This whole album is a gem... I moved my family with my dad in 2017, and I was listening to this album a lot. He had a stroke the following year and passed away. Took me awhile to be able to come back to this, but I love it. Reminds me of a simpler time. And to think I stumbled on this band at the comedian Bill Burrs recommendation!
I have many great prog metal and other stuff as my most listened to in utube. But still I did not get this beautiful piece recommended not even once ? Wtf youtube ?!
I just saw these guys a couple weeks ago in Seattle and they sound even better live! No joke, they take all of what you see in this video (the vibe, energy, spot-on playing) and more with them to the stage. If you get the chance to check 'em out, do it!
@@greigns7781 my band is called Mr Denton On Doomsday. Here's a link to one of our songs. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1BdqgFsY5CA.html
I would have to say Karnivool is honestly one of the best/original bands of this time. And Sound Awake is so much deeper than their other albums. But I'm honestly glad that these guys haven't entered the mainstream, because an amazing band like this has wayyyy too much talent to become one of those overrated bands that people eventually get sick of. Really, I think these guys are at a pretty stable position in terms of popularity. This ladies and gentlemen is music at it's best.
I'm not implying that these guys wouldn't be capable of making good music if they were mainstream. Typically, artists that are played excessively over the radio become washed up and forgotten about (at least where I'm from). Being a musician myself, I understand the whole "appraisal" thing, but these guys are way too damn good and they definitely don't deserve to ever be forgotten. Selfish thinking or not, it's an honest opinion.
this is the first time i hear this song.. and im telling you.. im hooked.. its taken me a while to find a band that sticks in my head for a while. but i think you guys just did it for me!!!
Excellent. Just heard about them today from a friend telling me I'd like their music because I'm a big fan of Tool, and I'm not disappointed. As a bonus they expose the same bullshit being fed to us by country leaders (political, religious, corporate etc...) which is good to see. I hope people stop worshipping the music and start standing up for their rights, in the words of Bob Marley the Great haha... It's high time we stop being treated as sheep. Go Carnivool!
@froggerchanovsky well if you listen to the persona EP or thermata they were writing stuff that at least to me sounded like no other group i knew. but the moment i heard sound awake the became just another hard rock band with the exception of a song or two. i dunno just an opinion. besides that i hope they dont take to long releasing another album because i still love their music none the less
@froggerchanovsky yeah. i guess to say "letdown" is a bit to harsh. its my favourite song on the album aswell. and i just re-listened to the whole album but i still cant shake the feeling i get from songs like "cote" or "shutterspeed" and "roquefort with horn guests" slight change in style and i just love "scarabs" as well. but change part2 and goliath are the only two songs on the new album i could really attach myself to...
Why is this such bad quality? I just bought it on iTunes, and can watch it on my computer in HQ...why can't the official youtube channel for you guys get it? Or L1fel1ke (and dare I say Shutterspeed) for that matter?
@froggerchanovsky actually... now that you mention it that may have been what i didnt like. its sense of flow i mean. at the same time that theyve all got their own distinct sound i found listening to the album they all just blurred together and didnt grab your attention. where as themata had the differentiation between songs but it made each of them sound new and original really grabbing your attention. also thematas instrumental songs i quite miss and kindof felt let down by change part 2.
@31rS3RP3N7 They're too talented to be popular with anything mainstream man. It's sad but unfortunately thats how things go. The innovative bands are the ones who get shafted.
That's kind of selfish thinking. They can still be mainstream and at the same time make good music. Appraisal means a lot for an artist. Even more than making a solid living out of his work.
@31rS3RP3N7 hasnt all the best stuff been underground.. id rather leave it like that.. Look at Pink floyd.. Tool.. they were considered undergroumd.. and i reckon they fucken rock!!
dont fuckin start this shit.... its better to YOU.. there are only two types of music. good and bad.. and at that, good and bad are completely subjective and opinionated.. just because you dont like them as much as those bands you mentioned, doesnt make those bands better.. they're different.. not better or worse.. DIFFERENT!!!
@31rS3RP3N7 It's because mainstream society has shocking taste in music. I'm not saying this as a fan of this type of music (even though I AM a fan), but as a musician. Write a song with ZERO evidence of musical talent and you're bound to become a one-hit-wonder!
Well I'm happy you feel the need to share your feeble-minded opinion a year after I posted that comment, but I would never consider myself "hipster" by any means. I just much rather prefer meaningful and well thought out music over redundant bullshit that's overly appreciated for it's monotone sense of creativity. The point I'm trying to get across is that today's radio has been flooded with nonsense and Karnivool is way too damn good to be caught up in that shit. End of discussion
@@DARRENC910 just listened to scarabs, it's ok. Way too short in my opinion. I can appreciate the song and metal riffs though. Everyone has there own opinion, I have mine and you have yours. Isn't that beautiful? 🤔
