Yeah this scene was so beautiful. In fact this whole season was so beautiful. This season heavily emphasized on how much Kumiko has developed as a person...
Apparently in the novels, Kumiko was the one who ended up playing the soli with Reina. KyoAni made a gutsy move to change things in the anime. Not only does it keep up the drama, but it also imparts the lesson that sometimes things just don't go the way you want and you have to stick to your principles if you want to succeed on your terms. Reina knew who was playing what. But yet she chose Mayu as her playing is technically ever so slightly better than Kumiko's, and Kitauji needs to bring its best if they are ever going to win that Gold in Nationals. It's still a gut punch to the soul the way things turned out though.
I read that around too, I think it was better this way, when I saw the person also mentions Mayu issues weren’t resolved and basically get glossed over, this way they gave Mayu the chance to heal from feeling guilty about her friend, it really showed how much Kumiko had matured, even tho it hurt it she will do what’s best for the band.
now everyone knows how Yuko felt when Kaori wasn't picked for the solo over Reina, this hurt so much, but Kumiko really has grown a lot as a character and it is what make this show great
Am I the only one who thought Reina made a mistake? People keep saying Reina was SURE that she was not selecting Kumiko (she's that cold), but I understood she selected the best one WITHOUT knowing it was Mayu, maybe even thinking it was Kumiko. Can someone comment?
Nope. Reina immediately knew which one was Kumiko's playing but she chose Mayu for the sake of the competition. As much as everyone want Kumiko & Reina play the soli, their end goal is to win gold which technical > feeling
@@asakithenovice Thanks. I had to hesitantly rewatch the scene at the city viewpoint and how Reina tells Kumiko the truth, Kumiko realizes, and emotional hell lets loose.
@Siesta007 Sally is still new, maybe when she got into 3rd year. Being in the school org myself before, I would assume Ririka is the best to lead as she is one of the section leaders and attends lead meetings even if she's 2nd year. She knows what are the ins and outs of the organization and the problems that her senpais have raised.
I still hate it, they change the original. Waited long and they did that. For the growth of the mc? FU!! and let our imagination continue the journey for kumiko?!? I just wanted our MC be the spotlight. Is it hard to ask. This is the last time this anime will air why they change it. This is the last or their sequel still the OG wont be there. Still frustrated. Come on kyoani why?
This is comment from an anime website. Also the last movie I check whats the ending and the ending is like that. She's soli and they won. So I'm so frustrated because we waited and the ending is an original BS if I say. LN version(comment from other website) "Kumiko wins the solo and plays with Reina they wins gold at nationals. She and Mayu become friends supporting each other decides to gives a copy of Sound! Euphonium song to both Mayu and Kanade making it a tradition to pass it down within in Kitauji,. Kumiko later becomes a teacher and comes back to Kitauji as a vice advisor for the wind ensemble."
I think you have to understand the hidden story of Hibike! Euphonium series. Relationship between Mizore and Nozomi had changed in the movie "Liz and the blue bird". Nozomi accepted new relationship with Mizore, and versa versa. In the hidden story of the series, the relationship between Mizore and Nozomi means Kumiko's self-reflection about her sin against Reina. The same kind of change in the relationship between Kumiko and Reina was depicted in original novel in Kumiko's third year, although that was depicted only in the hidden story. The anime 3rd season brings that hidden part to the surface story. We witnessed the tears of Kumiko in this episode, but that was just the same things as Nozoni's tears we witnessed in "Liz and the blue bird". So basically nothing has changed from the original novel. The fact that Kumiko lost against Mayu was not the point.
