Story two: the original poster never said that the food that his friend was cooking wasn't good enough for his kid. All he did was ask his kid if he was unhappy with the meal that he had been given and the kid confirmed. No I do agree that the original poster could have handled things just a little bit differently. But AITJ was putting words in the original posters mouth. And as for the last story on the one hand two wrongs doesn't make a right. But on the other hand if you cannot handle being ripped on yourself and you shouldn't be ripping on others. If you're going to insult someone you're opening yourself up to being insulted yourself so if you cannot handle being insulted maybe you should keep your mouth shut. That guy was clearly insecure about his own body image so he's putting down his partner so that he can feel better about himself and he's also just upset that he got called out on his behavior.

Agreed, the OP was not a jerk, he was just trying to prevent a dinnertime meltdown, which would have led to the child being completely unreasonable due to being hungry, if he doesn't like the damn food, respect the child's fucking boundaries holy shit, just don't let it get to a level where the child becomes a picky eater, which it is obvious that these parents have not allowed to happen. So from what I can see, OP was being a good father and providing for his kid in a mild crisis, even better than the mother. OP should consider breaking up with his wife at this point because it is obvious he cares very much about his kid when his wife lacks the foresight to see a problem coming down the road from a mile away, which could lead, mind you, to a RUINED FRIENDSHIP which could LEAD TO LEGAL PROBLEMS.

For No. 2, OP was NOT a jerk. AITJ misread the post. He said OP's son WAS a picky eater, but it clearly says OP's son WASN'T a picky eater, so him not liking the meal he was given would've been a HUGE surprise. Furthermore, only OP's wife seemed mad about it. There were no remarks of her friends having any problems with him going to McDonald's. I would get if this was a repeated occurrence, in which case the wife WOULD have been in the right, but it just seems like OP just got incredibly unlucky, and now he knows to pack a lunch for his son for next time. I definitely understand OP's mindset. He assumed his son, who liked trying new stuff, would like the meal, he didn't, so he tried salvaging the situation as best he could. So, no. OP wasn't the jerk, as long as he takes this as a learning experience, which he likely will.

I agree with this. Also, it was O.P.'s wife's friend. In his rant, the narrator stated it was a jerk move to leave his wife alone with his friend. I don't think the wife cared about that. The only thing that might make O.P. the jerk is that maybe he should have actually discussed it with his wife and the friend. It sounds like the O.P. just up and left. But I also don't feel that O.P. was the jerk for making sure his son got something to eat. I can tell when someone isn't a parent and doesn't understand the responsibility that comes with being a parent. The narrator has no clue.

I absolutely agree here and honestly I'm starting to believe the narrator is too naive about the world . They literally yell at the WRONG people sometimes making them sound like some of the assholes they read about. I'm sorry but let's really think about that meal and the fact the FATHER in this story understood that HIS child did try SALMON and depending on his age most children will not take kindly to salmon and I'm sorry quinoa is hard sometimes even for me to palette and I'm a grown ass woman. How dare the narrator yell at this Father for feeding HIS child and making sure that his child was not hungry and possibly make a worse scene making the wife's friend comment on how if their son was more like his daughter they wouldn't have such an unruly child? Just Narrator if you see this maybe actually pay attention to your stories because as a mother I would NEVER yell at my husband for taking care of our child and if my "Friend" had something to say negatively they would no longer be my friend.

2nd story: i'm actually failing to see the narrator's point of view. op said the kid wasnt a picky eater, saw the kid was unhappy with the meal given to him, asked if there was anything else they could feed the kid with and, when told no, he went out and got food to keep his child fed (and even brought food for the friend's kid as well) and happy so he could play with his friend for the night. the friend seemed just a bit bothered, but nothing much, but i bet if the roles were reverse he would want to get his kid food as well. so no, i don''t think op was the jerk and i think i was a bit too much to rip into the op like that.

I COMPLETELY DISAGREE in story #2...he said his son was NOT a picky eater so he wouldn't have known to get something. I also disagree that you should have just left him with no food until you leave. If you invite people over to eat I think it's common sense and curtesy to provide food that they can or will eat. Had the friend been a meat eater and OP been vegan, you would have called the friend a jerk for not providing vegan options. Who invites a specific person to eat and then doesn't offer things that will be eaten. I always ask ahead of time for diet preferences or allergies so I don't waste anyones time. OP wife is a butthole. He's a kid, not many kids would eat that. She wouldn't have had a good time if their son was crying the entire time. He solved the problem.

Yeah, I work at retail store and whenever customers come knocking on the door 10 minutes before we open trying to get me to open the doors for them I always lie to them and say oh, I'm sorry the door takes a key and only the managers have the key on them so I can't open this for you right now. And they're not here to open it. However it's totally a lie because the managers use their key to unlock the door like 45 minutes before we open that way when it's actually opening time any employee can slide them open if necessary.

Story 2, i wouldn't say op is a jerk. A better solution would probably of been leaving early to get his kid something to eat or even feed him before going over since they knew the friend kept to a strict diet they didnt follow, and as such there was a chance there was something their kid never had being served, which they may not of liked... but really dont see anything wrong with it eitherway. Kids typically dont eat everything, and being around more than a few kids that arent even necessarily picky there are just somethings they wont eat. It says nothing about the food being good or bad, just means they don't like it. When i have friends with kids over i usually operate on the assumption that their kids wont eat the food if its fish or something if that nature since it is the most common thing i see kids dislike (unless fried). If the op wasnt friends for a long time with the person they went over to then id say he was a jerk for leaving, but from all the info the op and company knew the friend for a long time so i really can't find a reason to call the op a jerk here.

3rd I hate how seeking mental health help is treated in society today. Not because it's treated badly. But because the two extremes of how it's treated seem to have the most influence today. It's either treated horribly to the point where those seeking help can be criminalized when they shouldn't be. Or those who are getting help are just not allowed to face the negative consequences of their actions.

They were gone for HALF of an hour but when they got back they stayed for THREE HOURS. Even if they left early that would’ve sucked for the kid to go so long without food when everyone else had already eaten. Also- the other child is not allowed to have French fries? They’re a child and they mostly eat whatever other foods their parents make them so letting them enjoy other fatty foods every once and awhile shouldn’t be a big deal. Story #2 I think that you need to actually LISTEN to what is happening in this story. You are tearing this man apart with statements that are not based on what is said in the story. If you can't react to what is said in the story, then you either need to do a little more digging to find out if the man was lying or keep your mouth shut. The man said that his child WAS NOT a picky eater, and would be a monster (as most young kids would be if they were hungry; most adults I know would be the same but better able to deal with the situation than a 7 year old). Granted, 30 minutes is a long time to be gone for a Happy Meal, and I personally wouldn't expect the host parents to be able to accommodate the child's tastes, especially if they don't do it for their own child. The only other solution I can see that would be safest is for them to leave shortly after dinner so the child can get something to eat and next time just bring something for the child (although, knowing the culinary issues beforehand, they should've planned for that).

Narrator, did you even read story number 2? He said the kid isn't picky, even tried the food, and just wasn't into it. The other guy didn't have "kid food" around, aka something his son would eat. Was he supposed to let his son go hungry? Which would have insited temper tantrums based on hunger like a normal child. No, he left to get food for his kid so he wouldn't have a hangry tantrum later while playing. He would have been the jerk if he took the kid, and they both left and came back later to get the mom. But he didn't. He provided food for his kid and is no way the jerk. I can't count how many times i had to suck it up and go hungry for a meal just to get food later while being miserable during the event because i just didn't like the food. The mom could suck it up and talk with her friend while dad was picking up a happy meal for 30 minutes. I would rather have a fed kid than a tantrum. Plus, I have had so many family functions where family brought their own food, even though we slaved hours over food for them. Including the stuff for their kids who were "so picky" (the kids weren't but the mom was). Just inquire and say "hey whats the meal, and if you wouldn't mind, is it okay to bring a backup just in case?" But the other guy dismissing him about we dont have kid food? That guy is a jerk. Could have communication helped everyone have a good time, sure. Was a conflict solved? Yes. Was there a child melt down? No. No problems, then. Just have open conversations about food for next time.

I think the narrator was a bit hard on OP from story 2 but I do think he was in the wrong. In situations where kids don't want to eat something, the parents shouldn't force them to eat everything but eat at least enough of it to not go completely hungry. Offering an alternative every time the kid is picky will end up with them becoming very spoiled. Also, this was especially rude considering OP did this while having dinner at someone else's house. Overall, not a good move.

Agree, children will have to endure a bit of unpleasantness or discomfort sometimes, and it doesn't take a lot of calories to tide a 5 yo over until they get home. A couple bites from that plate, followed by desert, would've been fine. I'm questioning wether OP's kid is as 'mild' or un-picky as he describes, given he structured his evening around avoiding a food-related meltdown.

Bro ripped into that dad for no reason. As a father to a 4yr old daughter who mainly eats veggies (her choice she tears up veggies and rarely meat) id totally do the same maybe just uber eats something. And plus why the wife defending bro so hard? Thats questionable

Story 2: Wrong NTJ he said the son wasn't a picky eater but didn't like the meal it is bad parenting to just let him be hungry or force him to eat it why don't people understand yes he could've acted differently but the wife's friend didn't say anything only the wife did.

All the people saying OP in story #2 isn't the jerk are the reason kids grow up to be entitled adults. The kid doesn't like the food? Well, too bad. Let him either eat or go hungry. It's not like the food will hurt him if he eats it, he just doesn't like it. You're not starving the kid if there's perfectly edible food available. We can't always have food that we like but sometimes we just need to suck it up and eat it. We all hated vegetables as kids but our parents would still make us eat it, with time a lot of us get used to it and even learn to like vegetables. Everyone should learn to eat foods we don't like. What if you try to make your kid eat a balanced diet but he doesn't like the food? Are you not going to make him eat it and get him McDonald's every time he refuses to eat something? What if the kid doesn't want to eat anything but McDonald's because he doesn't like anything else? That's how kids become spoiled and that could also lead to children obesity. Plus, to get McDonald's during a dinner party where you're the guest is incredibly rude. People failing to see how rude OP was being and see it as OP just solving a problem have a serious lack of manners.

I came into the comments thinking it was going to be an unpopular opinion that you were a bit harsh in the second story, but it seems I'm not the only one to think so. Salmon is an aquired taste. I dont like it but i love just about every other fish, except tuna. I wouldn't push it on my daughter for that reason. if she wants to try, I'll let her but I'm not going to just randomly make it her entire meal for the night. There are foods that anyone would eat and only a picky eater wouldn't eat, like veggies, meat, some pastas and side dishes, but there are foods that are only meant for the foodie types, and this is that situation. So no, op is not the jerk.

I'm starting to not want to watch these when its with this narrator, at this point, i'ts obvious he's biased. for story #2 AT WORST the dude was being unpolite (dunno if thats a word). The whole point was him trying to look out for HIS kid, and he also clearly stated the kid is not picky, he went into another persons house with peculiar eating habits, the kid DID NOT LIKE IT so he decided the kid HAS to eat. Whats the problem?! he wasn't polite in leaving, I can kinda agree there but nothing else. just takes the fun out of watching this when you're so quick to judge men like that dude

Narrator has an awful take in the second story and doesn’t understand your kids ALWAYS come first, if my kid doesn’t like what was cooked and there’s no other food, then yes I’m going to go get some and not let them go hungry. It also sounds like the friend isn’t accommodating and strict with food as they don’t allow their own child to eat french fries.

Story 1 you should never hit anyone but especially a woman in the stomach, can you imagine if she had been pregnant, it is horrible to think about and hopefully the police sorted her out and made her stay in the puke covered clothes the whole time she was there, she is the reason people who work in retail hate work, I would never cut it in retail because I would give Karen's a piece of my mind, I do feel for retail workers and am always polite to them, they have a bad job for bad wage

2nd Story NO- The kid's needs come FIRST, you're a parent, YOU should know better!! OP JUST said his kid isn't a picky eater. Did you not read the story, or is it your bias to favor the Wife over the Husband? The Mother is IN THE WRONG, SHE should've known better than to make her kid eat something he did not like, and could've made him sick if he forced himself to eat. Only thing that kid could've done was starve if he couldn't eat. L Mother for saying her kid was fine when he clearly WASN'T. L You for thinking that was okay 'n literally ignoring WHAT THE DAD SAID ABT THE SON. W Dad for taking care of his Son's needs. I honestly hope you don't force your kids to eat something they don't like. Your Kids needs come FIRST before a fking dinner at someone else's house. There's no such thing as an "eat or starve" for a CHILD.

Story 2: I will take this as AITJ misreading the story because if not, then wow, this is the biggest show of their female bias I have ever seen. As for the situation. OP is not the Jerk. A parent's responsibility is to ensure the child's needs are met. OP tried to see if the friend had anything different and he did not. So OP did his job, not the wife. As for the wife's friend, it is his job to accommodate his guests as a host. If this cannot be done then do not be a host. It is that simple. The host could of either said he will make something or ordered food for the child...he did neither and failed as a host. So honestly OP's wife and friend are jerks.

the friend was nice enough to invite the OP over and cook for them. If someone comes over to your house. will you buy several different meals for a bunch of different kids. the host should accommodate guests but to a certain degree. its common curtesy
@DanielGonzalez-qk6sd
@DanielGonzalez-qk6sd Год назад
@@Knoxium94 yes, yes I would. Why? Because that is my job as the host. If I did not want to deal with that then I should not have been the host. The guy had no accommodations set, at all. The only choice was leave early but let the kid be hungry or do as OP did. So yeah, this one is on the host.

Story 2: I very much do not agree with the narrator on this one. who serves a child salmon? and also, what father doesn't have kids food at home?? even if he has a strict diet, that doesn't mean you HAVE TO subject your kids to it. the OP did say their child was NOT a picky eater so who would have guessed they wouldn't like what they were serving? Bringing in chicken nuggets from the get go is WAY more rude than going right after their kid said he didn't like the food. OP could have handled it differently but they were only thinking about their kid, the wife was being pretty selfish and not thinking about her child only her own feelings. was she just going to let him go without dinner until they left?

You're completely in the wrong avout the kid not wanting to eat salmon. Most kids don't fuxking eat that and the mom was in the wrong for saying her son could just be hungry u til he was upset enough they had to leave sometimes you have to compromise. If you don't have kids don't make comments about what you think should've happened the dad did a great job.

Lately I'm noticing some bad takes like the second Story today. Idk why but its usually in discussion between a male and a female part. A lot of comments are talking about this aswell. I think both readers should rethink such situations with both genders swapped to get a better picture since I'm noticing some biases.

I don't understand why you keep calling some people the jerk when they aren't. In the second story the op wasn't the jerk he was just being a good parent. Also why are you so harsh to those who obviously aren't the jerk? You were unreasonably cruel to the op with what you said.
