@@swathishkumar446 I have seen the entire Karnan film at least 30 times. And this song is based in the ragam Aabheri and is similar to Vizhiyil Vizhundhu from Alaigal Ooivadhillai. Aabheri is on of my favorite ragas in which we have songs like Nagumomu Ganaleni, Vellai Thamarai Poovil Iruppal, etc. And I keep murmuring this song atleast once in two days. Need more info?

This song is based on the Raga Sudhadhanyasi. Raga Sudhadhanyasi has been used in lot of melodies in tamil films. This is a raga that brings out the mood of happiness as much as it helps to bring out meditative calmness. Thank God raga is not named SudhaSanyasi - then it may not have been used in many love duets :-) MSV hit songs in this raga: 1. Kangal Enge (karnan) 2. Neeye unakku endrum nigaraanavan (Bale Pandya) 3. Thottaal poo malarum (padaggotti) Ilayaraja hits songs in this raga: 1. Vizhiyil vizhundhu (alaigal oyvadhillai) 2. Poovarsamboo (kizhakke pogum rayil) 3. maanjolai kilidhaano (kizhakke pogum rayil) 4. Maalayil Yaaro (Kshatriyan) 5. Ilaya Nadhi (manasellaam) 6. Enna solli paaduvadho (En mana vaanil) In Hindustani music the raga Gaundgiri closely resembles Suddhadhanyasi. The song “Gori tera gaon bada pyara” from “Chitchor” (music Ravindra Jain) is largely based on the Gaundgiri scale. Sung by Yesudas, this all-time favourite has folk touches too.

Actually, not pure Suddhadhanyasi, only the pallavi stays with this. the stanzas branch out, "Mani konda karam ondru, Anal kondu vedikum, Anal kondu vedikum Mani konda karam ondru, Anal kondu vedikum Anal kondu vedikum, Malar pondra idhazh indru, Pani kandu thudikum In these lines, Ri, and dha, begin to come in making it more Karaharapriya, but agree the prayaogam in the beginning is Suddhadhanyasi, and like you had wonderfully pointed out, it is the base raga for a lot of cine songs in earlier times (MSV, Ramamoorthy etc used pure ragas). more recent songs seldom stick to one raga, as it is not probably listener preference.
