Thank you so much for this video! This has helped me put into perspective the varying responses I get from my nieces and nephews when they are presented with their graduation quilts...last year my niece was "underwhelmed" (not gonna lie that stung a bit) and this year my twin nieces were "over the moon" with theirs. Will keep making them and gifting them but will focus on the enjoyment I get during the process and (try to) worry less about the reaction of the recipient...although next years graduate will be a tough one, thinking of maybe having her shop with me to pick some fabrics so she won't be as "underwhelmed" as her sister, lol.
I've been blessed to be able to distribute quilts donated to the Linus Project to teens in residential care. Every single one of those quilts were received with love and appreciation! It's important to know that teens love to wrap themselves up in their quilts and some of those kids are like full size adults! Just an idea for anyone; Linus Project is nation wide and always grateful for donations.
Look at your setting or programming feature. My Quilting Centre’s owner gave me a one on one tutorial and showed me how to change the setting for needle down for my personal feature setting.
I'm new to quilting and only want to do QAYG, have been trying to figure out how to QAYG an existing pattern (that is not QAYG but is in blocks) without changing the pattern's measurements. This might be THE way! So, I'll have blocks with applique on them, and that's the front. Follow pattern instructions for all those first, then add each square one at a time, layering as I go like you did here, quilt it, and then add the next one .... this should be my answer. (The pattern I'm looking at is WallFlower at Missouri Star Quilt, which uses 10" layer cakes for the blocks/applique). I tried asking in a FB group and I got "there's lots of YT videos" and that was it. Everything I saw was "I designed this QAYG pattern....", when what I wanted was to use an existing pattern I like without screwing up measurements or having to add sashing. But, here you are, I found you, and I think I'll practice this a bit. Thank you!
Hope it works for you! There is a part two to this video that is about using this method for quilts with blocks and rows which I imagine is what you are talking about - it’s here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I5dxdZS8vHk.htmlsi=X8TwDr6wbEt0mzJz
A great concept for a colaboration. How fun to do. You have me thinking.... To do this you have to be open to someone elses vision of working. Looking forwardd to see how this goes.
Loved watching this, loved seeing your baskets of colors. I need to sort some of my fabric by color instead of designer or line. Looking forward to seeing the collaboration!
Love the collaboration idea! I think your styles will mesh well, and can’t wait to see each step of your quilt! Voting for the black denim to make all the colors pop!
I like the Kaffe or the orange batik with the leaves. Sorry but the black denim does look nicer. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Hopefully I’ll see it in person as I’m actually going to the festival of quilts this year, I’m so excited 🎉
How fun! I see familiar names in the comments for this. I am looking forward to seeing what the 2 of you make. I have been subscribed to Tom's channel for a while now. Yes I am getting your emails Kristen because of the big blocks quilt.
Hey, Kristen! This sounds like a fabulous collab! I’m already subscribed to both of your channels. I think I learned of his channel from you a while back. I prefer the black denim, because it really makes the colours pop. It would also create a clear break between your sections and Tom’s. I think the inherent texture in the blue denim would muddy the waters. I’m really looking forward to following the progress in this project. Thank you, and stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
I am looking forward to your collaboration with Tom, I am already subscribed to his channel. I enjoyed watching your thought process matching fabric. Thanks for taking us along.
When I got on RU-vid this morning and saw your video, my mind immediately said "Oh, my friend posted a video". I thought you would like to know even though we've not met I think of you as a friend and really enjoy your channel. You inspire me to create! ❤Andie
"Goes with" is not the same as Match.... not even close. ))I'm waiting to see what blocks you will choose to sew. Close color nearly match so it looks like only one person made the quilt... or enough different that it coordinates the two workers. Are these 5 colors his ONLY colors for the whole quilt, or just for the one center block? IF whole, the next frames will need more diversity. Does he build on your choices to make his frame "match" or "go with"? Are your frames mostly print vs his solids? Choosing only half the fabric and structures is going to be fun. ))
Yes I’m pretty sure those are the only colors he is using. I’m not going to do my section in blocks but he is doing his that way. Not sure if he will alter his after he sees mine or not 😂 that will be part of the mystery!
I think the Kaffe fabric works very well with the other fabrics. And I love the black denim because I like high contrast. I am really excited to see how the quilt turns out! ❤❤❤❤❤
I gave a quilt to a relative for his wedding. The marriage lasted two days and I had no idea what happened to the quilt for about 8 months. I believe he ended up with the quilt but I never heard another word about it. I look at it as every quilt has a story and this is the story of this quilt!
Yesterday I gave a quilt as a gift at a bridal shower. The bride to be was so moved because I know she values hand made items, the color of the quilt is her bridesmaid dresses color cause it is her favorite color. I investigated and by knowing her was able to make a quilt she will treasure forever. We need to do our homework and make sure someone will actually love a quilt. When she thanked me and told me how she loved it I told her that's why she got a quilt. Not everyone gets a quilt cause not everyone loves a quilt. I watched your video when I was hand sewing the binding on and for a moment I second guessed giving it to her. Thank you for this great video.
Glad you didn’t back out of giving it! I wasn’t trying to discourage anyone from gifting at all! So glad she loved it and I’m sure she will treasure it! Good point about the ‘homework’.
@@ScrapFabricLove oh I didn't feel you were discouraging at all but to reevaluate our actions and make sure the recipient actually would want the quilt and not because we want to give. Which is why I craft for charity. It satisfies both desires.
I sewed on a Bernina 1230 for years and had no issues with at all. When the main board burned out, I decided to trade it in on a Bernina B570QE. I find it very easy to use and love it. It was also a floor model.
