Coldstarting My Kawasaki KX500 2-Stroke 1990 'Sweet Beast'
FMF Gnarly Header, Pro Circuit R-304 Silencer, VHM Head (DeComp)
Boyesen Rad Valve, Keihin Air Striker 38mm
I took handguards off, later i will put those awesome 'tecnosel' 1990 rad decals back too because this is -90 KX500
It was way too slippery for test ride.. without spikes tires
2-Stroke machine sounds awesome, that sweet big bore idle

Why do people just kick and kick and hope it starts? There's a method to kickstart a 2 stroke. Make sure the piston is in the correct position before you kick!

Its now easier to coldstart because Vhm head and bike is in warm garage.. yep very cold outside

If you can't start it you can't ride it. Starting my cr500 after it's been sitting for six months is always a night mare, I always clean the carb and wind the engine over about 8 to 12 times. your kx sounds awsome

Ive had a couple of these beasts, and they can be a chore to start. I was taught to lay the bike over on its left side until you see that 2 stroke goodness spilling out. Tip it upright, top dead center and let it fly. usually you get a good backfire right before she fires off. It will save you from kicking it so many times..

I see you are from Finland too. Kx500 is nice bike. My favorite is cr500 which i own because it has shorter stroke and it revs up to 9500rpm so it suits really good for supermoto and iceracing. Ktm sx440 is one of my dream bikes. It has power like 500 and it revs just like ktm 250. Crazy bike indeed.

Lean the bike over until fuel comes out of the carb, hopefully it will start easier. Old CR500R trick.

Awesome old school 2 zinger. Bike sounded pretty lean once you finally got it started. Need bigger carb jets when it's cold my man. Would make it much easier to start. Every smoker I've owned always needed a c-hair of throttle while kicking too. Hope the info helps!

My 98 Kawasaki Kx-80 starts 1st kick and it had a horrible gouge in the cylinder it is currently getting bored to 100cc w custom porting and polished and timed powervalve by Eric Gorr racing i can't wait I know the 500cc big bores are a beast of a bike and kicking it over takes some strong leg 🦵 💪 muscle and can bite back if not top dead center

Yep, I burned a hole in a few pistons before learning how to tune the carb. Sometimes need way more fuel especially the main jet

My bikes would do the same thing, trick is to empty the float bowl, it took that long to start because it took that long to empty the float bowl and get fresh gas in there
