Jack - enjoyed your content - especially focused on DF83. You up-sold me from DF64 to DF83 at 2x price - kind of a big deal. Really enjoy your detailed but coherent insights in such a well-conceived package. You have a skill and facility that falls well within the class of your well-known and respected peers. Keep up the great work!

I really learned to appreciate the contents of your videos Jack. You seem to have quite a good palate and easily verbalize the nuances, characteristics and differences between two cups, which is easier said than done ;) What I keep from this comparison is that both these grinders do great with roasts across the spectrum, for espresso. Seems the Shurikones actually do even better than just great! The MC5 may very well be the most versatile espresso grinder at the moment. Your DF83 videos have convinced me that it's the right grinder for me. Thanks 👍

Thank you for watching. I verbalise it easily, possibly because I have limited vocabulary 😛. Since I started my coffee adventure I have learned a lot. The sense of taste is like a muscle- we all have them, but the more you train the better they become. I bought myself The Flavour Thesaurus book to help with my adventure. You should be happy with DF83- really good value for money and tastes great as well.

Amazing that the DF83 can compete with a grinder that is 4x the price of it. Once there are Ssp burrs in the DF83 it will be even closer.
@mycoffeeshow111
@mycoffeeshow111 Год назад
Yes, I think so. With Kafatek you pay for that attention to details, burrs alignment and so on. DF83 with SSP burrs is no longer a mid range grinder and it will have to fight with big boys equipment. I strongly feel it can do it or at least it won’t be far behind.

My DF83 funnel also rattles, it looks like they semi-thoughtfully included a silicon gasket on the funnel to prevent that from happening, however it's too tiny to actually do anything. Using the same funnel on a DF64, it doesn't seem to rattle, or not as much anyway, so it seems to vibrate less. So they just need to tweak the DF83 to vibrate less (Eureka somehow did it on the Oro Single Dose grinder) or even easier tweak the design of the silicon gasket on the funnel so it fits a bit more snug on a portafilter. My DF83 doesn't jump or slip around, you might want to clean the coffee grounds off your counter and wipe the feet with a damp cloth and it might fix that, unless 220v (you're in 220v land right?) DF83s just start with more Torque maybe.

I think they wanted to be as cost effective as possible. I am sure future versions will solve some of these issues. Overall, for the price I don’t have many complaints. The electric wire is the biggest annoyance. We have proper electricity here- 220. Maybe that is why it costs so much

@@mycoffeeshow111 I didn't love the 64mm SSP burrs either but they might need seasoning before they're good. I didn't think they did well for grinding coarser for aeropress either. I did get a chance to try a shot from the original 80mm sweet lab burrs at my buds roaster / espresso shop and it was pretty nice. Good natural sweetness, decent clarity and body. The 64mm SSP cast was nothing like that at least, pre-seasoned. So not sure if they can pull off something better or not with the 83mm burr size, maybe that geometry does just work better on a larger burr and doesn't scale down nicely.

Hello! New to the channel. Thank you so much for this comparison. I am just wondering if Kafatek offers an MC5 that can handle commercial loads, motor and burr wise. Would you know anything about this? Additionally, if you ever pick up the SSP HU burrs for the DF83, I'd love to know how they compare to the Kafatek. Check out the Timemore Sculptor 078. I am receiving one in a few days and I am very excited for its pourover output. Lastly, if you like handgrinding for your pourover, please consider picking up the 1Zpresso Zp6. I promise you it is the best conical burr handgrinder for pourover if you are looking for a more unimodal grind distribution. I would say it is 5-10% better than C40, and 64mm SSP Brew Burrs v1 (original version of the MP with slightly lower fines) is around 5% better than Zp6. If you have any friends in Taiwan, it is only around $150 compared to $199 internationally (though I think the $199 comes with shipping?).

Thank you very much! I think Kafatek is mostly for home use. It takes about 20sec to grind 18g which would be too slow. You can ask on Kafatek forum for more details. I think I will wait for the new 83mm cast burrs- this could be interesting. I am considering to buy Timemore 64s on Kickstarter to review. Possibly we will be getting new DF64 V soon as well. As for hand grinders, maybe at some point I will get it but have to sell some I already have- not enough space in my tiny flat.
