Learn how to adjust the valves on a Kawasaki Mule in this video from Partzilla.com. This easy job can help you get the engine on your Kawasaki Mule running smoother. Here are the tools you’ll need:
12mm socket
10mm socket
Extension
Ratchet
Spark plug socket set
Feeler gauges
We’ll start by removing the flywheel cover so that we can set the engine to top dead center. Next, we’ll show you how to remove the rear valve cover on your Mule to access the valves. Then, we’ll show you how to use feeler gauges to check and then adjust the valve clearance on your Kawasaki Mule. Did anyone else feel that they are adjusting the rear valves while on #1? I found other info that indicates #1 is the front head, and this is what I observed when doing it myself.

THANKS TO ALL REPLIES:Today adjusted my mule 3010 which is a 4x4,valve lash and yes your right back cylinder is #2 plus you can’t take the -flywheel cover off the rear driveshaft is in the way even if you remove center u joint strap it still doesn’t give you the enough clearance to remove cover. My last resort was to use a pry bar to bend the plastic on the flywheel cover back after removing the hardware holding it on to find the #1 number and #2numbers then I used a whiteout marker to mark the locations and for reassurance I took a 10”long dowel rod, a screw driver will work as well, stuck it in the spark plug hole and turned the flywheel and watched the rod raise up and stop it as it began to drop back down (TDC) checked my marks and it all lined up for each cylinder after adjustments the mule idles perfectly.THIS VIDEO IS WRONG ,but it created all of you who left replies thanks to all!

Your video is helpful, but the book for this engine says the #1 cylinder is the front and #2 cylinder is the rear. Your video is opposite of the manual. The engine is the same Kaf620. Any additional info would be helpful.

I have a 3000 mule. The spark plugs are very wet. I already checked the carburetor. It's fine, but the same problem continues.

Pretty good video, however you adjusted the # 2 valves while on the # 1 crank mark. You mentioned "top dead center" but the # 2 cylinder is NOT on TDC when the #1 mark is line up on the crank case. Otherwise a well done video partner!

Great Video - Thanks. On my 2002 Kawasaki Mule 3010 I am un able to get the flywheel cover off as the propshaft is in the way and there isn't enough clearance to get the cover out once it's unbolted. Any suggestions?

I have a 2005 mule 3010 and have the same problem. Would like to know also.

I have the same one. Remove the 2 bolts that hold the carrier bearing for the small driveshaft that goes to the front. They are on a crossmember. The driveshaft will now move enough to get the cover off. If it comes out of shaft no big deal.

I was able to pull the plastic back far enough to see the marks, used a pry bar to turn flywheel

Depends on if they are in stock or not. Also, depends on your location.
