables, but they need to add a way to get boss mats /and/ ore/bugs as well. Something like the parametric transformer, but for that, would be amazing.
One of my first pulls had been Thoma. While I was walking around the area of dragonspine. And he also is on the standard wish. Gorou and Yun Jin got added to that. Sayu is there too. Same for Kujou Sara. If a new player pulls any of those characters. They can only use them for a rather short time and may grow less interested in those. The liyue characters outside of Yun Jin are not bad as you can reach liyue relatively quick without needing to do the mondstadt archon quest much. But yes. There needs to be something like a travelling merchant. Or trade shop. Or system to teleport to an area with a barrier around for boss drops. Sure those could be "unfair trades" like a 3:1 or even 5:1. So veterans cant abuse it so easily. But simply a way for new players to actually be able to play the new characters. If as a new player you get locked out from playing the one you just pulled. Especially if that was one of your first chars and so far they had been nice. You may loose interest in the game. And speedrunning through the story without having played it before can burn out and overwhelm new players.
@@zeosummers3984 As i used Xiangling instead of Thoma then. Not really. However i avoided characters that have materials i am away from. Everyone plays differently. And what one person can speed through in a day is not what others can.
Best way to address this other than reruns is for an AR locked limited time wish events. It would suck to need to speed run all the main quests just to be able to level up the new 5 star you got.
luckily i only got yae miko on my alt account where it doesnt matter much. if i want the limited free 4 star though, theres a painfully long path to enkanomiya ahead of me lol
You are right but the one issue. Alot of people start games because of a current player banner (I did this with Epic Seven during the Reincarnated as a slime crossover) if you AR lock the banner, some players would quit because they wouldn't get the character they want
At first I thought you meant limited time wish events for only low AR people and felt that it might have been cool. An event banner that constantly runs Mondstadt 5 stars that only below 30 AR or so can pull might work.
They could just make a Domain in which you can fight any Boss but higher the Resin cost to 60 since beginner don't care for resin anyway and that way it would't make the overworld Boss encounter useless
@@werarde thats what I meant but I guess since my comment was made before the video went live it could have been misunderstood. Sorry bout that man. But yeah an ar locked limited time banner that has characters accessible to players typically in that AR bc of regions. They'd still have the option of doing the event banner and rerun but since they are of low AT theyd have access to banners that features characters with materials in regions theyd have unlocked (mondstad and liyue). Again thats just my take since for me having the option to do something is better than being limited.
By the way, let me know what you guys think about the editing in this video! I've been thinking about encouraging my editors to play around more with background footage so as not to just be gameplay the entire way through. Of course this one was dialed up to 11 I was blown away when I first saw this. But feel free to share your thoughts! :D My editors and I are always looking to find ways to increase the production quality of my videos.
Editing is pretty spot on. It was fluid and easy to understand, at least for me. Now a question, "What are your thoughts on the idea of the Standard Banner being replaced with a Regional Banner that rotates each patch?" I get the feeling that would somewhat address the problem where more characters from future regions come into place. Maybe barring Archons, I could see every other 5* character working for this as the amount of them will grow bigger as the game gets older, and less chances of reruns occur for them.
I honestly didn´t even notice. To me, the most important thing in your videos is the voice, the message, the audio. I rarely put attention on the visuals, since they´re there mostly to support what you are saying.
I have an idea…. What if instead of just character reruns or new character banners, each nation has its own banner (eg monstadt -eula, Liyue - hutao, inazuma - itto ) that way newer players have a chance to pull for their own local characters. Of course , this would give everyone a harder choice to decide who to pull , but what do u guys think?
Honestly, if you replace the standard banner with something like that I think it could become interesting. In conjection with an event banner, you could either pull for This Month's New Character, or opt to spend your wishes on a region-specfic banner. Depending on the grace period between the character recieving an event banner and the character being thrown into their region-specfic banner, I think you could create a really intuitive supply/demand for certain characters. It could keep most, if not all units always avalible while still giving the player a choice as to what they want AND let's newly released characters still have their spotlight for a while. Hella cool idea
@@accannam1681 oh yeah it’s def not something they’d ever implement, if you make every character available at all times whales would go crazy and it would kill the longevity of the game
I started playing seriously around golden archipelago. Barely finished Mondstadt when Inazuma dropped. I wanted the Beidou constellation so bad I practically had to speedrun the entirety of liyue, the interlude, and ritou under a WEEK to make it to the event on the last 48 hours. That SUCKED.
To be fair there really isn't much they can do about this. They could make events permanent which isn't gonna happen, or they could make all future events not locked behind stories but that means no new events in newer regions ever again.
@@Hin-yi6gw they could make it so these sort of events last throughout most of the version maybe? They did something similar with the latest Enka event: lasts over 40 days in total. Pretty good imo
Honestly, if I started to play the game today, I think I would drop the game so fast because of how it works in general. I was first attracted by the whole searching for sibling story but now I feel like it's so far from that. Not to mention the events that I would miss. Plus, even getting a character feels like a chore because the way you have to level them up after
@@hankgu1328 "it takes just one week (1-2 hours a day)" no it does not i've been playing 2 months, many of the days i played 6-8 hours in one day, even stayed up through the night a few times. i'm at ar45 and just unlocked enkanomiya very recently, which is where the current event is. and that's with me skipping through a lot of text, if i actually read all the text it would take even longer. most archon quests take so long that i can't even pass one chapter of a story in one day.... which would be fine if i wasn't rushing to participate in events. i thought it would be easier at first because i got to ar14 in a couple hours on day 1, but then i ended up missing the liyue event (ar28 minimum) which i'm still frustrated about.
They should just make "Paimon's secret haul" in the shop, that would change according to your account. If your AR is too low for you to get to the boss, and you own the right character, you could buy the mats that would let you play your new character at the right level. Or, make it so you still have to farm the boss already available, but would get a limited number of recipes to transform the necessary materials. This way, new players could use their new characters in older content, and when they get to the point where they can fight the boss regularly, well they wouldn't be able to buy the materials/recipes anymore.
Theres a few huge inherent problems with putting characters who were previously advertised as "limited" into the standard pool. Primarily, people who spent a lot of money for a particular character would feel like their money was wasted if they just get added to the standard pool. THAT BEING SAID, I don't think many people would have problems if HYV added Klee and Tartaglia to the standard banner, considering how long ago they were released.
I'd say anyone who has played a gacha game before would know that the character they spent money on will be added to the standard banner eventually. even if not, there's still common sense, people pay for new iphones only for them to get cheaper the next year as a newer model is released. they spent money, they got the access early. not to mention, becoming standard is not really becoming free to get. you still need to spend fates/primos and money if you wish to get that character from a standard banner.
We can also add the fact that in the standar banner It's really difficult to get an specific 5*, so they badpay for having 50% ofprobability instead of let's say, 10% with no waranty. It will be like pulling for 4* especifically, expensivier.
I think something like having the standard pool expand as new regions are unlocked could be more useful. Like 1-2 limited liyue characters with materials located in liyue added to the pool after you unlock. Then the same with inazuma and future regions. That way if you get lucky and get a 5* from the standard banner you’ll always have access to the materials needed for them. Also something like trading smuggled goods (character materials) from beidou in liyue could be a way to remedy this as well. Just have the items you’re trading be traded at a loss like 3-1 or something like that.
I mean, it is a gacha game? Im sure players already expect limited characters to be accessible. I really want them to fix how easy it is to break quests and domains tbh
A fun Idea I had was a "Celestial Island" that is in tune with the constellations of what ever banner characters that are currently available. What that actually means is you can warp to a small/medium sized island that will have everything that specific character needs such as mobs, collectables, and a copy of the boss in the center of the island for you to farm. If that idea is to ambitious, just add a trader that swaps boss drops at a rate of 3 to 1, so it will always be better to farm the boss directly, while still allowing newer players the ability to level their cool new character. As for the monster items and local collectables, I think a shop/Bazaar should be added somewhere that sells almost everything in somewhat small quantities so you can hit 50-60 with out to much trouble. In addition to all of that I feel they should just allow free travel (Not story access) to new regions from now on, and avoid Inizuma type hard barriers in the future. So if you REALLY want to go get your items you can wonder that way right now if that is what you want. As an aside I do think the traveler baseline should be buffed so it feels like you have at least one strong character right out of the gate. And don't need to get a strong 5star to make it past level 60-70.
Yeah, to sum up, a side event that lets you easily upgrade a character up to around 70 (where they unlock their last ability) and to avoid the company to complain abuse on it, make those special limited mats that only works with the banner featured character so it still gives "motivation" for players to pull for the new character since it will be easier to level and upgrade.
yeah i agree with the trader/merchant/bazar idea. I think it fits well in the fantasy aspect of the game while allowing new characters to be more accessible to new players. It would also be great for players like me, who enjoy the exploring part of the game but dont really enjoy the grinding for materials (especially the ones that are more time consuming to farm),,,, I want to buy philanemo mushrooms to ascend barbara and mona,, because I hate gathering them.. If there was someone who lived in mondstat who sold some because (insert merchant backstory that still fits in with the lore here) i'd be all over that and buying up all their stock every day.. plus it would be enriching the game with more reasons to talk to npc's. I also think that maybe certain materials that would be sold (eg. a fruit from fontaine) could only appear to be purchased after certain exploration progress or after the character who needs it for ascension gets released.. and there could be dialogue about it along the lines of "try this new fontaine specialty that my partner just gathered.. since its imported itll cost more." or whateverr. theres so many creative ways this specific issue can be solved, I hope they implement something.
Inazuma has a story reason to prevent access, but no other regions should be AR or story locked like Inazuma is and it would be really annoying if they did that.
Something I've heard people suggest is a trading location, where you can trade region-specific materials for something similar (ie enemy drops for enemy drops, plants for plants, etc.) It wouldn't be enough to max out a character (enough to bring them to level 70) but enough to make them useable. Also make it a 3:1 or 5:1 trade, where you trade 3 or 5 materials for one, so it incentivizes players to actually explore to get the materials instead of just trading everything
@@ceyx1201 yes! Like, we could trade simple resources, like items that can be gathered, such as plants, or enemies' and bosses' drops. Like, I have a crap ton of Qixing and both hydro and pyro cube drops, as well as some oceanid a lot pyro regisvine drops too. I wouldn't mind trading this for some anemo and electro cube drops, or some mechanical array drops. Or even some elemental gems. Like, this could easily offer an incentive to coop more (even if just looking for trades) and a good alternative for new players to get some items they need, by interacting with older players who could get some stuff they need that's very accessible but annoying to get. (like, the anemo cube drops. You have that boss from the start but it's an annoying one. If you could team with some new players for you two to farm that boss and they give you the drops in exchange for some Inazuma bosses? That'd be heaven!) You could even, perhaps, use that for weekly bosses drops. I wouldn't mind trading my Raiden's and Signora's drops for some Azdaha's and Andrius' drops.
Hm, maybe it should be like "for inazuman character it's 5:1 if you trade mond mats, 3:1 if liyue, for sumeru it's 7:1 for mond etc"... idk if that's a good idea since you're gonna need like 20 for one Dainsleif mat but it insentivizes to keep going deeper instead of sitting in mond, i think.
@@ceyx1201 No that would be the last thing we need. Imagine the gaia online economy collapse happening all over again. We do not need one of those. I can just imagine how more experienced players can abuse the system because they have far more resources and mora. Especially when characters like Hu Tao are high demand and very popular, people are going to want to gather as much resources for her build.
The banner system feels really out of touch by now, especially the standard banner. I wish they would break that up into for now three different banners, one for each country. Put all the respective 5 and 4 star units in those. Have event banners still have the raised percentages and I think they would be still pulled on
This is certainly a problem yes, but when I was a new player (new account), in my honest experience I don't feel like being lockout because I was too busy in exploring and doing story quests. I only level up my standard characters... so yeah while it's certainly an issue that needs fixing, new players tend to be very busy with other thing.. also they usually don't minmax their character right from the get go. I was fine using XQ and Xiangling. If I'm lucky I can get new character from banner, but if I'm not, I still have my torchlighter amber, barbara healer, etc. That's why I think genshin is a good gacha game because after 2 years, these 4 star characters are still in use no matter what. I can't stand korean gacha powercreeping other characters in a matter of 2 weeks / several months but their aesthetics are far more pleasing though.. imho. I played Brown Dust (brave 9) and Counter:Side.
Me and a couple of my friends started playing Genshin the start of this year together. One of my friends managed to get both Shenhe and Yae Miko. They were so happy they got new characters with low pity back then but now they’re rushing through the content just to get to Inazuma so they can use their 5 stars characters. We’re just about finished exploring Liyue while they have unlocked every teleport point on Inazuma just to get ascension materials. It’s tough.
The simple option would be to add a function to the crafting table, where you can cash in unwanted ascension items for desired ones. Do it in a 3:1 offering sense, the same amount it takes to upgrade items into rarer versions. Only difference here would be that the tier levels would be the same or would require more of previous versions. 3 greens make a purple, 3 purples make a gold, right? Or however it goes. Well, this way, you'd take 3 unrelated golds to get 1 desired gold or 6 purples to get a chosen gold. For boss items, just cash in 3 other types for the single one you want of a desired boss variety. Like, I know I'm going to have to grind against azdeha eventually for Eula...and I don't want to do that. His fight is obnoxious, tedious and loud. I'd much rather fight stormterror and the bathy vishaps, since they're much easier/fun. This way, you'd never have to physically reach the required gathering areas and can instead power up your characters with just a little extra effort. This would also work wonders for up to date players who have an inventory clogged with unusable back stock. It adds some grinding while simultaneously eliminating grinding at the same time. They use grinding as a means of keeping you hooked, but 9 times out of 10, I'm just logging on to do my dailies, chip at my weeklies, and then maybe press into a current event. Being able to actively work towards something in this fashion would keep me more engaged, as I wouldn't have to keep rushing to the front of the content pile in order to stay relevant and could relax from time to time.
This is a great method!! Some players like the more challenging bosses, but some prefer the smaller ones, even if they take more time to reach equivalent materials
Something that we have in fgo that could help with this is hunting quest Think of a event dominion that allow players to fight enemies that they could only fight in the endgame. We could gain some rewards like exp and the boss materials
don't forget the new Pure Prisms sure they're limited by how much of the story/free quest you've completed but they're tradable for anything used to ascend and skill your newer units.
I just started playing last week, I got Yoimiya from the event banner and was pretty excited! I really enjoyed building a team around her but when I got to her ascension and found I needed items from inazuma, I got pretty annoyed. I was level 15/20 at the time and was able to upgrade my other units. I don't know if it's a huge problem. but as a new player I found it weird, annoying, and off putting that I had access to materials to upgrade some units, but not others.
An idea I had for this problem was a "sightseeing" mechanic where you can spend 20 resin to be teleported to an area of the entire tevyat map of your choosing for a limited time. there will be a barrier around the area you chose, around half the size of a single island in inazuma. for that short period you are allowed to collect any materials that grow within that region.
I've been playing since venti's rerun, he was my first 5 star, I believe. I still think one of the issues with this game is how the regions grow increasingly harder to farm. I skipped Ei (who I wanted because I got Eula and word is they synergize well) because I thought building her would be hard, but I made the mistake to pull for Itto because I loved his character. God I had no one to beat the spicy puppy snake with. I also had no one to beat specters without crying, because my best team was full melee. It wasn't until I got ganyu on her rerun that things got *a little* easier. And I still got Ganyu to 80 and her bow maxed in about a week while itto is hardstuck at 70 because farming for her ascension was something I had done just by exploring. Every character coming out demands drops from harder enemies that I honestly can't be bothered to learn how to fight as a casual. I know genshin isn't made for casuals buy I wish they wouldn't block us out by trying to keep the veterans interested. There has to be another way...
If this helps: you can beat the Golden Wolflord with Geo Traveler for your mats for Itto. It's a slow process, but Geo Traveler (LV80 but fully ascended, with I believe Lv6 Elemental Skill talent and the Geo damage artifact set) and Noelle carried me through that fight until my Itto was high enough level. This was World Level 6
Yeah I have the same problem rn with yae miko I hadn’t even unlocked eukanomiya and as a mobile player who’s highly reliant on my 40k hp zhongli farming her mats against a boss that can hit through shields is physically painful
@@miagomoski2739 mobile player here keeping one of the vidhaps on the wall rather than destroying it will make your life infinitely easier, i got really good at the fight by the time i farmed all 46

This actually happened to me when I started playing at the end of 2021. I didn't know what I was doing at all and I was progressing through Mondstat super slow to take everything all in. I randomly got Ningguang and thought she was super cool and wanted to build her up in my team before becoming disappointed when I realized that I couldn't level her up anymore. I ended up shelving her with the vague thought of getting back to her later. I'm just starting Inazuma now (I like to mostly complete regions before I move on), and I've never used her since. It's a little disheartening that a character's lack of initial usability can make them so irrelevant. Like, what's the point of pulling for a character in a far off region, when by the time you get to that region, there'll be exciting and new characters to pull for and use instead?
I'm feeling that myself considering i stopped playing not long after dragonspine hit. I stopped during Rosaria's debut... then didn't come back until basically the shenhe banner. I'm still trying to unlock a lot of inazuma just to level Yunjin. Granted i was AR 50 when i quit, but that doesn't change the fact that even returning players are region locked in a sense too.
@@nobodyofknowhere973 If it was an option, I didn't realize it existed until after I pretty much completed 95% of Mondstat and moved on to Liuye regardless. I was basically playing Genshin without understanding every facet to it at that point. Around Liuye, I started watching yt videos with playing tips and that's when I realized that there were boss monsters I was supposed to be fighting daily/ weekly to farm for essential resources. My resin sadly went basically untouched for several weeks of game play as I focused only on the quests and storyline.
This happens to me too, i main ningguang on early but she got powercreeped because i can't ascend her. So what i did is i instead waiting for childe's banner to get rosaria and been using her as my main dps until now (AR 50). a lot of characters to farm mats for, its so hard to keep track plus its wasting time, i mean we have a real life right.
5:05 This part reminded me that when I started the game back in 2020, I pulled Ningguang and Beidou and started using them a lot, but I couldn't level them up because I took my time finishing the Mondstadt quests before heading to Liyue. So there I was, with lvl 60 Traveler being carried by lvl 20 Ningguang and Beidou. My issue was easily solved by waltzing my way into Liyue and finding the bosses to get their ascension materials, which to be fair I didn't even know at the time, but it's was a simple fix nonetheless.
That was my biggest problem as well. First 4 characters I got from wishes were all liyue ones and even though I am I nearly done with liyue, I only use 1 out of the 4 i have pulled. The other three I don’t use because I have only seen them as useless for so long I couldn’t care enough to put any work in them.
I want to talk about genshin events. As a veteran player, I've played through a lot of events, and I can definitively say that each event, even the smaller ones, are all connected in the overarching plot. Some are obvious like lantern rite and windblume, but even smaller events like the dreams of bloom and a study in potions are connected to the plot, (loosely connected, if anything it feels more like a side story, yet still part of the plot since it mentions things that have happened in the story). I feel like hy should let the smaller events be accessible to anyone who has the region unlocked, while the bigger events that are more impactful to the story can be accessible only after you've finished the quest. Genshin isn't just popular because of it's exploration, but also because of it's storytelling and lore. It would make sense that the bigger events would follow the story chronologically, while the smaller ones are more akin to sidequests. Regarding the 5 star characters... I've never had to deal with a character being region locked, but I can understand the frustration of new players not being able to use a character you were able to pull since their materials are locked in another region. I think it would be best if hy were to just add the older 5 stars into standard banner, not just because it's easier (for both hy and for players who want the characters, veterans and newbies), but also because it'd give people more reason to pull on it as well. It wouldn't make sense to keep cycling through old 5 stars over and over again once there are more characters. There wouldn't be enough time to rerun them all at that point (an exception to this would be the archons, I feel like they shouldn't be added into the standard mix since they're more important and impactful to the lore and game in general). I love genshin, it's one of my favorite games, but it has been noticeably going downhill as of lately, from the character designs (take the Yelan leaks for example), to some storytelling aspects (Inazuma felt lacking when compared to Mondstadt and Liyue), and now to the new player friendliness. I doubt this was all intentional (obviously), and I'm sure after the incident with the attempted assassination of the hy ceo things took a turn, but I do hope that they're able to address all these issues in the future. Edit: so the new event has a quick start feature now! I was p excited when I saw it since I hadn't done Kokomi's quest yet, and that was one of the prerequisite quests needed for the event.
My main concern is making the storytelling and the gameplay mesh well. The events thing makes sense to me (maybe put old small events in a section like where character stories are but make it say something like "regional stories"??), but I have an issue with putting ALL old 5 stars in the standard banner. If we are concerned about getting 5-stars that new players won't be able to level up, then I suggest only putting the 5-stars from Mondstat into the standard banner. I'm sure this would be tricky, but another option is to make more 5-stars from a region become available in the standard pool as the player completes that region. This would probably only be applicable for regions previous to the most recent one (now that would be Mondstat and Liyue) as 5-stars would still be coming out for that new region and Mihoyo wants that money. I also like @Tera Star's suggestion below that we should use diff materials for low-level ascensions. I would add that when higher-level material becomes required for leveling depends on what region they are from. If the cap is level 40 in Mondstat only (just making up a number), then all Liyue and Inazuma characters would have low-level materials required for their ascensions up until level 40. Then they would require materials from their region to pass level 40. If the cap is level 80 in Liyue (again making up a number), then all Inazuma characters would have low-level materials required for their ascensions up until level 80.
@@dragonscald1 The issue I see with the regional standard pool is that Mihoyo is planning to continue adding onto Mondstadt and Liyue in the future as well. The regiojs have to remain relevant somehow…
Yeah I started in 2020 Match, and during summer I could play any events cause I worked a lot and I missed a lot of impportsnt events :( I hope they make like something that we can play through the old event stories we don’t even need to get the prizes but at least play through the dtories
I agree and I would like to add an idea for events. I think it is so sad that new players will never know the old events and stories and that they never have the chance to get the limitit items. I myself don't have them since I had to restart my game and I really want these Items back. I think the best solution would be if you could play the event story afterwarts but you don't get the rewards (so that playing the event befor the deadline ends is still relevant). And maybe you could get the limitit items in a store (like in Mondstadt) and you have to pay for them (also like you can do it in Mondstadt) insteat of getting them for free in the event. I personally would love that Btw sry for my english. It's not my first language but I hope you still get what I mean
this all actually happened to me when i started playing a month or two ago. I got lucky on Shenhe's banner and managed to pull her until I realized that she needed stuff from Enkanomiya. I hadn't even gotten to Liyue yet. I ended up rushing through content to get her levelled up and kinda wish I didn't have to, since it took away from the experience of actually playing. Also I see a lot of people here wishing that event related things weren't impossible to obtain outside of those events and I agree. I'd love to see some event reruns in future or maybe alternative ways to get things that I've missed out on.
@@jbting yeah, people crying about this is stupid at best. They can just complete the required quests with their current characters (even the original ones are viable for everything), and then spend a few days to level up their new characters.
@@jbting agreed. you don't need a 5* for the story anyway, hell you can even get by with the starters. i got lucky and got xingqiu, and they also give you xiangling and noelle for free, which was helpful at the time
I'm a longtime player and my brother just started two days ago. When he pulled a character that needed ascension mats from an area he hadn't unlocked yet that's when I realized how punishing this game actually is to new players, especially when you think about how while the playable units aren't being powercrept that badly, the new mobs and bosses are significantly harder than the ones in the beginning. And also the most appealing factor in this game is the lore and the exploration so if people don't read it so they can rush through it'll be the death of this game...
As a relatively new player, I feel like I've missed the Genshin-train. I also see that the later you join the game, the harder it will be to progress. Why? Several reasons. For instance; during the early days of Genshin, Mihoyo would give you WAY more currency. I guess this was to build a playerbase quickly. However, from a game balance viewpoint, this is a backwards approach. Here's why: in the beginning, the number of unique characters and weapons was small. Meaning; you had a much higher chance of pulling the same thing than you do now. As the game progresses, the character/weapon pool keeps getting more diluted. That's bad. Why? Because of character constellations and weapon refinement. You need multiples of the same char/weapon to make them more powerful (sometimes drastically more so). With a progressively diluted char/weapon pool, your chance of building a powerful team gets increasingly smaller. So in essence, it was much easier to get powerful back then than it is now. Additionally, Mihoyo is steadily making the endgame (Abyss) harder. You need a much stronger team to clear Abyss today than you did in the beginning. This makes it even harder for new players, because clearing Abyss rewards a significant amount of currency. This means the disparity between new and older players just keeps growing. tl;dr: * It's getting progressively harder/expensive for a new player to build a good team as new content is added * The endgame keeps getting harder in order to keep up with the power creep, which gives new players an even harder time * The disparity between new players and veterans will keep growing
Well yea, use only limited banner to pull for chars, even 4* got up rate. 50% to get 1 of 3 4* each time you pull a 4*. That would help a lot for collecting cons. For example, i got 8 noelle for 140 pulls on yelan banner 😂. So, it's still easy for new players. The real problem is abyss. Yes, veterans would have a higher chance now since 12F is basically Veteran only stage and it is a lot harder than the old 12F. As for what must beginner do. I'd say don't rush because of characters. Enjoy your first year and wait for reruns. If you like story and lore, i believe rushing thing only made it worse.
I'm holding out hope its an Inazuma exclusive problem, due to story about how it was a closed nation and you can only get there by sea. Hopefully you can just go west/ northwest from Liyue freely when Sumeru + Fontaine + Natlan are out, like how you can freely go to Liyue from mondstadt early to fight the pyro regisvine and whatnot. Shenhe using Enkanomiya drops really dashes my hope though.
4 month old comment, ik but with the addition of Sumeru soon, it does seem like it just connects from the Chasm, which is good, hopefully this will continue with the other regions
I think a instanced scenario with the current 5 star character’s materials and boss would be a nice fit for the future. And once the banner is gone the instance is also gone.
This is simple and yet really easy as a fix. I like this idea. There's an instanced domain to bosses that correspond with the current limited 5-star, and throughout the banner run, you can use that instanced domain to fight the boss. But at the end of the banner, the instance disappears and changes over to the boss that corresponds to the _next_ limited 5 star. But the instance is always within the Mondstadt/Liyue region, to provide new players with guaranteed access. This idea doesn't break anything. Players who want to level up their character can spend all their resin making sure they level up their character before the banner ends, otherwise they really will have to wait a long time until they reach the real boss fight. But for players who don't mind the wait, they can simply pull for the character and sit on them for a long time. Bravo, good idea! The only problem now with that is, what about regional talent books, and materials? For instance, Transient talent books for Yoimiya. Sadly, there's still no answer for that, unless they also make an instanced scenario for talent book domains. Which if they can do it for bosses, sure, they can do it for talent domains too. But the hardest one to answer is, what about regional materials. You can get some enemy materials from Paimon's Bargains, but some materials only grow in the specific regions, like Sakura Blooms used to level up Ayaka. Thoughts on that? Maybe have a traveling salesman who sells materials for mora? Lol maybe they could add Liben permanently to Mondstadt?
I think one way to "fix" this problem is giving use a gadget similar to parametric transformer where it can only accept boss drops in exchange for regional random boss drop or they can add something similar to artifact reroling 3 for 1 drop
I think there should be a vendor, kind of like the alchemist station, in Monstadt that allows for players to exchange regional materials. Like being able to exchange dandelion seeds for sango pearls. This would incentivize older players to gather materials in different regions to trade for what they need; meanwhile allow for newer players to get materials they normally would not have access to before AR 30 or so.
I really think this doesn't have to be that big of a problem that it has to. Imagine we're all the way up in Natlan and new players have just started new accounts. I would imagine that new players on foot if they will it, can travel through Sumeru, Fontaine, to Natlan in order to collect geographical materials and enemies materials for that characters and weapons. The only one time exception to this is Inazuma due to in context of the current state of Teyvat with the typhoon separating mainland Teyvat and Inazuma. As well as the Sakoku Decree. Other than Inazuma, all regions including their expanded areas should be transversible for new player day one. Of course certain objects that are involved in upcoming archon quest will not be interactable or within a red barrier, or a pop-up notice well notify players that there are requisitions to be met in order to interact with said object/places/NPC. Another means of acquiring foreign materials are that in every major city there is an accessory shop that can sell and refresh these foreign goods on a daily basis. As for Boss mats, in Mondstadt there is a little area called the Thousand Wind Temples where past civilizations used to worship Kairos god of time. They can introduce a device or a pedestal or something that can have players challenge any locked bosses if their consent of heavy spoilers are confirmed.
I was about to say something similar, and to add to the Thousand Winds Temple idea, most of the non-trounce bosses in Inazuma have zero presence in the story quests there (exceptions being the vishap duo in Enkanomiya, but even then, the boss itself doesn't really spoil the story there.), so there wouldn't even need to be a spoiler warning. As for trounce-boss materials, considering you don't really need them until your characters' talents are lv6, and you don't really need to push beyond lv5 to do story content, they could leave trounce bosses story-locked. Another idea would be temporarily allowing material conversions for ascension mats/boss drops (kinda like we can do with elemental shards and boss talents mats already), but only allow them until you can reach the domain/boss they're farmed from. Maybe even only so long as you have a character who needs the materials in question?
Started playing this new year and spent money to get Shenhe and was initially shocked on how far I need to get to start getting her upgrade materials. Currently AR 49 and still haven't gotten to Enkanomiya but I have been enjoying the challenge of the level disparity it creates. It's still a pretty ridiculous notion that I can see putting off others and being more problematic later down the line.
For now, surely it's liveable, but yes, what happens when it grows..? For now you can just bench em for a bit..there's heaps of others capable to use..
@@zeosummers3984 you may, but that depends on the AR levels and World level, it may or may not be accessible. But an AR 20 cannot join an AR 55 world, to say for example…in the release of Natlan characters. An AR 20 with the newly release Natlan character cannot access the region or join someone who has unlocked the region.
@@zeosummers3984 I am able to and do when I don't feel like actually struggling, but I often don't. Even with level 40-60 characters, most final level domain are quite easy to complete. Some though, can get very frustrating.
Hey Vars, I can have a bit of a day on this since I started when inazuma was released. As a beginning player, all my friends were already at inazuma, and I wanted to go there too. Upon watching RU-vid videos on how to get there, you can either break the game by going under the sea or doing the quests. I speedran 90% of the story quest just for inazuma! AND THE MOBS THERE ARE 10X HARDER. WHEN I GOT KOKOMI AT AR 32 IT WAS A PAIN TO FIGHT HYDRO CUBE WHEN YOU ARE UNDERLEVELED. I had to enlist the help of my friends. And now it’s gotten even worse Like, if you wanted yae miko right…. You would have to do all the story quests until enkanomiya (also raise your ar to 30) And then you gotta get all her ascension stones/resources/drops from enemies As a new player, if you speedran through that much content JUST to ascend one character, it’s just not worth it. ALSO EVENTS.EVENTS.EVENTS. ok, Version 2.5 is based around enkanomiya , and 90% of the primo source and stuff to do is gonna be located there. Which means, if you haven’t unlocked enkanomiya, YOU CANT EVEN PARTICIPATE IN MOST OF THE ENTIRE VERSION. Sure, there’s 2 events taking place in Lyuie and monstadt but you are still missing out on an entire story… Hoyoverse/mihoyo really needs to find a way to fix this…or else new players are just going to put the game down and that is just sad.
I was in the exact place as you, underlevelled with Kokomi as my only 5 star and no way to defeat the hydro cube in under 15 minutes. I got my friends to help me too because otherwise it would have been so intensely unfun. Sure, it's easier now I'm farming for Ayato and have other characters levelled. But for a first character, it sure leaves a bad impression.
I guess I'm glad when I started new during the last zhongli banner I left my AR at 35 and just played with free characters, but if I didn't nolife the game I would've missed the events since I wanted to full clear each region before moving on to the next.
It's mostly because of Inazumas whole locked down region thing imo. The moment a new boss is released, if they're in inazuma most characters will use that in the future. Even non-Inazuman characters like Yun Jin and Shenhe use Inazuman boss drops. It shouldn't be too much of a problem once Sumeru is released considering every region after that is connected to the mainland of Teyvat.
I think the best way to handle it would be to give a special "new account" buff that allows newer players to either convert materials to that of another region, or maybe just bypass the region lock altogether. Not sure how hard it would be to properly implement, especially with how much their dev teams are always working on new content, but... That's my thought.
You think they care enough to do that tho? Business wise, they don't want to spend some money to make new big feature for new player that mostly rage quit after failing 40 wish.
It's a decent look on it, however having multiple accounts I can say it's not anywhere as bad as you make it seem. One of my accounts only has 2 level 50 and 2 level 40 characters and has reached Inazuma no problems. Getting there with just level 40s is easily doable, however the issue becomes game knowledge. I don't expect a new player who doesn't know about good artifact stats, base attack importance, talent levels, delaying world level increases, and reactions/resonance to be able to do it without being told. What Genshin needs for newer players the most is better in-game guides on what is what and how it works, if they want to hide this in the archive so people can still play organically but curious gamers can search for it would be nice.
it's still easy because it''s still inazuma. But the problem is going to get bigger if a new player keep joining on every update. what they should do when the game is in Natlan? Sneshnaya? chapter "▇"?? They got Dain... nice, but how they gonna push the character beyond level 40/40?? Their Dain is locked until weeks later at least.
I made an alt and it was a total nightmare. I pulled Gorou twice on standard banner and he was totally useless--why would I buff my geo characters when he's my only geo character. I struggled hard to build my team, which was mostly cryo characters entirely due to luck pulling Chongyun and Rosaria, because my only healer was Barbara who consistently gets frozen when fighting the cryo regisvine because she makes the active party member wet. It wasn't until Lantern Rite when Xingqiu and Yanfei showed up that I was actually able to progress past Liyue and into Inazuma, and I just barely made it to Watatsumi a few days ago. I am so glad I pulled Diona from Yae's banner, because if I'd pulled Thoma, I'd have to weigh the merits and drawbacks of taking the time to complete enough content to begin the Tsurumi quest vs. aiming for Enkanomiya for the purposes of engaging with the event. Despite pulling Ganyu (which was the original purpose of the alt, to play with/test out characters I don't have on my main), I ended up quitting because the grind wasn't fun. I'll probably return after a two+ week hiatus so I can get the login bonuses and try to pull for more characters that may serve me well. I'm fully aware that delaying my world level increase would have made the game much easier for me, but I couldn't help it--I needed to increase my world level in order to increase my AR in order to unlock the content necessary for me to play the limited-time events. But there's something else I noticed. Matching for any domain beyond the lowest level never gets me anywhere anymore. So there's even more incentive to rush to AR45 so my alt can actually match with other players and begin farming talents without a boatload of buff/revive items on hand.
Genshin was designed to be a casual game, so your experience is not the norm. New players joining will have a hard time catching up as more content is released. I started around Raiden’s banner, pulled Raiden, but couldn’t even get her levels up because I was casually going through the story. And this is just Inazuma…
@@silver.shoelaces ah yes, the other reason why Genshin is nightmare for new players; artifact farm. Unless they have friend to help, good luck matching with people in AR 40. I have alt account in AR29, and searching for co-op in domain kinda hell now. Unless it's for weapon ascension or talent book, artifact domain is dead for lower level.
Yeah I feel this. I’ve been trying to get all my friends to get into Genshin but like… Me and my friends that have been playing Genshin for a year+ are all AR 56-59, and it’s SO hard for a new player to get up. Between 3 friends I have that are “new”, 1 is still trying after 2 ish months to get up and is AR 45, but the other 2 just gave up around AR 15-20
Seeing them fully upgrade their copium 4star artifacts makes you wanna tell them to wait until AR45 to get at least a 5star, but that is pretty much the fastest way to make them quit :(. We love the game because of all the time we invested into our accounts, but for those who started recently and want to catch up to you, it must be so frustrating!
@@lucianoshimabukuro4443 You know what, I actually don't regret leveling my 4 star artefact. They helped me through early game, finished the abyss corridor with a lot of them, unavoidable to make some part more enjoyable, less tedious and they ended up as fodder in the end. It's all part of a genshin impact player's journey, inevitable.
I have this exact problem, I've been playing since day one and am currently AR 56 (because at some point i for some reason stopped doing daily commisions for like 4 months) I really love the game and play it lots but get burnt out for weeks not spending resin etc. My friends started playing but eventually gave up on the game at AR 15-25 because they found it too much work and taking too long. Meanwhile i created a new account and reached AR 32 in 3 days...
@@4katcat Ofc not, most of us who started close to the realease date have very fond memories of past artifacts, the excitement of the first 5 star character and the ones that carried us hard but we don't use anymore :). I really hope new players can play at their own rythm without getting anxious for not being able to participate in some of the current events because they're a bit behind in the story or exploration!
I remember that I got my Thoma on my 5th roll when I was just starting and I looked over all Mondstadt only to find his ascension materials on Inazuma at AR30 or so. I think it's kinda tiresome since I like him before and if I built him and raised him just like my Rosaria and Diluc I would've used him all the time. Plus one of my friend who just joined Genshin got Yae Miko but is also just started playing and currently at Ar28, she got so bored and tired of the game since it took so long to progress so she decided to just give up. So yeah I think this is an issue that is needed to be addressed
This happened to me when I got Thoma. I was so excited when I got him because I fell in love with the character since his first design was leaked... just to see that I have to unlock an island by making 4 missions of 5 hours each to unlock one material. It sucks and I hope they improve this in a future and add something like a shop to trade materials with other players.
My idea of fixing this issue is : Regional Banners. Banners that would always bring maybe 1 or 2 5* characters from their respective regions, and you'd have to be at a minimal level to unlock these banner before pulling in them. This would prevent the issue of new players getting characters they can't upgrade, and also keeping new players interested in progressing through the game, so they can unlock more regional banners and thus, new characters. Let's say you're a new player, and you want Hu Tao or something. You install the game, learn how the system works and start your journey in Mondstadt. Right now, this player would have only the Mondstadt Regional banner available, so even if he did get luck and let's say, get Venti, then he would be able to upgrade Venti because he can find the right things to upgrade Venti. And once he's done with the Mondstadt chapter, he unlocks the Liyue regional banner, and then, he can start not only exploring Liyue and it's story, but also pull for Hu Tao. This system would also make it easier for characters to have their reruns in less time. Instead of waiting 1 year for a Venti rerun, we could get it every 2 months or something, since all the Mondstadt characters would continue to be in rotation for the Regional banner. And the same goes for every other region. If this system were to ever work, then Hoyoverse would NEED to change Shenhe's materials, because enkanomyia is not part of Liyue, nor it is close to being unlocked at Liyue. Right now i believe Shenhe is the only character with this material problem being not on her region, so surely they could learn from that and make sure no more of that happens. Once regions like Fontaine and Natlan comes out, this system would probably be a must, specially for news players, but also for any regular player that is waiting for a rerun of a certain character and doesn't wants to wait a whole year. This is my solution :)
So you can’t for example pull for a character from sumeru until you unlock sumeru and as you unlock each nation a new regional banner will be unlocked ?
@@whoscatimi7590 Yup! That is to make sure people won't get characters they can't level up because of region locked materials and etc! It would also keep people interested in unlocking more areas of the game so they can have access to a wider set of characters they can pull for!
Honestly that sounds like an actual great suggestion, although as you said some characters need mats from Enka so yeah Still think this is the best suggestion
I also thought of something similar to this, so I really like your idea, but also wanted to add that Yun Jin would also need to change her materials as well, because she needs the Golden Wolflord boss.
there's one thing that we are forgetting when we say that some characters need materials from Inazuma. The thing is that Inazuma according to lore is a closed nation which can only be accessed through archon quests. but the other future regions are a part of a huge continent without a "sea barrier" so we might just be able to walk to the other regions just like we can walk to Liyue even at AR 2
But there's also the possibility that the boss tou need is locked behind an archon quest. You can bonk the pyro flower as soon as you get to Liyue but to access the Vishap duo fight you first need to finnish the Innazuma archon quest, so we have no garentee that new players can just stumble upon what they need like many of us did by falling down the icelandic salad hole. Or I'm just being overly paranoid.
@@flowerthinking6206 true, but weekly ascension materials are already locked behind AR 30, or what you need to get to inazuma, so it's not as big a concern.
I feel like, if you are new and don't do you research, you wouldn't know where the bosses are located so you'd follow the questline anyways, unlocking the regions in that exact order
Very good point. But they can still make some maze to lock some places. This is the occasion to make it so the material dungeons are available while some other parts remain locked.
I could see something where like a trader NPC has a limited amount of ascension materials (Let's say enough to get a character of each element to say 60). That way you can hopefully keep a character relevant in your party for a bit longer. Perhaps have it be sort of like a sigil type currency. I mean you already can get the elemental crystal (I forgot the proper name) from sigil traders, why not enough to get you to 60? Another idea would just let people choose their world level (more than just -1). So if they have a lvl 40 character they liked, they can keep the game balanced around that. Much more of a bandaid solution, but it would be something. Honestly I think this should be added regardless (It'd be nice to not have to be able to play with some niche characters, like Aloy, but not having to invest them to at least level 70).
I feel like simply put, Genshin at this current state does not bode well for either new players or long term players. New players have a huge wall to overcome to unlock everything seeing as this game has been out for a decent amount of time and are more pressured to get the best units that will benefit them greatly. Long term players right now are experiencing burnout and lack of events to do also dying from bad Gacha luck lol. However, this is how most Gacha games work I guess. (Guys please read the comment section 364-Unbirthdays gave a way more detailed explanation than I did thx btw)
Hi! As a long term gacha player-I have been playing gacha games for about 6 to 7 years-I can assure you this is not the case for most games. Rhythm games and anime-boy/girl raising simulators (e.g. Love Live, Ensemble Stars, Twisted Wonderland) games never have locks on their events, and while starting out with very low scores is a challenge, it doesn't actively hinder the development of your account to be starting one of them late in the game. Adventure/Role-playing gacha games (e.g. Fire Emblem Heroes, Arknights, FGO, Priconne) may sometimes have certain locks to their content and certainly do have grindy endgames, however this has been of course mitigated by certain elements each game has. All of them have events very frequently, ones at a larger scale with more things to do than Genshin's, which keep both new and old players busy. Fire Emblem Heroes is very quick at releasing main story sections so players always have new things they can enjoy. Arknights and FEH also both have 'challenge' stages where older players can challenge themselves with their units and game knowledge, with these challenge stages requiring much more than simply brute force (which is basically the only thing you need to do for Abyss in Genshin, which may make it boring to some). Priconne and Arknights both have skip tickets, which lets you play them passively while you are busy with something else- in the case of Priconne, the skip is instantaneous and thus very time-friendly. This is not the case with Genshin, which forces you to do everything manually, which makes it *feel* more grindy than it actually is. FGO is the interesting one here, and the one I am the most familiar with. On paper, it seems to be the same as Genshin- many events come with huge story locks, which lock players out. Newer units often require materials from areas that are only unlocked in the late game. The endgame is extremely grindy and FGO does not have a skip button. However, there are three big things that differ from Genshin. 1. The units. Unlike Genshin, FGO is not focused on damage rushing, even though most content creators do post videos of clearing boss fights in as little turns as possible. Thus there is a multitude of ways to play characters that aren't just "do a lot of damage really fast"- and even the damage-focused playstyle can be separated into six more categories. Additionally, FGO does not have something like artifact farming, meaning all characters come available with their 'max potential' unlockable. Simply not having to deal with the frustrating RNG of artifact farming is also something all the games I listed have as a pro. 2. The events. If FGO is so grindy but has no artifacts, what do players grind, then? The answer is materials for limit breaking and levelling the units and their three skills. Levelling skills is tough, especially when you're locked out of a certain material or you realize the character you have needs TWO HUNDRED of a certain material. However, all these problems are solved by events. Events have event shops that can guarantee 10~30 (depending on the rarity) materials, as well as often have nodes with greatly increased drop rates. Additionally, events that are not locked very high also generally contain materials that can only be found in story content that is very late into the game- which solves the problem of being unable to max limit break (or ascend) characters. These events are also very frequent. 3. The story. Even when people talk shit about FGO's horrible gacha rate or overly-grindy gameplay, they usually acknowledge that the story is good. And the story is not just 'good', it was good enough that they made it into a bunch of animes and movies that are *considered good in the anime scene* that are still looked at as inferior to game! Even light-hearted events generally have a strong story and even surprisingly heartwarming character moments that allow you to get to know the huge cast more and endear yourself to them. Even if you're locked out of an event, just like Genshin, the events are never NECESSARY, just a nice bonus with some free gems and gacha tickets. New players who do not want to concern themselves with these events can just enjoy the story that is unfolding before them... and if they don't, there's always the skip button. I also want to mention that the game has also added functions that allow newer players to speed through the story in order to reach events that might be locked a bit higher up, which is very helpful. Even HONKAI IMPACT, by the same developer, has a lot of the features the other games I mentioned have, which greatly improves its QOL and gameplay experience. However, the one point I will not refute is burnout. Burnout happens to players of all games, after all. However, I will make this point- it takes WAY more time to do anything in Genshin than it is to do in any other game, which may be one of the main contributing factors into Genshin burnout. I know it was one of mine.
For the world bosses, I can totally see a domain co-op type thing where you can enter a spiral-abyss type thing where you fight bosses of your chosen level. It allows new and/or struggling players who haven't caught up to co-op with someone else who might also be needing those boss drops-- or a veteran with nothing to do and wanting to help newbies. As for the materials, in order for the veterans not to abuse the shop feature, maybe some sort of exchange system? Five regional specialties of another region for one specific thing. it's not too broken for veterans to abuse and never play the game/explore, but it's enough for new players to get that 2 or 10 specific items to ascend their chosen character. Maybe you can even lock the option to exchange once you unlock the area.
i think the best solution to this would be an item like the dream solvent in that you get it from a boss, whether that be a weekly or just your run of the mill boss or even a specific ley line, that lets you transform boss mats into other regions boss mats. maybe another dedicated item for other regions books thats significantly more plentiful because you need literally HUNDREDS for 1 character. but just some items that let you do something on your level to change them into other resources like region specific flowers, books, boss mats, etc. that way you still have to grind for it a little and dont just buy it with mora or glitter but also lets you level up characters that you want before you hit the very end of the game.
The struggle is real. I started last year in about July and pulled Raiden as my first 5 star. Not wanting rush the game, or the story, or the exploration, and taking my time to build other characters, I only started properly building her in January because of where her materials were all located. Another major issue worth noting is how many events are also locked behind late game content. I missed out on so many free 4 star characters and Event Weapons in the first few months of playing, for effectively the same reasons, and it’s only getting worse! I almost caught up, but then they dropped Enkanomiya, and pushed be further behind, and the most recent Event with the Oathsworn Eye required me to effectively rush through to unlock Enkanomiya and rushed through that too just to get to unlock the event. Had it not been an unusually long +30 day long event I would never have unlocked that weapon, and I was already in Inazuma! I feel for anyone even remotely casual just starting out now as they don’t stand a chance.
I hope that a solution comes from this and they can tie it into a quest. Imagine doing a bit with Beidou establishing tradeports, so you can go to the dock of each city to exchange wares for those of other nations.
I think you underestimate the time it takes to get to Enkanomiya (or I misunderstood). It won't be 40-50h, it will be closer to 80-100h. Seikopo managed to get to AR30 in a week, around 60h, and he already played the game extensively. One solution might be to have a Mondstadt/Liyue character rerunning every patch (or more if it fits current events) for starting players and communicate clearly that you can only raise the new units to lv.40
Probably one of the best solutions to this problem that I've heard is for genshin to add a vendor per region that trades boss materials for different boss materials from other regions. For example, if you want inazuma materials then you need to trade with the mondstadt merchant, if you want Sumero materials then you have to go to the Liyue merchant. I'm not sure about how to deal with world ascension materials but maybe they should just give that flower selling kid in mondstadt the option to sell every open world ascension mat so that new players don't need to speed to Inazuma just to get Yae Miko to level 50
This probably won't work because of us, the veterans who would abuse such a system. I didn't have a pyro character for a long time but I could beat the anemo cube. So this incentivizes me pulling. But once I have a system in place like this, all I need to do is be able to beat one boss and exchange stuff for the rest. Now I don't pull at all. One way to fix would be to remove the fixed lvl 40 limit and make it variable, which will scale with AR. Once you catch up let them charge exorbitant boss materials. That way char remain usable. For flowers, making a flower bed available at the start with all materials along with parametric transformer type thing that gives materials in a ratio might work. But again, we'll abuse it
@@sahilrai5519 yeah, veterans would abuse it but considering how this problem is just going to get worse and worse as the player base grows I still think such a merchant will be a must have, and maybe just have it be that for players above AR 40 that they need 4 boss drops to trade for 1 different kind of boss drop. Honestly, there is very little chance such a system would be implemented and if it did then it would prob cost resin.
Personally I feel that we as a community worry more than Mihoyo themselves. We have seen time and time again that they hold little regard for their player base, even through countless complaints and cries from everyone, be it the average player to their own influencers. Judging by the rate of unlocking, it's safe to say that genshin has another good 2-3 years in it in terms of unlockables, each new region being it's own new cash grab. They don't care about potential problems or struggles, they just see the dollar signs, and each new region, and each new character is more dollar signs. What we can see them doing already, is offering certain new materials in the paimon shop, for currency obtained from pulling on banners, and in my opinion, this is Mihoyo's way of moving the game forward, to where you "can" obtain limited materials that you might not yet have acces to, through money spending. That said, what they could do, is make certain character banners locked behind Adventure rank, or progression or what not, to protect players from this exact pitfal of ending up with useless characters. other than that, the fact that new players would have to go through the 4* experience as most of us have when we began isn't a bad thing... In some way it's pretty natural to start a game not with game breaking characters, but with the free handouts given to start with.
Part of this issue stems from the banners themselves. I feel like having region-specific banners alongside the standard banner could be nice. Players who haven't unlocked Inazuma would just not roll on the Inazuman character-only banner and so forth. Would this solve the issue of new characters in limited banners? No, not unless they were then put into their respective region banners/standard banners like the video mentions. As others have already stated, the "traveling merchant" exchange mechanic for trading materials of equivalent rarity and effect would also solve a lot of the ascension issues, too. A combination of that and banner reworks would be nice.
Being a casual player can be hard too. I started playing Genshinn when Liyue was the newest and Zhonglie was announced and released maybe a couple weeks into when I started. Then I stopped playing for like 3 or 4 months and am so behind on things and missed so much! It can be a hassle ya know? Feeling like you have to be playing pretty constantly or you'll miss something.
[ This was written before the video premiered ] I was lucky enough to get Kazuha during the Golden Apple Archipelago event, and was able to farm the needed amount of materials before they were gone. I can't imagine how annoying it must've been for the players who got him, but weren't as fortunate as me, and had to wait until Inazuma's release. It's understandable to lock things like domain levels behind a player's AR, because that's just a case of game/power scaling progression. But locking Inazuma is not a game mechanic, but a story one. I guess Hoyoverse decided the clash between story and gameplay would be too high if they didn't include the storm barrier. Of course, there would've been confusion and complaints if they didn't do it, but in doing so has caused a countless amount of players to have characters stuck at level 40 or below until they complete the two *long* archon quests.
That was me, only my AR wasn't even high enough to go to the golden apple archipelago so there was just no way at all to ascend Kazuha 😭 Made me quit the game for a few weeks
That’s false though golden Apple island could be unlocked after you complete the mondstand final act which is ar20 and all kazuha mats you need where in that island. You could easily level him to 80 with talent level 6
As a pretty early game player, I think it was and is still (bc I haven’t completed all the quests) fun to do the quests. It was really exciting to get to Inazuma and unlock some other things. I think as a new player you can still have a lot of fun.
Ive been thinking about this for a while, but I think later on in the game, genshin should have a banner for each region. Im thinking that when they release a new character, that character WILL NOT be on their region’s banner until their character banner is over. This solves rerun problems and helps players “select” who they want.
this doesn't sound anywhere accessible. just like how the video mention, if this game have more banner this would just end up creating more dilemma for player. several issues are: 1. limited primogem, it doesn't matter how many banner you get, because the primogem you get within a banner period is very limited unless you saved up or top up a little, there's no way you could have enough even for 2 event banner character (I don't even want to talk about weapon yet). is impossible for them to give out more primogem because that would make getting people that target one banner too easy 2. Weapon Banner. more character banner = more weapon banner. if you have multiple character banner that means sooner or later we have multiple weapon 3. losing 50/50 and 75 pity sharing accross banner. currently in the game there's 2 event banner and they share the same 50/50 and soft pity, do you think you could come close to getting 2 of the character banner? 4. Old Player Vs New Player Mentality. ask yourself this, if currently there's 5 older character banner rerun, would you pull any of them? I know I won't, because I would much rather saved up the primogem and wait for the new content I hate the current 2 event banner, this actually promote impulse buying to player and it doesn't help give new player more accessible because of the limited primogem we have, and if 2 banner is doing well this would only make Mihoyo take the next step creating 3 Event Banner
This will make the characters even rarer because of multiple 5 stars And if they put a single 5 star then there is no point in such banner as its the same thing as a rerun banner
