@@joemana2271 What are you talking about? I saw Malone score like 10 times and make 3-4 assists and that's with him being double- or triple-teamed every time he got the ball at the low post
He first was a huge part of Detroit's run in the late 80's/early 90's, which included victories over Jordan's Bulls. So Chicago knew exactly what they were getting with Rodman.
I, along with thousands of Jazz fans and others, to this day still point out the fact that Jordan pushed off on Brian Russel to make his last shot! It should have been: shot no good, Brian Russel at the free throw line, makes both and... THE UTAH JAZZ WIN THE NBA CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
@@davidmcphail5653 except they wouldn’t have won the championship, but game 6. But if I were the referee I may have granted a foul just because of what’s on the line. Still gives a chance for game 7.
If such a slight touch from Jordan somehow kept the defender from guarding Jordan then Utah deserved to lose. The reality is that Jordan’s quick change of direction got him open not any “push”.
and yet they called fouls on malone and rodman... your theory seems to have a huge hole in it. fouls are called less these days... but yeah, it's always better back in your day ain't it?
@@tomitstube You completely missed my point. The physical way that Rodman and Malone played during their day would get them ejected in today's PG NBA. Heck, you can get called for a technical just for looking at a ref wrong. I don't understand your reasoning since I didn't say anything about fouls. If you get as physical as these guys did in the NBA today, you would get tossed from the game.
@@tke567 again your beliefs are simply based on nostalgic opinion, not facts, rodman got called for a technical just pointing at a ref when going at it with frank brickowski. it happened all the time with players who had reputations, same thing today. but refs don't call fouls like they used to, guys push off and do all sorts of stuff these days, the idea that players are softer today is pure myth.
@@tomitstube so what's your point? yes it's my opinion, because I watched games back then and it was a more physical game than what i watch today. so just because you don't agree with me, i must wrong? your comments are your opinions too, not facts. geez, you can't just make a simple comment about something without someone trying to criticize you about it.
@@well.thy.one. Well you're closer than everyone else. We're living in the Era of the reelection industrial complex, and no fuckin way are you getting reelected if you're seen making deals with Commies. I had hopes for Trump, but predictably he told Kim Jong Un "we'll negotiate with you as long as you do everything we tell you to do". Lol..
@@markfrost2707 the numbers don’t count some of the shit he actually does. Like force open areas for MJ and Scottie, or zone/foul a player out of the game. He was a bruiser, and he did the work that the team couldn’t afford having Scottie or Mike do. Argue what you will, but Scottie, MJ, and Phil Jackson kept him on the team through 3 championships for a reason. Edit: Mark Frost is making up arguments to argue against. LOL nobody is saying Charles Barkley sucks or that Rodman made MJ. The argument is that he brought defensive and offensive options through his sheer presence on the court, not that he single-handedly made his teams. Besides, Rodman led the league on rebounds through various years on different teams. Bringing up that you watched all of the NBA games is embarrassing though, especially if you can’t understand such a simple argument. Just another old head hating for no reason.
@@eFrog27 I'm sorry?? Where you watching the NBA then?? Seem a little young? I watched ALL of it--ALL of it and Rodman is widely regarded as someone who did not belong. the hall is NOT for "role players" PERIOD. He got in because he was part of the CULTURE og the 90s NBA. Not a great player but ALWAYS getting attention with his antics, tattoos, hair colors, wearing dresses or anything else he could do for ATTENTION, instead of letting his NOT hall of fame numbers to speak for themself. Rodman was able to defend and get rebounds BECAUSE JORDAN WAS DOUBLE TEAMED. You know nothing about basketball. It wasn't Rodman who helped Jordan into the Hall--it was the other way around...and the simple fact is his numbers are a joke. When you look at his rebound numbers? factor in he was nogt ask to SCORE!!! Look at 6'4" Charles barkley's rebound numbers as he put up 50s! Do you think those two are similar? Again--the hall is not for ROLE PLAYERS. How much defense or how many rebounds do you think Jordan would have got if told 'dont worry about scoring"?? THINK .......sorry
righttttttt ANY starting NBA player could DOUBLE his efforts (he has THE WORST numbers of ANY player in the hall) when told not to try to score BECAUSE HE COULDNT HIT THE SIDE OF A BARN. Barkley has better rebound numbers and he's 4 inches shorter and scored in the 50s sometimes. he sigle-handily took the Suns to the Finals in his first year. yet he has better rebound numbers. Know why?? HE'S A HALL OF FAME PLAYER. Google it--most pro writers agree--the hall is NOT for role players. he was a BUM. I guess Joe Klien was the greatest center in history, right?? Look at his rings...and Barkley sucked because he has no rings...right? Rodman does NOT belong in the Hall--period
@@markfrost2707 this is the same Dennis Rodman who kept MJ down during the 80s right? The same one that MJ couldn't beat right? Gotcha. You absolute cockroach.
Denis Rodman was a genius, he knew exactly how to hit so that the refs cant see it. And then when you hit him back he would exaggerate it in such a way that the refs can see it and give them a foul :D
Rodman would feel players up, which really agitated them, lol. Today's players would #MeToo him and get him kicked out of the league for that. They even snitch out trash talk these days. Smh.
Any NBA Player blatantly fouling DENNIS RODMAN would be the equivalent of making the mistake of picking a fight in a parking garage with IRON MIKE TYSON...Love&Peace luv ya byo eJ ❤
F. Lashby Malace in the Palace was a big reason for the league cracking down, allowing refs to more easily fix games under the guise of "keeping order."
It's crazy how much more physical the game was back then but how the fouls were actually on the ball instead of someone just shoving or pushing the other guy.
Frequent body contacts fighting for positions and spacing, this is true basketball. That's the reason players of USA got difficulty to score in Olympics this year under the FIBA rules. Malone was fantastic during this playoff series considering he's frequently doubled and bumped.
No matter what anyone says, THE UTAH JAZZ held their own in the 90's. Such a great team. I still cannot believe we never had a title. This is when basketball was real. Way more contact.
From the windy city here, I remember this final game. That miracle Jordan final winning shot was amazing. Everyone at the party were jumping for joy with that nerve wrecking ending! Those were the days of Jordan!
Well that's all you can see because he has a basketball uniform on. That's why he did the pro wrestling thing, so he could show off the rest of his physique.
@@stephaniemalley5694 can anybody tell what his place in scoring in NBA history. Maybe Stephany doesn't know. Besides Championships are teams accomplishments not individuals.
This 13 minute NBA vid from the 90s is far more interesting than anything I've watched from the NBA in the last 13 years (and that's not an understatement). Miss those days...
This series and game was epic. I'll always say this title of the bulls was thanks to Rodman. And the Jazz was the only team could face the historical Bulls of the nineties, the jazz deserved one ring, and unfortunately Malone never had one.
Cygnus Prime I remember this like it was yesterday. He was tripping Malone and getting tangled up on purpose lmao. I remember laughing then and I'm laughing now lol.
I sat glued to any NBA gane back in thr 90s and early 00s. It was a fantastic time for not only basketball but also the characters on every team. Just look at the fun and competition between Mailman and Worm. Yeah, they pushed it, got overheared, but also had tons of fun being the characters they were. I miss the Jazz from back then, but also the Bulls, Spurs and Knicks. What a decade, what a ride!
Underrated? Maybe but in the biggest moments he didn't deliver. Its a team sport but in a few final instances when the game was on the line he had some memorable fails. Theres a difference between great and greatness.
You motherfuckers didn't even watch it at this time You were either in diapers or not even born Same shit was said the other day, Unitas was the best footplayer. Okay. Did you even watch him play? No. But i know he was !
They speed up tempo now because grown man ball would bully these lanky shooters. And grown man strength don't thrive in up tempo track meets... Hence LeBron's grown man game struggling versus these fast break 3 point marksman
Joe16 Jordan I know right...these guys today can only shoot, pass, finish at positions 1-5. I miss the old days where 2 players on the team got the ball and everyone else stood around and watched
Ulysses432 who's mugging...only those unathletic 90s players that couldn't play the ball/defense so they fouled...please. if those guys back then could shoot they would lol take that L
Ulysses432 are you honestly saying that when a player shoots 40 percent or higher from 3 he should be going to the paint smh math class beckons, 3 is greater than 2
@MegaClintbeastwood Because there were superstar big men back in the day so they always feed them in the post just like Malone or a simple pick and pop or pick and roll, if the opposing team double team him he kicks out to the shooter simple as that. That's why Malone and Stockton were so effective. The gameplay right now is ridiculous and foolish at times as it focuses on the 3 point shot which is the least efficient shot. I'll give you an example which happens a lot in today's NBA. In an offensive play during a switch where the offensive big man is being guarded by a small guy, instead of giving the ball to the big man in the post, the offense let the offensive guard who's being guarded by a big man isolate on the top (3 point area) hoping to create distance for a three point attempt. No matter how effective you are as a shooter the 3 point shot is less efficient because it is farther from the basket as oppose to giving it to the big guy who can easily get past his smaller defender on the post. This is why the Spurs has been present in the playoffs since 1995 from David Robinson to TIm Duncan and now Lamarcus Aldridge. They always have an anchor in the post and play inside-out instead of throwing hail mary's every offensive play. Simple efficient offense plus great defense, that's the winning formula. It's sad that everybody wants to copy the Warrior's formula when they got lucky by drafting two great shooters plus an anchor in defense in Green and now Durant which I really don't like because he took the easy way out but that's another topic, to me they are an exception. If I pick the Jordan Bulls and current Warriors. I would definitely pick the Jordan Bulls because that team played simple basketball using MJ as the anchor in the post and is surrounded by effective role players and another star in Pippen. Just like the old NBA they play inside-out which is far efficient than attempting threes everytime. If that three gets defended properly it's easy to lose confidence and eventually lose your rhythm and before you know it your team is getting clobbered. Besides the zone defense in the NBA is a joke, how can you call it zone defense when you can't stay in the shaded area without guarding anyone or else you'll get a 3 second defensive violation. There's a gaping hole in the middle when team employs zone and the quick athletic guards are capitalizing on that stupid rule.
Ulysses432 here ill break it down simpler for you. Lmao you're gunna love this, because your hilarious comment holds no water, and now I'm going to make it so that people reading this realize, who in fact needs to go back to school. 40 percent of 50 is 20, 55 percent of 50 is 27.5.......now if you take both of those values, and multiplied it accordingly, if I made 20 three pointers out of 50 shots which is 40 percent made of total shots, I would get a value of 60. If I made 27.5 shots out of 50 which is 55 percent, it would give me a value of 55. Now, last time I checked 60>55. Correct me if I'm wrong. Geez I'm sorry to do that to you, I really am, but you forced my hand.
In Iran our off day is not sunday, its friday, we didnt get these games live but there was a program which started at 6 am on fidays, you can imagine being in high school and waking up at 6 am on your only off day from school to watch this game, I was so pumped after watching this that I couldn't contain myself for the rest of the week. This sort of game is why I fell in love with basketball as a kid, and now, I'm 35, but still watching the highlights pumps me up, thank you all the great players for all the good memories
Ulysses432 im not caliming that iran is like other western countries but you should see it for yourself to believe it, the state and the people are completely opposite, our international image is way off, my cousins husband is German, he visited us two month ago and he was blown away.
Ulysses432 tnx for all your kind words, I studied english literature in college, and about the basketball, It was broadcasted from national tv, no satellite back then, before the so called revolution in 1978 iran was a major partner of usa and I believe we used to have basketball in our colleges and private clubs for many many years
Ulysses432 I was surprised too cause I thought middle east was all football, I was born there but lived in southeast asia. But I was mostly surprised when you thought basketball wasn’t celebrated around the world at that time. Man they love basketball here in asia. My pops watched bird’s era, I was 6 when I watched this one.
Rouzbeh Shahamat Naderi I say this all the time. I actually had this discussion yesterday. I lived in the Middle East (Oman) and Iran is an amazing country respected by all apart from Saudi Arabia.
I was in Utah for this. My grandpa was in the hospital and I was young I think 8 and everybody in the waiting/common area was rooting for Utah but I was a MJ fan, and when MJ hit that dagger, I never felt more hate in a room, it was so intense but I was a happy little guy to see this live on a tv
This was one of the best games I ever watched. The series was evenly matched and Rodman was a huge factor in the series. His energy was off the charts> I watched Rodman guard everyone from Malone to Shaq and he played them all hard and tough while being quite smaller than most he was tasked with. Didnt always agree with his antics, but Rodman was a defensive force and a rebounding machine. Couldnt shoot a lick but impacted the game through sheer energy and will.
Spritual Amir He will always be an nba legend because of what he did on the court. I had no idea he raped a 13 year old girl. That’s absolutely disturbing. Why is he not in prison? Was that actually proven or was that just a rumor?
Epic game. The build up, a rematch of the 1997 Finals, Jordan's last season, "the last dance", 4 members of the Dream Team, Hall of Fame players and coaches...simply an amazing era, great teams and definitely a different style of ball than today's.
Its koz you know damm well about quality ass basketball unlike todays kids in the nba; heck i was thinking of ice cream in the finals and didnt care for the game recently
There's so many smart players on both teams. In that last play, Stockton (NBA all time assist leader) had a wide open teammate in the paint but he knew Pippen was so fast that he couldn't pass it to him fast enough.
Man! Can you imagine Draymond against Rodman... There is no way he keeps his cool as the Mailman did... To be able to get 30 pts against this kind of defense takes real basketball smarts. You had to figure out a way to score. Today the defender just simply guide you to the basket...
junior2404 lol Draymond. he'd be just another guy in the 90s NBA. everyone acts like he's so tough. the league is trash and full of weak players who have to go and hide on their rivals roster to win.
junior2404 - this right here. When you can play defense like back then, you can't just play like teams today do shooting indiscriminately. Nonstop passing like today's teams couldn't be done with the defensive physicality - there would be too many turnovers and interceptions. This also gave shooters less time and space to shoot which affected shooting percentages. Like you said, teams needed to find ways to score - that was what the game was about.
I remember watching this series when it first happened, the wrestling between Rodman and Malone, the back and forth leads, it was all epic! And the look on Malones face at the end was priceless, go home mailman!!!
That was the golden age of basketball. You had incredible athletes playing fundamental basketball. The flashy guys these days would not be able to hang.
Why, because centers shoot 3's now. Well they are neglecting the inside sometimes. Current players are more athletic but stay up in the air longer and is easier to fake out. Doing a Eurostep around somebody very slowly is a travel for sure. Iverson started the whole carry the ball thing.
@@JayZoop neglecting the inside? That crap slows down the game. I never understood how you could be considered a pro basketball player and not be able to shoot the ball, run thr floor, handle the basketball, lead the break, etc just because you were 7ft. Now they can do all of this an more.
I haven't watched basketball sense the end of the Jordan era, it was such a fun time to watch the Bull's, listening to the music and announce each player was just so cool at the start of the game
You got that right Rigo! You breathe too closely it's a stupid foul. It's all about controlling who goes to the championship and who doesn't go ! That's why they changed all the rules, like no hand checking anymore, no tough defense anymore, it's all about Ratings, and putting money back into the pockets of the owners and everyone getting their cut off the monies.
No way you will see that kind of physicality in today's NBA!!! Today's refs will send you to jail for half of that! 90's NBA if for sure the best NBA we have ever seen!!
80's and 90's...those were 20 years of awesome physical basketball! None of this dancing around and launching 3's from everywhere on the court. Today's version of the NBA is shit and for pansies.
Rodman & Malone looked like they were playing that potato sack game where you gotta see who crosses the finish line first while everybody gets bundled as they hop forward😂😂😂 I remember this game like it was yesterday. Was 14 years then & 34 now.
