I would love to hear your scrappy ideas for what I should do with all these scraps!

I do “15 minutes of play “ every morning. Take my scraps and just start sewing. Thursday evening I press everything and Friday I trim. Small pieces go back in the pile and I do this until I have 10” squares, which I use as alternate blocks for my project Linus quilts.

Love that idea! A good sewing play session is awesome. Sounds like you have a process to help move it from play to finished project too which is great.

Hi Kristen : ) Those scraps are beautiful! So, I've had three great ideas for how to use them but limited time to explain them all here 😂 Also, I remembered you're the absolute Queen of scraps with some of the most beautiful, creative designs I've seen. So I've decided to wait and see what you choose to do with them. Thank you for being such an inspiration and bringing us along with you 😊

Gorgeous fabric. I’m not a quilter but I would make patchwork bags and tons of scrunchies with these! 😊

When I first saw the Fassett collections I was hooked. They are exciting, colorful and so what I would have gone nuts for when I was in college. That was over 50 years ago. I've been buying end of bolt fabrics, I want a collage quilt but with a plan. I've considered a color wash, and a geometric of shapes repeated throughout the top. First I need to work up the thought of cutting these glorious fabrics. Whatever I do, it can't be traditional, it must be free to go where it wants to go.

That sounds awesome. I used some Kaffe Fassett fabrics in a collage quilt I did for a friend. They work really well. And it is easier to commit to cutting if you also commit to using all the scraps. I put steam a seam on the back of a whole piece first and then cut out what I wanted for what I was working on and so still have leftovers already with steam a seam on for another project in future.

Those fabrics are so colourful and unique I would like to see them accented in a stained glass look or even like you did in another video where you framed them in black and then really hi light them by surrounding the black with white !!!

Loved seeing your haul! I really like some of KF, but not all. I watch another RU-vidr, Conquering Mount Scrapmore with Brenda, that has a zillion ideas for scraps. It's a fun channel. I love all of your designs too so I can't wait to see what you make. Will definitely look into your ideas for buying scraps!

I always say the only thing better than your scraps are someone else's! They buy things you wouldn't have bought yourself and add a lot of variety to your quilts!

That's quite a haul! I have found Kaffe Fassett fabrics to be a challenge for me sometimes - they are so intense. I did make a quilt I was very happy with; it was a star pattern using gray blenders, and all the star points are Kaffe. The grays toned down the wild colors, and it turned out great. But I think no matter what you come up with, you need a blender or background of some kind to tame all those colors. An all over HST quilt with each one being half Kaffe and half a solid or blender would be great. You can never go wrong with HST's - and you can use all those squares and triangles.
@ScrapFabricLove
@ScrapFabricLove Год назад
Yes it think you are right I need to mix in some solids so you can even appreciate these prints! It will still be a busy quilt but hopefully not as busy!

What a great haul!! Wow so much you can do with those. With my triangle scraps I like to make wonky star points that either go around a scrap square or a crumb pieced square. Those blocks are great for baby & kid quilts. Log cabin blocks are always a good choice but when it comes to scraps, I really like the 1/4 log cabin block set on point. I can't wait to see what you will do with these awesome fabric scraps.

Nice haul! I have just started collecting his fabrics, they are fun. I still haven’t finished your last quilt a long, but taking the time to watch your video instead. I am almost finished a quilt a long with my quilt guild, so will square up the blocks from your quilt a long a get sewing………..😮 yikes

Slow and steady…there is always time for a little break 😂! You’ll get both of your projects done in time I’m sure. Thanks for stopping to watch.

Add a solid or blender 2.5" strip to center block. Then use your KF strips in a string quilt block. Alternate blocks with your solid/blender to make a quilt. Small projects: purse, table runner, mug rugs, small bags, vest.
@ScrapFabricLove
@ScrapFabricLove Год назад
Thanks! Yes I definitely think mixing these with solids is the way to go you are right.

I would make some "wonky" log cabin blocks with the triangles as the center. I think to add an element, I might also try a block with a few solid kona fabric strips in colors that go with the other wild strips in the block. Another idea is a string quilt on some type of foundation(either plain thin cotton or maybe paper). The triangles would help finish the blocks on the corners. Paduca is having a sale on Kaffe fabric today, so I have been thinking about getting some 10" pre cuts to play with. I am looking forward to seeing what you decide to do!

I love the triangles. HSTs have a special place in my heart. i would take a 5"(6",7", etc.) block and snowball the corner with them. like maybe a denim square (wink wink) with a Kaffe corner. The strips look like honey bun strips (1.5"). Maybe a negative space quilt so the strips can pop.

I made a Pineapple Quilt using a Kaffe Fassett fat quarter bundle and a Kona cotton fat quarter bundle of purple solid fabrics. It turned out great. I think when using Kaffe fabrics you need some solids in the quilt for a place for the eye to rest. His fabrics are great but really wild and colorful. PS I used the AccuQuilt Pineapple Die for the quilt and it was super easy to use. I would have never tried it with a ruler and rotary cutter.
@ScrapFabricLove
@ScrapFabricLove Год назад
Yes I’m definitely thinking mixing with solids is the way to go. Thanks for th pineapple suggestion! I’ve done a few FPP but I don’t have that die. Might need to look into it!

Log cabin sounds good for inner block then maybe use triangles as a scrappy border, love so fuzzy cut looking blocks could be used for centres, 😊
@ScrapFabricLove
@ScrapFabricLove Год назад
Yeah - I was thinking those flower ones with the stripes behind might be good for the centre of a log cabin block maybe? Good idea about the triangles!

I think the one I used was the U.K. quilters guild facebook group for this but I’m in a number of them. Just search for fabric destash or fabric buy and sell in your area. I talked about these groups and what to search for in my 9 ways to buy cheap quilting fabric video. Hope you find one near you!
