DIY Fabric Necklace - use tiny fabric scraps and leftover strips!

This is a fun zero-waste sewing room project. Use a leftover long strip of fabric - either a jelly roll strip or a wider strip cut off the edge of a quilt backing for example. Then grab your pile of sewing room fabric trimmings and get started!
This necklace was inspired by a fabric covered bead necklace I own that is too heavy to wear very often. These are more comfortable and use up some fabric scraps that might otherwise end up in the bin! Win win!

What fun things do you make with your fabric trimmings? Would you wear a necklace like this?

I think they might sell at a craft fair or we have had a sustainability festival here in Geraldton Western Australia 🇦🇺 . But I have oodles of trimming in pots sitting around so why not. Cute gifts 🎁 😍

I think they could sell too! I am thinking of doing these for Xmas gifts…thinking ahead! Especially for all the friends who have already had a quilt 😂

These would make lovely teething necklaces! Or even just safe necklaces for babies to fiddle with while being held or nursed. Easy to toss in the washer, too!

Have seen this done with wooden beads, but never with leftover fabric! What a great idea!

Those are both cute! I collect slivers in a small trash bin beside the cutting table and put them in the compost. They make pretty sparks of color before the flowers bloom. They get covered over with Fall leaves, but they make me smile early in the year. Scrap Quilters are fanatic recyclers to begin with. Thanks for the pretty project. ))

These are so much fun. I think I may still have one I made as a teenager. We used wooden beads. But I love your suggestion of using up bits of scraps from the re-cycle bin!

Great ideal. I too like the smaller one best. I might give it a try but will use perhaps 3 inch strips to make it easier for my arthritic hands. Have a pleasant day.

Yes I have made these before but I added some polymer clay tube beads that I made and a clasp from wire.

I like this idea for little girls but put magnets in the end instead of tying. She could even link a couple together to make it more interesting.
