Just 24 hrs exploring Kanchanaburi in Thailand. Watch this before you go! We leave our fantastic hotel, Kwai Tara Riverside Villa's and head for the War Museum at Kanchanaburi, short drive away. The museum is just 50 THB to enter regardless of nationality and I can highly recommend a visit here. It is full of artefacts from the WW2, mainly items left by Japanese troops who occupied the area and building the famous Death Railway.
We then take a short drive to Kanchanbauri War cemetery and pay our respects to the brave soldiers who lost their lives building the death railway under the brutal control of the Japanese. And expected the cemetery is immaculate. We will always remember their sacrifice these young men gave for our freedom. Lest we Forget!
Then its a 4 hr bus journey from Kanchanaburi to Bangkok just 150 THB, what a bargain! The journey was comfortable and I would def do it again. Then its a short taxi drive to the ‘Quarter Hotel’ located near the old train station. We only stay one night so its fine and breakfast is excellent!
The following morning its a sad farewell to out friends, Chris & Sue as they return to Uk. We have had 3 weeks constant travel with them all over Thailand. Its been a great time but I think we are all exhausted!

It was reported that the last known British survivor who was held captive by the Japanese and worked on the Burma Railway died on the 19th Jan 2024, he was 104 years of age, name Jack Jennings, google his name Jim and you can read about him and what it was like for the time he was there. Small snippet that may bring a smile to your face was that his daily meal whilst held as a prisoner was a daily diet of rice, when he finally made it home his Mum after finishing his dinner said "I've made your favourite for dessert Jack 'Rice Pudding'.

Such a very moving vlog Jim, the museum looked interesting and the cemetery was so well looked after a tribute to those young men who went through so much pain and brutality all so very young. Just heartbreaking, very sensitively done Jim .

Hi Jim, i have visited the cemetery a few times and yes its always pristinely looked after, the ages of those poor lost souls struck me, all so very young. Have you ever seen the Kwai Bridge re-enactment of the bridge bombing, its usually early December for a week, its fantastic, lots of pyrotechnics, i nearly fell of my seat when an underwater one close to me went off. I would highly recomend a viewing of this event if you get a chance one year, i wish i had a photograph of those elephants in the water, i would have that framed and on my wall. Cheers, thanks.

Yes totally agree, war is so pointless and horrific. I do worry that today things are escalating with the Russia V Ukraine situation.

Such a moving vlog Jim. The museum and cemetery offers great respect to those POWs that gave their lives building the railway. It's strange that despite many more non military fatalities there are relatively few cemeteries to honour the civilians that died. How long did it take you to train the mosquitos to attack Chris?

Hi Raymond, mosquitoes were everywhere at Koh Lipe and this was there first visit to Thailand. Both Nuch and I were Ok but I live in long trousers. Im sure they will be back in the future, lovely couple! All the best
