I like this theory, it really shows what danzo is capable of, why rain village felt isolated and likely how Kakashi got his experience of disguise. Honestly the click bait made me doubtful at first, but this SOUNDS like a solid theory, though no way to really confirm this as it's at best vaguely or barely hinted much less implied, that explicitly stated or even proven 😅. But this line of thought is good deduction, any viable possibility is worth discussing. 👍🏾

Ngl, I think it's a bit of a stretch having Kakashi in the Akatsuki but him not having any relevant information about Nagatos rinnegan for example he could use in his fight against pain or give to Tsunade to help her figure out more of the Akatsuki. Also, I believe he didn't know the name Akatsuki when it was first mentioned to him which I find weird if h really was in the first Akatsuki, could remember this one wrong tho. On a different topic, Rin had purple markings on her face and it is my head canon Kakashi chose the purple color for his photographer identity to sort of resemble hers while also hiding his sharingan. That's why they aren't on his cheeks like with Rin, they still need to be practical

Season 1 episode 11 of Shippuden. When Temari assembles her rescue party to go after the Akakski, before she is told by the sand village council she cannot, and granny chio goes instead. If you look closely the shorter woman behind her bears the same purple markings you described. Just another person I’ve found to have those same purple face markings.

Hanzo and many other villagers had heard of the Akatsuki and stories of what they wanted and who had started it. It's not unlikely that danzo would have heard about them without the anbu.

Also, it's possible that those two super-suspicious Akatsuki members that look to be an "Inuzuka" and a "son of Mito" are _actually_ just that. They really _are_ an Inuzuka and one of Tsunade's uncles. In all likelihood, judging by the age the would-be Senju is, he probably defected shortly after or towards the end of the Second Great Shinobi World War after seeing how badly Hiruzen and Danzo botched the ideals his father Hashirama had left behind for Konoha; the "Inuzuka" probably followed him, seeing as he appeared to be a bit too young to have ever met with Hashirama or Tobirama. Except, of _all_ the Shinobi who could have defected from Konoha, these are _literally_ some of the _worst_ ones to have done so. The _son of the First Hokage_ and a scion of one of the most prominent Clans in the Village? Those are some _really bad optics_ for Konoha! And _none_ of the Hidden Villages look kindly on defectors, typically dealing with them using a combination of sharp knives, bone-saws, and acid. But _how_ do you liquidate members of a powerful NGO without casting some serious suspicion and criticism on Konoha? Well, the _logical_ choice is to have them leave that NGO, either willingly or by having said NGO dissolved. I'd make the argument that this is the _real_ reason that Danzo made moves against the Akatsuki; he needed to find a viable way for Root to hunt-down big-name targets without raising any red flags against the Hidden Leaf, and he was already getting concerned with Hanzo's power, so he arranged to pit the two factions against one-another so he could swoop-in and finish-off the survivors without leaving any witnesses or evidence of his involvement. It's not like he'll be publicizing "Hey, Tsunade, your uncle was a traitor so we hunted him down, tortured him for information, stabbed him forty times, dissected him, and then dunked what was left in ninja-acid. We're cool, right?" If Danzo did his job right, nobody would ever have to know what happened to the Senju or the Inuzuka, or even that they were defectors; for all everyone else knew, they vanished without a trace during the Second Great Shinobi World War and are presumed to have been slain by hostile forces while fighting for Konoha. Now, whether _he_ got to them or _Obito_ got to them is another matter entirely.

If this was the case, wouldn''t Kakashi have recognized Yahiko in Pain during their fight. Or mentioned that he has intel to Jiraiya about the Akatsuki that he may not have been privy to, like the mysterious leader's identity. It could just be a coincidence but at 8:25 when it shows a photo of the original akatsuki there a person on the right hand side in the middle row with a line marking going down each side of his face. In boruto when Kakashi poses as a journalist to see why the students want to be Genin, he wears the similar markings. In fact, the only difference in the markings is the color of them.

This is a very good theory, but it’s still a lot of ‘If’s and buts’ With the biggest fact disproving this theory is when Jiraiya mentioned to Kakashi about the Akatsuki, he mentioned he never heard of them before and it’s his first time learning about them. Also, Rin has the Purple marks on her face 😅
