I like how you laughed at the end saying "Girl, no". I don't like it when stranger customers call workers "honey" or "Sweety" in an arrogant tone. And if people say "No one has told me" very often means "I didn't care to listen because I'm always right". I hoped there was a second part where she is complaining to the manager.

I experienced the Exact same issue at a "Tilton" hotel that I used to work at. Our property was next door to an apartment community. The hotel had a few (mostly handicapped and unloading zone) parking spots right out front. The majority of our parking was in the back of the property. Anyway both guests and residents complained about Not having enough parking spaces available to them. The residents used spaces in our back lot constantly...It was an ongoing back and forth issue. Our GM posted signs saying our lot was for Hotel Guests Only. They installed extra security cameras and lights in our back lot to monitor the situation. One day a resident of the apartment community designated a handicap spot in the back as "Their Private Parking Spot." She was Not handicapped and did not have a car tag to prove otherwise. One of our frequent guests used that spot everytime they stayed with us...1-2x per month. The resident was Pissed when the Cops had their car towed during a routine security check of the surrounding area. The look on their face was Beyond Priceless. Because the car in question was a rental, they were still charged extra fees for Not returning the vehicle on time.

The correct quote is from Selfridge. "In matters of taste, the customer is always right." Nothing to do with customers being right, just humour their foibles about clashing colours etc.

Isn't it amazing how when you explain the situation and then Karen tries to Karensplain it to you as if her word changes the rules and regulations.

"The customer is always right..." The end of that phrase being "in matters of taste." It specifically only refers to what the customer wants to purchase from a retail establishment. It has nothing to do with anything else. People so often hear a phrase and want to apply it something it was never intended for and is completely out of the context of the original phrase.

If I ever worked a job like this, I'd get corporate to approve a waiver that says you understand and accept that parking anywhere but the "hotel parking in the back" specifically in those words means you accept responsibility for anything that happens to your car (damage, towing etc.). That way you just need to tell them "Park in the back or sign this waiver, otherwise I will need to call a towing company myself".

I would've called the towing company the minute Karen left. Most towing companies pay bounties to people who report towable cars.

I used to work in retail/discount auto parts, and I've had many conversations exactly like this, and I lost track of how many times it ended badly for the customer because he/she REFUSED TO LISTEN.

At the hotel I managed, parking was only a problem on those few nights when a lot of people were expected at a restaurant on our property had a huge banquet or a large meeting planned. Since we would get a week's heads up, we would bring in extra security to manage the lot. However, comma, years before when I worked at a different hotel, employee parking was at a dirt lot across the street, but when that lot was sold to some other company, employee parking was now in a movie theater parking lot (the hotel actually owned the property and the theater leased it) and that meant a 200 yard walk. Since security patrolled the lot and they knew our cars, you didn't park in guest parking, or else.

A few years ago, there was a family stying in the hotel I worked at. I had friday afternoon shift so I was the one checkin them in. They asked about parking and I clearly explained to the father , that the only parking possibility was at the hotels lot (paid) and that he was not allowed to park on the street ( in my city only residents are allowed to do that and you need a special permisson and your car s plate will be registered in system as there are quite frequent controls) He did not wish to pay for the parking and said we fill find a solution. By which I assumed he meant a parking house or app where he could rent a spot at a private garage. Sunday morning he came shouting to the reception that his car had been stolen. I asked where he left it and it turns out that indeed he had parked it on the street and was towed away. ....So the total getting a cab to the lot, the tow company fees as well as the parking fee on their lot equaled about 10x what we ask for parking.....

It never ceases to amaze me how people can have something explained to them perfectly but it just doesn’t register, and they just go around and around, to absolutely no avail. I’ve seen this happen at car rental facilities and also at a car mechanic.

The front desk employee did nothing but tell her she needed to move her car and say, "The only parking for this hotel is in the back." But the guest belittled the employee and insisted, "The customer is always right." Hope she has fun getting her car back. If it is a weekend or holiday she might have to wait a few days for the impound yard to open. Hopefully the hotel has rooms available for that long.

The one thing that I have been taught working in a small engine shop where things can go very wrong is that the customer is not always right, but they are still the customer. Meaning at the end of the day they are still the ones paying part of your salary. At least that’s how it is in my job field.

What hotel calls their GUESTS anything but guests? I've never heard of a hotel resident...except hotels named "Resident".

It amazes me how many people think they know more than the person (SME) who is tasked with making sure that nothing goes wrong.

A shocking number of people reject the concept of cause and effect. They do something that will have an inevitable result, then when the second thing follows the first, they can’t understand why.

We had this happen ALL the time at my hotel. Or people who would het mad when our complimentary parking lot in the MIDDLE OF THE CITY was full and they had to find street parking elsewhere.

I was staying at a hotel with onsite parking and parking passes you put in your car. I put one in my car window as they said and next morning went to the car to grab a hat and walk across the street to a nearby fast food place When I got back there was a truck lining up a grab arm to tow my car. When I asked why were they doing it they said parking was for the hotel only. I pulled the parking pass out of the car window to show tow driver and he started to stammer about why did I walk to a store instead of driving. Fortunately a local police was there and wanted to know how the tow driver know I walked across the street from that car. Turned out the tow truck had a spotter (illegal in the area) and the tow driver and spotter were arrested. The hotel canceled the contract with the tow company as well

Our hotel doesn't do parking passes (though I often times really wish we would...) and even then people can be incredibly dense about rules of parking, specifically the laws about handicapped parking. My parking spiel has evolved from "You don't need a pass as it's all free parking" to "You can park anywhere you want except handicapped" when people didn't realize that the ADA laws still applied (silly me for thinking the general public was that smart...) to "You can park anywhere you want except handicapped unless you have proper tags" after several people asked why they couldn't use handicapped parking if they had ADA tags (again, silly me for thinking the general public was that smart...).

But, after all that, she still thought she was right! She learned nothing!!

It's easy to make that mistake, but when it was pointed out to her, and she didn't listen, well...

I can only hope that the parking pass very clearly stated where it was valid

I think this is a very confusing situation and I'd be surprised if people aren't getting confused by that a lot! But once the staff explained to you the parking is not for you and you might get towed, it is completely on you if you ignore them and get towed. No sympathy here. Also please do another part where you remind her that you did warn her it might get towed but she refused to listen!!

I went to hotel parking lot. I saw “employee only M-F” as I turned around. *very small parking lot with levels going down a steep ridge* lady asks why. “It says employee only “. She says but not on weekend. I reply “it’s Thursday”. She was general manager of hotel. She assures me I would not have been ticketed, or towed. I was not so sure. I of course parked in correct marked level. Over her objections.. “you can park here, we are so short staffed the kitchen is closed, as well as bar”. It was during Covid scare.

What was better? "No one ever told me that!" Was that it? Or saying "honey" and "sweetie"?

I wonder🤔 though, what was her criteria for the "fantastic" parking spot that she could move to the Gated parking spot the hotel offered.

oh my lord I hate it when customers do the "Customer is always right." That's not even what that means! It means if a customer is willing to buy something even though there is a better offer let them buy it. I had so many people pull this on me but the worst was the grand opening of a store. I was working the deli the store had a bunch of sales because it was grand opening day. This lady comes in asking for an item we didn't have and when I told her we didn't have it she pulled that and I told her again well sorry we don't have that so I can't give you what we don't have. She then tells me I'm stupid and she's "Gotten it here for the past ten years so I know you have it!" She did not like when I burst out laughing and called everyone over to say "Look! a real life time traveler, she's been shopping at this store for ten years!" She said it again and we all had a good laugh before I told her it was opening day. She wanted me fired.

The customer is always right is only half the quote. The entire quote is "The customer is always right, in matters of taste." So I don't know how that quote relates to this situation. This is an great example of "taken out of context. "

Perhaps the sign should say 'no hotel parking'.
