Here is a song written by Ellen Kehoʻohiwaokalani Wright Prendergast in 1893. This is a song written in anger against the United States of America. I love this song, and all of you Hawaiians will too (if you don't already). Enjoy!

Mahalo @jzathey. This song reminds us that our grandparents and great-grandparents of the past never wanted to be annexed, and if we look at the facts we see that we weren't even annexed. We are still a sovereign nation, but under illegal occupation. And in the Hawaiian Kingdom, everybody was welcome!

Mahalo nui loa e me ke aloha pumehana to all the islanders. Though I am haole I do not identify as such, instead I sympathize with the maoli kanakas in so many ways. I must have had at least one lifetime in the Islands. When our family moved there in 1954 at the age of 11 I felt as if I were coming home. Such is the great power of the Aloha spirit. that it would bring me back to mt former home......Ku'u home o Hawai'i nei .......

What's not to love? It makes this haoli mad as hell that this was done, first to the American Indians and then to the Mexicans and Hawaiians came next. Then the Philippines, Cuba, PuertoRico. Hawaii is Sovereign and always will be. A sweet melody with lyrics that can melt the skin off an enemy. Hawaii is an occupied nation and Red Hill should point that out pretty clearly. Look who is living in tents at the beaches. GRRR.

I have no indigenous blood (I am Chinese/Japanese), but I (and all other residents of Hawaiʻi) feel the same crushing weight of US occupation in my daily life. I cannot stand idly by while my home is bleeding.

If that's the case, please remove that symbol of global terror from your picture. Also, please don't despair, we Macedonians, who are also occupied by the US Empire, are with you as are other peoples throughout the world. God bless. #NeverNorthOnlyMacedonia

This song must be made compulsory and sung at every school assembly to remind the young people and future generation of the injustice on the Hawaiian people by the USA government. A protest song forever

the kanaka maoli movement should join AIM, they both fight for the native rights, but Kanaka maoli goes farther than AIM, but I pledge my alliegence to the Kingdom of Hawaii until I die, and an enemy of Hawaii is an enemy of I!

I think the description is better reflected in saying the song is written in protest against the USA... the tone of the music is far from one of "anger".
@BigBradduhProduction

Mahalo nui iā ʻoe no kou manaʻo ponoʻī, thanks for your opinion. And I agree, the current tone of the mele is far from an angry one. However, before it was put to such a melody, it was a hula kuʻi. It sounded like a haka. And in Hawaiian mele, it isn't really the melody that sets the tone, but the ʻōlelo and kaona behind it. Nevertheless, mahalo nui for the comment. It really is valuable.

Sudden Rush uses an appropriate tone for the evolution of contemporary "protest" songs; and Kale Gumapac had a good presentation on this issue too...while he performed a rendition of how it was initially created..to be sung. ...facebook.com/BigIslandVideoNews/videos/1501438333228116/
