When I first purchased this album, I was disappointed; it just seemed like it was missing so much that Sound Awake had. But it didn't take long for it to hit me how amazing the album is. A band being capable of changing their sound so dramatically one album after the other, while still retaining the aspects that make them incredible, is an amazing feat.
This! I heard Themata and was hooked. When i heard Sound Awake I didn't think of it much until it grew on me and WOW everything stuck, you see how they moved a bit towards a different sound but keep the intensity. You see them grow each album.
There are a lot of bands that label themselves progressive, and while they might be in some aspects, they don't have that ability to become an almost entirely different band with each album (and, of course, still make solid music), something that Karnivool have no trouble with.
Holy shit. Karnivool is truly one of the most mature bands I've seen when it comes to their approach towards their music. They put so much into one album, which is a rarity today, where artists release albums every fucking year. A real lesson to the mainstream music industry today.
Goddamn. Some friends told me to listen to these guys, but I kept putting it off. Not what I expected! Judging from their name, I was thinking they'd be some kinda Louisiana swamp metal band or something, but...man. Shits genius!
That outro has to be one of the most epic and beautiful mantras ever sang. It's incredibly rare to find something that well written, produced and executed in music. I like to believe I keep an open mind listening to every style of music and therefore a vast catalogue of music, however Karnivool pulled off something absolutely magical here with the entire song and particularly the outro - It's incredibly emotional in a way that can not be replicated - Wonderful song and amazing band.
The mantra repeated over the clobbering of the cymbals hits so intensely hard when the song has already taken you that far, I'm just lost for words about this song, to me it's the masterpiece of the album and it has popped in my mind regularly for years now - with great pleasure, even if it felt close to an obsession at some point!
...everytime I see this Vid in it´s entirety, I begin to cry like a baby!!!...seriously, I´m a father of two 9 year old siblings...strong stuff here, folks!!!...and great song btw.
Actually there is another somewhat known band that composes music quite similarly, or Karnivool is similar to them. Either way Karnivool have been able to filled a space that I never thought could actually be filled by anybody else while where waiting for the next, most likley last album.. It is such a shame their genre is not very popular here in Aus and the guys from perth have found more fame and fans abroad, particularly the US... where that other band is from..
It sounds alot like TooL & A Perfect Circle, but, those 2 great bands are not so active for some years now, this is a pleasant surprise to my ears. Karnivool is great band, seriously!!
Some other aussie music to check out if you like prog/post rock: We Lost the Sea, Tangled Thoughts of Leaving, Caligula's Horse, sleepmakeswaves, Solkyri, Meniscus
I know there's something wrong stop making it up We're too proud to see we've lost more than our trust And now there's nothing left, well's dead and dried up Its disease has left a foul taste in our cup It just keeps on flowing And we drift on knowing It just keeps on flowing This babble from our mouth Who we are I fear most of the time Carry on shuffling in order and in line Who we are I fear most of the time Carry on whipping boy, stare into the light Stare into the light And it feels familiar for good reason I want us to break the case we're in With one of the tools of this catatonic skin Remove all the parts I want us to face the shape we're in A world of confusion awaits our sons and kin Lets reset it all Lets reset it all Well it stings and it hurts, is this how it's meant to be Well it stings and it hurts, is this how it's meant to be Well it stings and it hurts, a small price to pay to be In control and rebirth what our future's meant to be Who we are I fear most of the time So carry on whipping boy, stare into the light I want us to face the shape we're in A world of confusion awaits our sons and kin Let's reset it all (we are, we are, we are) Let's reset it all (we are, we are, we are) These words of wisdom come with lack of vision This is the first day I've ever had to stand and witness These words of wisdom come with lack of vision This is the first day I've ever had to stand and witness These words of wisdom come with lack of vision This is the first day I've ever had to stand and witness These words of wisdom come with lack of vision This is the first day I've ever had to stand and witness These words of wisdom come with lack of vision This is the first day I've ever had to stand and witness
well looking back at this so glad i found this 9 years ago and i wonder if i will still be able to look back to this video how many more years from now !😆
Man, it's taken me 4 years to like this. That's the case with Karnivool though, it just takes me half a decade to get on their level. They're just too fucken good for my brain to process.
This song (probably the album too) is more than fleeting catchy choruses and sweeping solos... it's a message, an idea, a concept, a thought process above that of these petty small minds that have to compare them to what's familiar and attempt to quantify what is outside of their intellect. If you don't like this then go read a book and/or explore spirituality until you do understand! Then you will see why your 'words of wisdom' come with lack of vision...
i have listened to this song a million times and only now have just heard how many layers of voice and instruments are going on in the background, the suttle whispers are haunting.
Draws you in in it's complex structure, lots of subtle tones and effects, and lyrically carries alot of relevant meaning. Took me a few listens, but I think it might be their best track yet, I love it.
And it still astonishes me that every time I listen to this I'm shocked at how good it is. It's years old, now. What is it? What are the feelings it elicits? How does it do that? What is that magic recipe? Is it something that will never be understood? Probably. My fave band is Tool, but this is every bit as good. Every bit.
Yep. Also: In 2019, Tool released an album with themes about vaccination, breathing in/out contagions, and conquering fear. We Lost the Sea released an album about a mother and child navigating a post-apocalyptic world. In 2020, Haken released the album "Virus". Are prog bands trying to tell us something?
@@HeyZeus096 8 billion humans. When you look retrospectively on things with a special focus in mind, it's extremely easy to develop biases of confirmation. Of course, in the production of 8 billion humans, you will always find things somehow "relatable" to posterior events.
bulldoglemsford, It is both. Starting with the "worst day" when the music is all chaotic and the two parts are overlapping each other and then as the music becomes softer the lyric changes to the "first day". Simply brilliant... :)
Man these guys are killing!!! Along with Between the Buried and Me, Animals as leaders, meshuggah, .. these bands are really changing everything. . In a good way of course.
Periphery, BTBAM, AAL, Scale The Summit, Meshuggah, Karnivool, Scar Symmetry, Bad Salad, Caligula's Horse, Circadian Pulse, Pain Of Salvation. The list goes on...
Damnit those bands are killing it. Going to listen to Circadian Pulse cause i've never listen to them. Also check out Even Marea and KADINJA. The last one have a really awesome anaconda cover LOL.
It is. I was kind of like 'this is it?' at first.. but I kept listening. I applaud them for taking risks and not just copying and pasting from their previous successes.
Thank you for your reply. I had to google Floor Jansen (:-) I see she’s the Nightwish vocalist. I’ve heard of the band but not their music… I meet their manager who was an Australian and was running a vegan cafe/restaurant in Melbourne Australia. He ceased to manger them when I meet him. Sadly they didn’t survive Covid-19 unless they have moved. I really like this song ‘We Are” but not sure about the album as a whole, this song is just fantastic. Have you heard Dead Letter Circus again an Australian band from QLD give them a listen I heard them the first time around the same time as Karnivool. Keep listening to music it keeps us sane.
they aren't, i'm form india. If i know it, they aren't under rated. They've been here twice in past three years playing Themata and Sound Awake and hopefully coming again this month but i won't be able to attend it unfortunately coz its not in my state. But if I figure out some of funding my trip i'm sorted. Wishing for it.
The 'hooks and melody's' in this are brilliantly subtle. It makes the difference between a song that you actually enjoy ticking over in your head rather than an annoying one.
I think this song is about our suffering eco system and our failure to see the signs and make a change, just like in the video in years to come our children will start disappearing(die out) and we will be left wondering why? The only answer is our ignorance.
With the arrival of coronavirus, this video and lyrics turn to be pretty accurate.... A world of confusion, awaits our son's and kind. -lets reset it all- .... Fuck us
This has got to be the greatest song of my generation. I will listen to this until the day I die. I've never felt this way about a song before. You guys are amazing. You should do a show in Ballarat, Victoria. I'd pay anything to hear this live. Congrats on the amazing new album!
I seen these guys live in 08/09 at the queensbridge hotel. Please come back to Melbourne! I love Birds of Tokyo and Karnivool, But Karnivool hits home more with me.
So guys they’re the best band in the whole time they’ll still be in here with us but we need to stay at home to see them again. Friends please stay at home❤️
When I watch this video it reminds me of Doctor Who. It's weird but I watch this to get that feeling throughout my body. Such a great song and video for an amazing band.
Ha they all do, and all the elites, it's set into the system as manifest, the more you say, sing, show, speak these things it's like a magic spell cast into manifestation. This is very pertinent as in athletics/sport for example, ''see it, believe it, manifest it'' and ''what one believes, one can achieve''. All set in motion
How is it that Birds of Tokyo and Karnivool have the same lead singer, but they sound so different?! And this isn't the only example. Kamelot has had the lead singers from Arch Enemy and Amaranthe, yet all of them are vastly different. It just isn't fair to my brain cells.
RipenGetlita that is true, though you would expect that the lead singer would bring at least some similarities from one band to another, whether it be their tone or style or even just range. But they often change everything completely from band to band and its quite strange and beautiful.
I only discovered this tune about a month ago. Holy Crap! KILLER Track!!! The whole album is fantastic. Took me a little while to get into it but now I can't get enough of it. New music Please!!!
Wooooah, I totally couldn't follow the beat for the first few listens, then when I did it sounded like a completely different song. Any one else get that?
More than 5 years passed and I still can’t))) I can follow when listening to the live versions, but not studio. In studio he did different accents comparing to lives and it still confuses me
I get that feeling with a lot of music I listen to... I’ll hear a song that I’ve listened to a thousand times, but for some reason hear it differently once and it’s never the same. Which is not a bad thing, gives you a whole new perspective on the song. Damn I love music.
I've waited four years for this. Listened to the entirety of Sound Awake about a thousand times over, it is the most influential album I've heard. Vool, you are fucking incredible. Long live Karnivool.
I love this song. But my first thought on the video, was that there was an impact to happen on Earth with space asteroid or some space junk, lol. The aliens, stop the impact from happening, and in return take as many humans as they please, for their reward.
